It seems like we'll need to revisit this album. I just found out there's a Born to Die: The Paradise Edition with 9 additional songs, including the 3 from the deluxe version. Y’all ready ?

the fact that this album bombed critically when it came out and is now considered a modern classic is proof of how ahead of the trends lana has always been.

It’s crazy to think that despite being literally HATED by critics at the time, it is one of ONLY TWO albums by a woman to chart in the BB200 for over 550 WEEKS! Almost 11 whole years, and now those same critics either revised their criticism (which was more about lana than the actual music) or pretend they thought it was a modern classic all along. It really shows that critics dont know wtf they’re talking about half the time lol

Fell in love with the song Carmen in 2012; it sounded like nothing else I had ever listened to. No idea it was Lana until this year when I finally listened to BTD fully. Hadn't heard that song in about 10 years, it unlocked some memories. Groundbreaking album - love Off to the Races & Blue Jeans

New subscriber here! Maybe you'll need some context of lana life and facts about the songs:
Lana had alcohol addiction at a really young age. At 14 her mother sent her to a boarding school to get sober but never let her come back home after that, and at 16 sent her to Spain. At 18 she was able to go back to USA and went to NY to live with her uncle. Since then she had yo struggle with a lot of things, no money, no job, to live and get to where she wanted. She had a very hard life, and even get wrapped in a culte in NY (she finnaly got out of there). Many of her songs are not actually about love relationship with a partner, but also relations with alcohol, drugs, friends, family, fame, paparrazi. Keeping that in mind, you'll find the meaning of her songs. On this first album and by that time, she was seeking fame and notorius, but things will change and she'll reflect that in her albums and videos.
About the songs of this album:
    - Diet Montain Dew: her relationship with alcohol. She said this was her first real love. "You're no good for me, but baby I want you".
    - Dark Paradise: about a bf who died. She struggled a lot with wanting to end herself. "I wish I was dead, dead like you". Nobody's really sure about who is she talking about, as she had some of them who had a sad end. The first we know, Aaron Green, died due to a car accident. He was from her hometown (Lake Placid), and Summertime Sadness could also be about him (the visuals of the video match with that). People only knew about this after she explained it in her last album, Ocean Blvd. It could also be about a bf who died due to heroin overdose at a New Years Eve, or another one who ended up in jail (Blue Jeans), was released and commited homicide, and was sentenced to death row (her unreleased song "For K part 1").
    - Carmen: story of herself. Carmen can be seen as drugs "the boys, the girls, they all like carmen".
    - Million Dollar Man: it is said that its about a bf who went into illegal things related with technology. He earned a lot of money but then lost everything and she "went down" with him. Note that she says "why is my heart BROKE" not broken. Shes a genius.
    - This is what makes us girls: story of her teenage years, and how she got sent away after all the trouble, and how she never had real friends after that.
Laaarge comment, but gope this can help!

Anyone who reacts well to Lana's music deserves a like. The sound of her songs are spectacular, her voice is unique and Born to Die is a magnificent album from start to finish. Just a piece of advice, I know it's inevitable but don't put which song is above another, I know we all do it. But if you listened to their songs often, one week would be your favorite and the next another, but the previous one would not be said to be one step lower. just enjoy

woooo lanaaa!!! cultural resetttt album. born to die is all ab themes of escapism to cope with issues, finding consolation/happiness within other people, and living for freedom. born to die is like "yolo" but also that her relationship was toxic and doomed to fail from the start of it, it was literally "born to die". off to the races is myy all time fav lana song, the voice inflections, the storytelling, beat, flow, the BRIDGE!! video games is a timeless love song, it blew her up along with summertime sadness and it has neverr gotten old no matter how much i listen to it. dark paradise is v sad actually, about an ex who died and she's longing for him, wants to be with him on the other side. she uses cinnamon a lot and says "sweet like cinnamon" which is interesting bc cinnamon isn't sweet but actually quite bitter, so it's like an alternate meaning. carmen is ab Lana's own alcohol addiction from a young age, which is also very sad, she got sent to a boarding school during her childhood due to these issues, shes been sober now for over a decade though!! million dollar live performances r a must seee hope u can react to those too, in her live performances she changes up the way she sings everytime, which keeps it rlly interesting. i always loved the line "this is what makes us girls, we don't stick together cuz we put love first" in this is what makes us girls, its so true and so sad. i cannot wait for paradise reaction and ultraviolence reaction!!! i rlly like the describing words u use for each song they're really on point.

the fact that she does have a music video for most of these songs but they're homemade and very simple and uploaded in the most obscure parts of youtube on fake accounts is hilarious to me lol the only high budget ones are born to die, blue jeans and national anthem

She created the "vintage" of the 21st century... in 20 or 30 years or so, people will actually see her as the "gangster Nancy Sinatra", they'll probably call it Hiphop meets Ancient glamour music 😂
