Hey John! Thanks so much. Glad to be of help. As usual I recommend you the rest of my UA-cam videos dealing with Indian music and slide guitar. Recently I published one showing how to play a melody in Raga Bhairavi. By the way, this guitar tuning works really well with all of my educational material in the subject. www.fernandoperezguitar.com
Glad you like it. Now we can all play Indian music on guitar in an easy way. Don’t forget you can find more videos and books in my website to learn Indian music and other World Music styles. Cheers! www.fernandoperezguitar.com
Hi Rod, thank you for taking the time to comment. Glad to hear you are exploring Indian music on the guitar. Feel free to let me know how it goes and if you have any questions I will be happy to help. Usually I use a Guitar Forum I have on my website so whatever information we contribute with it becomes available there for other players. If you prefer to communicate more privately you can always write to my email also available on the website. And in case you didn't notice I do have other videos in UA-cam dealing with playing Indian music on guitar so you can find more information. In my website you can also find educational material on the subject. www.fernandoperezguitar.com Enjoy your guitar explorations! 🙂
@@FernandoPerezGuitar Sorry for delay. I didn't get notified. Thank you very much for that Fernando, much appreciated. I do like the unique instrumentation and approach in Indian music. And you show it can really sound alike on the guitar. Played so well.. I am a senior and have some difficulty with some chord patterns etc. But there is not having to hold chordal finger patterns, so I also find I can do it much better. I will check your site. One question, the low C string is looser than E. Does a different grade of string help? Or does it matter? 🙏
@@AwareLife Hey Rod! You can lower your sixth string to C without any problem using the normal 6th string you have for standard tuning. So no need to change gauge. If you are having difficulties playing chords or other type of positions on the guitar it must be because of your technique and compensations (bad habits or just simply never having learnt proper technique). Being a senior would not make a big difference depending on your health condition. It looks like more uphill but that is not the reality. I would recommend you to check out a video series I have on my website and called "The Guitarist's Hands". fernandoperezguitar.com/product/809500 I am very positive that it will help you a lot with a very little effort from your side. You see, everything begins with having the right information. When we train playing guitar is not so much about biomechanics, it is about training the driver which is the brain. And the only important thing for a healthy brain to have is the proper information about how to do things. Then a little practice with some mindfulness is just enough to progress very rapidly.
@@FernandoPerezGuitar Thank you again Fernando. It is partly due to a slight kink in my middle fingers pointing towards each other. You are right about information and the brain. I'll check the vid, thank you.
That was made by a friend of mine. We made a mohan veena on the body of a fine classical Spanish guitar in order to improve the quality. He is retired now.
Hola!
Sir🙏Namaste. What would be it's price. Where can i purchase it. All My fingers are a little bit short. So i need to wear caps to my left hand 4 fingers as I am learning Mandilin and also yet to learn Guitar. Kindly let me know where can I purchase the same Guitar you have played also the caps for all the 4 fingers of left. Hope you will kindly let me know the details. Your demo is excellent and so melodious.
The trouble with these sorts of tunings in that you really need an "extra" guitar to accommodate the tuning. Which is a bit off putting. For example, on any guitar that I've got, I couldn't possibly tune the second string to D without snapping the string. Fernando, what's your solution to this? BTW, if the guitar was tuned to DADGAD ( ir something similar) would the the 5th of D ( A on the second string ) act as an acceptable drone note?
Hey! Well, first of all the Indian slide tuning is (6th to 1st) CGCGCC so there is no D on any string. Also being a C type of tuning you lose tension so no string will snap. DADGAD tuning could work but only for certain ragas, a very limited number, so it might do the trick for one song but not in general to try different ragas. The tunings I chose are very friendly for any type of guitar so even if you use one it is not time consuming or difficult to switch tunings on the spot. Even during a concert. I do that all the time. Having several guitars with different tunings etc is cool but eventually you get tired of caring so many instruments. And there is also the fact of keeping your focus when you play the whole concert on the same guitar. There are many different ways to go. And every player has its ideal solution. It is a matter of gathering the information so you can choose what’s is best for you at any given moment.
Hi Fernando, your playing sounded great, I think it was raag kafi ? Thanks for sharing the tuning, its a great idea and does a nice job of simulating the chikari strings. Have you thought about placing a small bridge under the b string string perhaps, possibly at the 12th fret? I sometimes tune in open C, with the A string's 4th fret harmonic tuned to Sa. This makes the open A string a just tuned komal dha. I learnt it from W.A Mathieu book Harmonic Experience.
Hi Bhai, yes I tried what you mentioned but it is not very practical. My idea is to get as close as possible to play the music without charging too many things. Leaning more on the actual ornaments of the style and less on the sonority only. I noticed how many trying they go more for the sound but by then their playing is too Western. So I rather not have tarab or chikari strings but good phrasing. And if I want to have it all I go and pick up my real Indian guitar (Mohan Veena). However, my dream is to just have a normal standard guitar and be able to play it all without losing the authenticity of its origins. Life should be simple. 😉 In addition, Indian music will spread more in the West if people could play it in their own instruments. 🙂
Yes, that is the tuning. However, there is more to it. In order to play Indian music it is important to know what is the function of the notes in the tuning, among other details. Also, if you are playing nylon strings guitar you might want to use the same tuning one step higher DADADD so you get a better tension for the slide. You can watch other videos in my channel explaining these details. And find even more resources on my website: www.fernandoperezguitar.com Namashkar! 🙂

Hi,
I don’t understand your question. You are asking for the price for what exactly?
Where is Middle C in guitar, as we have in Piano?
In this tuning you will find it in the fourth string however remember that the guitar is a transposing instrument.
