Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy the engwe review, just to say if you don’t like reviews then don’t watch or leave negative comments, I’ll just delete them…. I make the thumbnail and title honest so there’s no hidden content, it’s exactly what it says on the tin… Rick
Very comprehensive review Rick. I appreciate the time & effort you put into film this vlog. Don't be shy to do more reviews. As a motorcyclist, I take it for granted that the front brake will be on the right. We will certainly be looking for a electric bike in the future, for the none rider in the partnership......
Thanks 🙏 I do try to “earn” the items I review by at least showing as much as I can (even if it’s not technically perfect) anyone can sit in front of a camera and say it’s great but I’m just trying to show the item as much as I can to help people make an informed decision 👍
I've had my white engine x since October. It's labelled 250w but I think you'll find it peaks at 960w at 19.6 amps. Most of the time it runs between 200-500watts that's according to my power analyser which I've wired in. I've done so much to mine including a second battery working with the battery in the frame via a balancer kit. Total capacity is now 38ah. I've also got engwe's bmx handlebar, a 203mm front rotor, a litepro 56t crankset, a 11/34t 7 speed freewheel, bottle and phone holder and a dinky little bell as well as rear indicators. Also have an extra wide saddle with back rest. Some quick release pannier bags. Some brass bushes for the mid suspension. Great bike but does have some flaws which I've fixed. One being the metal mudguards which can rattle at a certain speed, these have been known to break. I've changed these to plastic ones. The brakes are adequate but really you need hydraulic ones or in my case I changed the 160mm disc for a 203mm with an adapter to relocate the caliper. The mid suspension has no bushes in the centre section meaning you have a stainless steel axle bolt in contact with the aluminium frame. The rear part of the swing arm next to the rack has plastic ones, over time you'll end up with a loose back end. The axle bolts I found were too short not allowing the mid suspension to move so I bought M8 86mm ones with M8 spacers. The folding handlebar stem has been known to snap, it has to deal with a lot of force and I was never happy with mine hence the bmx bar setup which makes it handle better too. If you bought the earlier models they had a shorter brace that goes from the seat post to the folding hinge which was only 3/4 length to it and the same with the weld underneath and a few examples snapped. They later revised it and extended the brace to the hinge and also extended the weld underneath and so far so good. The model you have is the revised one. Don't be put off it's actually well built and I love it's rugged looks and to be honest it's the most comfy bike I've ever ridden.
Wow, a comprehensive list! I’m amazed about the motor then, that’s naughty! Guess I’ll have to keep an eye on the other bits, I’ve developed a rattle from something but it seems to be around the throttle on the handlebars?
@@RickandHeather do check your mudguards and make sure they are tight. The problem with cheap ebikes is they use the generic 'square wave' controller rather than the smoother sine wave and so at a certain speed or power assist it resonates through the bike and the first thing you notice is a rattle. If you were to take the controller out and look at the info on the label it is a 20amp module. 48v x 20 = 960w peak.
@@RickandHeather completely legal because it peaks at a higher power, but sustains at 250, and it's sold and registered as a 250 eu compliant bike, you would never get in trouble for it.
Am going to get this model. Will get the BMX handlebars though as they make the bike much better to ride. (Seems quite a few owners have done the mod and favour it). Great video btw. Best one on YT.
Nice one Rick. Very thorough review and it’s convinced me to get one at some stage Just like the tyres and the off road feel and the robustness of it. Good about the suspension too 👍👍
Ahh bless you! Yes I understand many people get these and don’t really care about using them, I’m not claiming higher ground but I did try to review it honestly. 🙏
Good to see someone who rides bikes reviewing a bike and good you have stuck to a road legal one. I see some many people reviewing bikes we can’t actually use legally in the Uk.
They offered me a non legal one originally and I declined it, I’m not going to preach to anyone but if you’re involved in an accident or get pulled over it comes onto your car license and you can get done for no insurance.
Couple of things to point out. The Engine X has a 750w motor from the old EP2 pro ✅ and controller. It’s just electronically locked to 250w from factory. Still illegal on a technicality.
Hi both, nice review Rick very professional. Am sorely tempted I wonder if dealership do test rides? Just a thought to improve sales perhaps bicycle hire companies could rent them out as a try before you buy. Cheers
I wouldn’t be able to take this on the van if we were going to do a cycling holiday I don’t think, this for me would be ok if we just took it to maybe go to the shop on but I’ve been using it for work. So Poppy stays with the other bikes 😊
The thing about a review of an electric bike by someone who actually rides electric bikes is you know what sort of things to point out. It's good to see a real-world test too. It looks like a good bike but they could've thought of a better name for it.
Yeah I tried to do my usual layman’s spin on it, I know what you mean they do have some odd names these days, not like the Chopper or Grifter! Thanks for watching 🙏

