      That particular effect is called 'oil painting'. I've seen it as a preset setting in Photoshop, as well as a few other programs. The different sliders allow you to make the 'brush strokes' more broad and the 'oil shine' more pronounced. A really simple effect that makes some unbelievable shots.

    Let's not forget, Odyn was right. The Aspects failed, and the strongest was corrupted. Due to this the rest of the keepers were either slain, and the rest corrupted, or deceived by the old gods in their remote and isolated strongholds.
    If Helya had not cursed him, Odyn and his army would easily have ended the threat of Deathwing, Horde, Scourge, and Legion when they each invaded.
    Instead of merely the Alliance and Horde at the Broken Shore, the might of the Valajar would have crashed against the Legion's Vanguard. An Army comprised of the finest warriors through the millennia.
    The sacrifice of a few, as guides to the dead could very well have been the key to the safety of Azeroth, and the containment to the old gods as well. Since the new Stormforged were not susceptible to the curse of flesh in the Halls of Valor.
    “Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”

    • @ThatGuy4127

      While all that is true, it's probably better for the races of Azeroth that he was locked up. (All lore speculation if he wasn't locked up, not a disagreement towards your comment.)
      He probably wouldn't have been fond of the idea of select groups of the Vrykul, Earthen, and Mechagnomes falling victim to the Curse of Flesh and probably would have ordered the Old God corrupted beings to be purged, preventing the evolution into Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes. (While keeping around the original stone-skinned races that didn't fall to the Curse ofc)
      He probably wouldn't turn a blind eye towards the Highborne using the Well of Eternity for summoning Sargeras and the Legion to Azeroth. And probably would have obliterated the Highborne and surrounding Night Elves to prevent another "attempt" at destroying/corrupting Azeroth, the sleeping World Soul, that the Keepers were created to protect.
      Draenei might have been seen as an invading force or probably ignored once they crash-landed, Not sure.
      Worgen would probably not be around. Depending on how much Odyn and his Valajar armies decimated the Legion during their first invasion. If enough Satyrs survived to cause the War of the Satyr then the NE Druids would probably summon the Worgen as before.
      Not sure if Orcs would have found Azeroth (the planet). Without Medivh to act as a host for Sargeras, and the person on the other side for the Dark Portal spell he casted with Gul'dan.
      *Not to familiar w/ Troll and Tauren lore not sure how they would have been affected :?

    • @AlValentyn
      @AlValentyn 8 років тому +2

      ***** I agree with all of that, as in the end Odyn being free would have resulted in a very "Pure" Azeroth.
      Also trolls and Tauren would most likely have been left alone, or simply observed; as the Titans usually had no issue with evolved lifeforms on their worlds.
      In fact Titan Records even saw Dwarves, Gnomes and Humans as acceptable species resulting from the Curse of Flesh; even if Odyn might or might not have.
      Although we must remember that he actually has no issue accepting Vrykul that have been affected by the Curse of Flesh.
      He even grants them Stormforged bodies if they are truly worthy of it.
      So I would assume he would have done the same to other Titanforged races if he was able to also rescue their souls from the Shadowlands.
      If he was also free, it would also have mostly likely have prevented the death of other keepers such as Ra at the hands of the Mogu.
      Which in turn would have meant the prison complex of Ahn'Qiraj, and others would have not been corrupted and turned into old god cities.
      Even without all the speculation, it is truly sad that Helya had "hijacked" the vast majority of Vrykul souls; as she was supposed to ferry them to the Halls of Valor. Instead enslaving them in Helheim for her bidding.
      I wonder how much greater Odyn's army might have been even now if that didn't happen.
      It will certainly be interesting to see what happens now that Odyn is free. Especially since at the fall of Helya he states he's going to travel to Ulduar since he has long wished to see the other Keepers.
      I wonder how he will react to the fall of Ra, Tyr, and the corruption of Loken. Let alone the destruction of most of their strongholds and facilities. Or the influence and corruption of the OId Gods throughout Azeroth.

    • @aohige
      @aohige 7 років тому +5

      A tyrant with correct foresight is still a tyrant.
      Of course, let's not forget that this was tens of thousands of years ago, and since then Odyn has learned humility and tolerance, while Helya has dived deeper into the depth of hatred beyond redemption.

