Flatbread with butter, potatoes, small pieces of fermented herring, spread over the flatbread with chopped red onion, sour cream or light crème fraiche. Make a squeeze or roll of it and eat it and we eat it in Sweden with beer and flavored spirits, some tips are Skåne's Acvavit, Halland's Elderflower or Gameldags' Norrlands Acvavit. There were some flavored spirits from Sweden that we usually have with it.
As a 53 year old Swede I can state that there is in no way a whole country that appreciates this, only old mad people like my dad. 😂
And me, a 23 year old mad man from Södermanland
I love Surströmming, tho the fish in that can looked abit rancid (It´s normally looking better I mean).
I haven't started the video yet but when I saw the thumbnail I guarantee my neighbors heard me say ohh no🤣Good luck Brian, hope to see you on the other side.
Just to let you know - I might be a Dane - however I know A LOT of Swedish people - and FAR from everyone enjoys this! If you want a much more "mainstream" version of this - try "pickled herring" with onion and mayo/currysalad... especially if you get some snaps or spiced spirits with it and a beer. In fact many of us eat that around Xmas time and I know here in Denmark it's not a real "Xmas party" if it doesn't have at least 3 different types of pickled herring (breaded, Fried and pickled is my personal favorite).... Surströmming however is a much more polarizing version - and most people would never chose to eat it unless it's a "challenge" or something! The only way I eat it willingly is if it's applied much more as a condiment than a main ingredient - so a TINY amount!
This is where I thought they were going when they said they were gonna do it the "proper" way. Though I'm more familiar with onion and pickle along with the pickled herring which is the Dutch way so I'm told.
Yes yes yes I’ve been waiting FOREVER for this video! The first one was so unbelievably funny!
LOVE IT keep up the good work I have been watching you and Andy for so long love yall!
Try it with thin bread, butter on the bread, potatos, surströming and then raw onion in chopped
Have to do this myself. I consider myself a guy that can eat anything and so far there has not been a food that proves me wrong. Gonna go solo-camping in forest and bring this with me (costs a nice buck here in Latvia). Probably won't have with boiled, but campfire baked potatoes, but should be fun experience. And I am totally bringing sour-cream (Andy is onto something). 🔥
Major gains since last time 🤣 Well done dudes!
Sometimes it takes more than 1 try to defeat the boss level. You guys got the job done!
My Swedish husband would never in a million years eat it, so I don’t know how many Swedes do eat it. I know there are those that love it, but it’s not mainstream for sure.❤️ nice of you to try.
Whereas everything about surströmming is the aroma that is the killer, in lutefisk it is the texture for me. It's like fish jello. I can't do it and I love fish! So much for that bit of Norge blood in me.😂
I prefer surstromm over lutefisk any day.
I love when Andy is here from HOW TO OPEN A DOOR.
You guys are way braver then I am. I'd be divorced and living in the can of I ever brought that around. Love the content man and the hot sauce
Shoulda put hot sauce on it
Love hearing that little gigglebox Alex behind the camera.
The first video is still legendary 😆🤣
Hahaha 😆 man I almost 🤣 threw up just watching this
Like... you need to understand this: The more the can bulges, the older the fish and the stronger (most would say "more terrible") the taste. You can see the can you opened, the fish had started to disintegrate badly. Do the baby step way and get a fresh can (yes, I know it's not "fresh," but "just released" - the surströmming season starts the third thursday of August.) Also, don't get the whole fish, get the filet can.
You need to counteract/balance the taste with chopped red onions and other condiments, eating it like that with just a potato on a cracker, of course you'll hate it. And yeah you _do_ need the sour cream, but if Brian really can't take it, go with some potato salad. If you really want to, I could send you a fresh can in August along with detailed instructions.
Hey dude from norway here next time try Rakfisk it is similar in taste as surstøming and eaten with sourcream and onions and flat bread way milder aroma so you can actualy enjoy the flavor only downside is that you can only get it around x.mas unless you make it yourself
Guys your still doing it wrong. You need boiled potatoes, chopped onion, flatbread (similar to wheat tortilla), sour cream, butter and dill. Gut the fish, slice potato and mix with the rest on the flatbread.
We have that every Christmas- love the smell and taste. Just eat it out of the can. Then slurp up the lovely juice! Haha jk
None of that seems like it would make it any better.
Brian 'Link Neal' Ambs haha
I remember this and five years is a wild number.
Just leaves the bowl of stinky fish on the ground 3:01 “hopefully the world takes care of it for the next 30 minutes”😂 seriously guys I laughed so many times at this video 🔥
oh shit here we go again good luck guys
Next time. Find a swede that can help you. You don't need sour cream. Potato salad works just fine and few drops of lemon with onions and this is just fine.
The smell is much worse then the taste. I actually really like it. I have had a few times and actually have a video of me having it. Great video
am i the only one that actually like the smell? love seeing you guys, keep up the good work :)
Good job getting that stuff down lol!
I would love to see someone from Sweden watch your attempt at this. 🤣
You need to do it again with the dill.
There's also a video of some guys drinking purple passion and then eating this. It didn't end well. LOL
luv this video 😂😂
Legends!!
Mind over matter that looked awful I couldn’t do that but I would try if I had some make sure you guys brush your breath really good by the look of it looked bad and and such you guys are brave
As many times I've seen this challenge, why has no one beaten it.
All that effort for a couple grams of ingested smelly fish on a soda cracker? I was expecting you guys to eat the whole can…and see the both of you blowing chunks! 🤣😆
If You are interested I might be filming my experience and if this comment will get enough likes I could publish in my empty channel as I will consider challenge done only after eating whole can 😂
Alex! How dare you be filming and not get in on this action?! I heard you laughing behind the camera!
I crushed it
It’s a ritual in surstromming challenges to break a can opener lmao
I have had this with a Swedish family from sweeden, and the son wouldn't even stay in the house when we tried it. So dont worry.
Just use moore water 😂
"Smell my hand!" -Brian Ambs 2024
Well you diluted the saltiness.
Someone SEND ME a can! :)
Not a chance in hell that I would ever try this
This 7:50 is why im not a fan of sushi, lol
You're actually not supposed to eat strömming (the fish) anymore because it's endangered due to overfishing.
Okay first that was absolutely disgusting🤢 Second I love Andrew's Toast of toaster shirt.
All you had to do was put some Reaper Squeezins on it.
😂
That's gotta be awful!
It's delicious with malt vinegar and red skin potatos
Under 1 hour gang👇
A swelling can is a sign of botulism. Be careful with that.
Wear your Gallagher plastic sheeting.
You 100% should not be eating anything in a can where the lid is bulging like that. That's how you get botulism
That's the thing surstromming...read up on it 😂
@@angelkisses5933 Oh. My. God. That is vile lol
@@digital_badger It's left to ferment in the tin for a good few months 😅 x
@@angelkisses5933 Yea, Wikipedia enlightened me. Sounds gross haha
WHO WATCHES H3 and knows about this?
🤘🤢❤️🔥🤮🤙
Sorry my guy but I’ll never eat that stuff ever. I’ll eat anything that’s super spicy unless it deals with fish
HAHAHAHAHA im from Sweden :D
Brother, your way to unnecesarily apologetic 😂
People in Sweden dont even eat this like that anymore being it isnt the 1800s/early 1900s anymore. Yall sound crazy lmao
Take two an even more pittiful attenpt. Take an actual bite.. lol
A touch dramatic 😐
It seems like you guys kinda half assed it again lol
😂