Rick
Don’t normally bother with reviews like these but yours was definitely worth the watch, thank you 👍🏻
Aww thank you 🙏 I appreciate that 👍
Best review I have seen on a electric bike, thank you Rick.
I really appreciate that 🙏 thanks Bob 👍

Fantastic review Rick...!
I enjoyed that 👍
Cheers buddy it was fun to do 👍
Top man great review. Gonna buy one based on your review. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Thank you 🙏 hope you enjoy it I’m still loving mine 👍
Nice thorough review, I must admit I do like it in red!
Red definitely looks better

@simonjohnhinton1938 how do you stand legally then if sold a 250w bike I wonder? I’ll check the mudguards thanks 🙏

Good about the suspension too 👍👍
It really is a great bit of kit!
Excellent review and it shows that you use an electric bike. Thank you. Take care Gill

@Hrossey I can only go on what they tell me on the email and packaging, I actually refused to review the Engine Pro because it wasn’t legal.
@Hrossey The UK police put them on a special M/c and can tell how powerful the motor is then it's scrapped.
@tonyrobinson362 that’s unfortunate if engwe sell as 250w!
The view and video are superb.
Thanks very much for the kind words 🙏

I’m not sure if they have dealerships but if you check all the links below they have a great website etc. thanks for the positive comments 🙏
Mine is coming in 10 days 🎉
Enjoy!
That looked great fun. But …. Where would Poppy sit? 😮
I wouldn’t be able to take this on the van if we were going to do a cycling holiday I don’t think, this for me would be ok if we just took it to maybe go to the shop on but I’ve been using it for work. So Poppy stays with the other bikes 😊
She’d need goggles and a flying helmet when you reach those high speeds 😂
@ChrisHamlet 🤣 definitely
Niceview This is a really cool video.👍
Thanks appreciate it, it’s a great bike.
Looks like my Mi rider on steroids😂. Need to be fairly fit to be lifting that in and out of a car but looks like great fun/scarey!!!
You’re right on all counts Ruth, although I’m not fit 🤣
which one is better according to you: this one(X) or L20?
As a male I prefer the X although I prefer the handlebars on the L20, both are similar rides, X wins for comfort in my opinion
Hi I got mine, have you ridden in the rain? Is it waterproof
Yes I’ve ridden in all weather and I’ve jet washed the mud off, all seems ok.
Can the throttle be activated and can speed restrictions be unlocked? Il be doing a lot of off road
It can, there are loads of videos on UA-cam showing how. It still makes it illegal if you do tho…
Think I'll wait until they get lighter or until I get the chance to win one🤔🤔😎 Cheers K.
Or they come with phone holder?
Hi is this Engine x torque driven or cadence?
Cadence on this one

Called it Engwe Dave if you prefer. It’s a metal bicycle, not a newborn baby.
Problem solved.
Enjoy riding Dave, Cathryn 😉✅
@Hrossey Rodney not Dave.
I'm afraid I just don't like the giraffe style handlebar stem
It’s very comfortable but not very good looking!
The engwe 275pro is alot better although entirely different.
15.5 mph, its slower than a child's bike, load of old crap mate...but hey, you can go as fast as you like down hill 😂😂😂
15.5mph is the legal limit the motor cuts out on any complaint e-bike they obviously go faster but not assisted