    • @Aussielight
      @Aussielight 7 років тому +2

      The Keepers being slain or corrupted wasn't the dragon aspects faults. but yes Azeroth couldn't solely rely on the dragon aspects alone (Not to mention Nelfarion's allegiences misguided); but that's why the dragon aspects sought mortal races to assist them in their defence; which lets be honest Odin can't ridicule because he's doing the same now... lol
      The dragon aspects had done much over time though; and if they hadn't been created using the powers of the Pantheon that was granted to them; Azeroth would have many other threats in different forms. (Nozdorumu stopped didn't only stop infinite in the timeline; but also meddling mages, renegade titanforge, and Old God minions / whispers that seemed to slip through time). Plus where was Odyn & his great army when the scourge came a big problem aye? Dragon Aspects were there to help here & there but Odyn was too busy lifting his ego lol.

    • @AlValentyn
      @AlValentyn 7 років тому +2

      Where was Odyn when the Scourge came? He was in the Halls of Valor trapped by Helya...
      The Keepers slacked off because of the Aspects and didn't do their jobs properly anymore.
      Had they not been created ( the aspects ) the Keepers would all still have been very active in the world.
      If Helya didn't curse and trap Odyn, along with leeching off the souls of the dead to build her own army; they would have decimated the Scourge.
      What good is a plague and the undead against an Immortal army or the heavens.
      The only reason Odyn is seeking the aid of the mortals is because the rest of the keepers, and their defences have been broken over the millennia. Something that wouldn't have happened had he not been trapped, and the souls of the fallen taken by Helya; instead of being ferried to the Halls of Valor.

  • @Aequitas_RJ
    @Aequitas_RJ 8 років тому +2

    The problem with the Vrykul is that none of them could see the honor of ferrying souls to paradise.
    They were warriors first and foremost, anything other than swinging an axe into their opponent's face was disgraceful. It amazes me that vrykuls even had mystics, but I guess all cultures need their magic and mysticism.
    Will you guys be continuing this storyline before we return to the kaldorei?

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  8 років тому +1

      I think the need for mystics, sages and storytellers would've come later in Vrykul culture when the curse of Flesh started to take its toll. As time went on, the Vrykul would've likely developed stories for their origins and legends and myths around the Titans. Mystics might've been a culture evolution later on. Its neat to think about!
      And we'll be continuing this general topic before we return to Kaldorei. Night Elves and Suramar will continue later this month, but likely in January closer to the release of Night Hold!

  • @Mojomoud
    @Mojomoud 8 років тому +1

    Are we not getting a continuation on the History of the Kaldorei/War of the Ancients? Or is this just one of the things that's been in the pipeline for a while? Either way keep up the good work.

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  8 років тому +3

      Don't worry! We'll be returning to the War of the Ancients in due time! I decided to shift focus to put the spotlight on Odyn ans the Trial of Valor raid. Suramar and the Climax of the War of the Ancients will be later this month or sometime in January. I really want to focus on Suramar in one of the videos so we're going to return to that chapter close to the Nighthold release.

    Odyn is the same sort of fanatical tyrant as the Prime "Mother of Light" that Illidan destroyed. Odyn betrayed both Hellya and his followers when he forcibly enslaved the unwilling Val'kyr for eternity in order to satisfy his own vision for the HoV. Not exactly my idea of a Good Guy.

      Odyn aggression happened a long time. Its not an 'excuse' but his goals today are still to protect Azeroth, even if his actions were questionable and morally wrong way back when. Almost no Vrykul remember the threat of forced servitude nowadays as its the goal of every single one of them to ascend to the Halls of Valor.

    why is being a Valkyr so bad?

    • @TheLostCodex
      @TheLostCodex  8 років тому

      Its not explicitly stated why but some theories suggest that its because initially, none of the Titanforged Vrykul wanted to abandon their immortal metal-skinned states. Ferrying the souls of the dead wasn't seen as an 'honor' or full of 'glory' as it might be seen by todays Golden Val'kyr. While it gave them immense control over the powers of life and death, being taken from their metal, near-immortal bodies wasn't an ideal plan.
      Something's changed since then with today's Vrykul. Likely more lore to come as Legion progresses!

      Without a doubt, Odyn's actions were selfish and cruel. But what Helya becomes isn't exactly the same Titanforged she once was. As much as Odyn's a complete dick, his overall mission was for the 'good' of Azeroth. I hope we don't kill him, but I do hope the other Keepers call him out for it. Shame Tyr wasn't around :/

      Well, thats what happens when basically your father betrays you and damns you to ferry souls for his plan you highly disagreed with for eternity.

    • @Aussielight
      @Aussielight 7 років тому

      Helya's intentions were once apon a time not evil, but her hatred kept burning & got the better of her... eventually turning Vrykul into Kladvir / dragging their souls into Helheim against there will merely to spite Odyn; she became no better than he. So I suppose you could say they're bad as eachother; but Helya's reasons were for revenge where as Odyn's wasn't... But yeah lol
