Excellent tutorial..... I've been doing it the hard way, re-recording an entire section of the vocal. Was aware of punch just didn't take the time to look into it.....This made it easy....
Although I have been using Cakewalk, in all its various permutations, for decades I still value good tutorials about the app. I've subscribed for that reason. Two other equally good sources are Creative Sauce and the Home Studio Simplified channels. I don't know if it is up your alley but I mostly record with VST plugins. One area that I've found tricky and confusing, although I ultimately figured it out, is entering synth patch changes to tracks to change the timbre, as opposed to just using multiple instances of the same synth on different tracks and just having a fixed patch for each track.
I needed a quick reminder on punching. This is a perfect video. Thanks. Like many, I've been using Cakewalk since the beginning. I am now a subscriber.
Hi, I have a Roland Hpd 20 Handsonic(which has its own 800 sounds) which I would like to record as MIDI data(as it is convenient to edit) in my daw(cakewalk or studio one), how do I let the computer know to record the signal as midi and not audio signal? Thank you. I appreciate it.
You can change recording method by hovering over the record button under the control bar and pressing on the wedge in the lower corner. No need to use preferences.
video starts at 2:50. I understand sometimes people want to do a little intro to summarize but if that takes up half the video, it's too long. Remember teachers, less is more especially when it comes to us ADD types. From this video it appears that you can only do punch in for audio when the audio has silence before and after it. Is that the case? Also, it appears that you can only do one punch in (1 set of brackets) at a time. Is that the case? I gave it a like in hopes that the sorcerer streamlines their approach in the future.
Alan, all my videos have chapters in them so you can go to the part of the video you want to. Some people want to hear me talk and some don't. For the ones that don't they just use the chapters. It's a very simple process. Regarding the punch process, whether you have space before or after, depends on how you are going to edit the file. Digital editing is non-destructive so you can always pull back the waveform. Back in the analog days you needed to have space before and after for punch points because they would override previous recordings. Hope that helps.
It might have been good to show folks how to set the metronome and the count in. It took me a while to figure that one out. Also turn off the loop points before trying to render out any audio. Can't tell you how many times i sat trying to figure our why my exports were seconds long
@@AudioSorcerer I hear you. I remember how proud I was for remembering how to do the loop punch. But then I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't engage a new track to record on. Fucking did my head in and freaked out a bit thinking I broke something. Now just at the end of another track the punch points were still enabled else where.
Good content and you are clear in presentation. But content didn't start until :43 seconds in. I prefer sooner. FALSE ALARM: You described punch in recording with nothing happening on screen. Content doesn't start till 2:22 in!

@@AudioSorcerer My old Tascam 32 did pretty clean punches, didn't notice much of an override on that.
Is it possible to get several punch regions on the same track?
In reaper if you delete a section it still keeps for smoother transitions...does cakewalk do this? Thanks!
What do you mean?
