Maybe put a layer of that ceramic heat reflecting window tint on the chrome ? I would say a white cloth over it but we both know that will cause glare on the windshield . That should definitely help though ,, maybe even wire in a fan and force air onto the heatsink like an amp ?

Both are great ideas. That ceramic heat reflecting window tint is pretty genius.

Once in a while I think of something pretty helpful ! We had my wife’s new Camry tinted when we bought last year the day we picked it up at a local shop my buddy owns . (If you don’t do it day 1 and just cough up the cash you’ll never do it lol) The demonstration on display of ceramic tint vs regular tint is like night and day as far as the heat reflected versus the heat that gets through. You could try that , plus maybe mount a 5x5 (inch) fan dead center of the lid , mounted on some 1/2 inch rubber grommets , to raise the fan off the lid and blow air on it constantly during the hot months , and when not in use, and not driving (parked in parking lot) cover it with a white towel and leave the windows cracked to let that 130 degree air out !! . I see guys here do that , it’s brutal here as well in the summer months , especially when your car is parked and the sun is trying to murder your dashboard. Just a few ideas floating around in my head . The heat sink will definitely help , I’m just thinking about the shiny glare on the windshield driving around . But heat is definitely an enemy of radio parts under the lid . That’s a really nice radio by the way ! If you ever want to try the window tint idea plus a fan on the lid , here is an extra “let’s really get crazy” idea to get some cool air to the fan or the radios general area , or for a mobile amps heatsink area

That's what she said. Any thought that it will add heat to the radio if you have really bright sun shinning on it thru the windshield?

@Bluescout612 you know... that's exactly what I thought. Hah. TBH I just try crap and wait for all the comments. Some are just insults and I try to delete em. Some are helpful and I will usually make a follow up video with their suggestion. But so far it hasn't been acting up in direct sunlight. I will definitely give updated feedback with the next video. Many thanks for the question.

@@GiantSequoiaNation I save all the heat sinks from computers and other electronic things I throw away and finally had a use for one and actually had one that was a perfect size. I was installing my FT-818 in a case and was worried about heat went thru my bin and found one that fit the heat sink tab on the radio little heat sink paste and have had no issues

@Bluescout612 Finally! Right? Finally found a use for that heat sink. I would have put it underneath but it's a bottom firing speaker too.
