I've been using Stans notube sealant in my mtb tube, it's been about 14 months from when I first put it in, it's still sloshing around, had some thorns so still working good. I did read the instructions and they give it 2-7 months. Filled with the recommended amount.
I'm on road tubeless and have always checked sealant levels by shaking the wheel or using a dipstick through the presta valve. I recently tried popping a small part of the bead, but the tyre had stuck itself to the rim, so both tyre and rim tape pulled away from the rim, thus ruining the seal. Meant I had to take it all apart and re install, with fresh tape and sealant. I'm pretty sure I did a good job of installing that rim tape in the first place. Makes me wonder about the idea that you can always put a tube in at the roadside in an emergency.
Do you start and finish the rim tape either side of the valve (to hold it in place) I think it can depend in tape and sealant combination. I always add more sealant via removing the tyre (to stop the valve blocking) and never had an issue.
@@travers_bikes hi yes, always start and end past the valve, and made sure the rim was clean and warm. Could be the tape (Orange Seal) perhaps, or fact it was double wrapped. Another possibility is the Pirelli Cinturato velo 28s suggest a rim no wider than 19mm internally, whilst mine are 20mm. Doesn't seem much, but they do have a tendancy to break away from the rim hook if fully deflated.

It varies a lot with the weather conditions, temperature of where you store the bike and how porous the tyres are.
Did you loot at the sealant or only listen for it? Old sealant turns clear
I change mine every 6-9 months depending on the temperature
I add sealant once a year before summer starts. Never had a problem.
What sealant are you using?
@@travers_bikes Stan’s
That’s strange as I find Stans dries out quicker than most brands
@@travers_bikes I have an FS MTB and a gravel. I use Stans on both.
Great if that works for you

Some times the sealant can gum up when the bike is left and the sealant is pooled in one place.
I have to add sealant on the monthly.
What brand sealant are you using? What tyres and do you live in a hot environment?
Nice bobble hat!
And combined with the T-shirt too!
Silca doesn't last 3-4 months, maybe 2 months at best.
I guess it depends on temperature, amount you use and how porous your tyres are but I have no issues getting 4 months from the sealant
@@travers_bikesmaybe, 45 Days totally dry.

And the tubeless version or tubeless ready?
