OMG what a spectacular view at the end there!! Both day and night views. Love you guys so much for sharing more of your lives with us. We are truly touched by this gesture. Love how proud Hoon's grandma is of her garden. Wish I could taste what you were eating. I'm also so glad that Hoon met his relatives after having overcome the injury and the infection that followed to the extent that he didn't need his walking stick/aid anymore. May you have many many such happy and healthy reunions with your family for many Chuseoks to come. And Waany is so adorable - he seems to love the camera. And say Hi to Seo Hyun for us. I wish her all the best for her studies and hope to see her in some Kdrama in the future. Min's nephew Siwoo is an absolute darling. The part where he was sitting in front of all the ceremonial offerings with Halmoni is so reminiscent of our Indian culture where children learn from their grandparents by observing these traditions with them. I must add that Siwoo is a sweetheart and an angel who is just content playing around with his wooden spoon (I think I saw him very sweetly trying to feed Halmoni with his spoon at one point ) while I know of some babies his age who would turn everything upside down in the blink of an eye. By the time they are done, the scene would look like some sort of a tornado has passed by. So I repeat Siwoo is an angel and God bless him and all of you with health, happiness and prosperity.
It’s heartwarming to see how beautifully you guys are connected to your roots in this 21st century! Talks values about schooling and upbringing! Loads to love to your nephew Min and your pup Hoon!
Hoon and Min looks so innocent and cute but the baby and the dog were more cute 😘😘😘. Love u guys. Glad to see the culture of Korea and more colours of there. ..
In India *Sharad* is coming....they always fall during this period. During *Shraads* we also perform ancestral rites at home and make food which is loved by our ancestors. This shows how similar our cultures are. Thank God you guys didn't faced Abrahamic invasions unlike India.
This is extremely similar to Hindu ancestral rites as well. The fact that ancestral rites are celebrated in both cultures is itself amazing but more surprising is that both of them start on exactly the same dates every year. Also we do the same- set a table, place our Ancestor's photos, cook amazing delicacies, serve them to the ancestors and pray. Actually it makes sense that both fall on same dates since both are supposed to be celebrated during the harvesting period of the year but I wanted to understand why is that both the cultures engage in ancestral worship. So I did a little research and it seems that it travelled through Buddhism and Confucianism as both these religions were inspired by Hinduism, also the reason why the three are considered the most peaceful and tolerant religions in the world (the strong similarities) However Buddhism itself does not originally and essentially require ancestral worship while Confucianism strongly does. The thing is that over the years, despite of the religious composition of South Korea being changed continuously , the practice still exists since it is no more a strictly religious thing but more of a cultural thing. The religions mainly helped in introducing practices while the culture chose to retain them independent of the religion. It was great learning about the strong and beautiful influences the two cultures have had. I hope both of you and your families had a great time during Chuseok. May God bless you all.
Sorry to interrupt but Buddhism also believe in ancestral worship. We keep a ritual every year in the memory of them. Even we believe life after death. All this can be only found in the holy book of Buddhists 😊
@@alokitaverma5613 yes dear Buddhists do engage in an ancestral worship but not because it is an obligatory service proposed by Buddhism as I have already said in previous comment. There are mainly three prime events other than various other influences that resulted into this- 1.) Buddhist texts include the word 'Sraddha' from Hindu vedas. However there is a difference of usage in both. In Hinduism, it is an extremely elaborate term for faith and ancestral veneration while in Buddhism it was only adopted for the faith part. This is because Buddhism strongly believes in reincarnation and the idea of ancestral veneration contradicts it. But with time, the confusion regarding the word has led to accommodation of ancestral veneration whenever a need was recognised; not because Buddhist texts suggest that. 2.) Buddhism faced extreme criticism and dangers to its existence in 3rd - 5th century especially in China under Chinese rulers where Confucianism prevailed. Hence from the various questions asked, one was on existence of no form of filial piety which was extremely important to Confucianism. Hence in response Buddhist Monastics translated buddhist texts which were influenced by the Hindu idea of filiality to show the similarities with Confucianism and safeguard their existence. After this, during 6th century, after numerous stories of sacrifice to one's parents, Buddhism incorporated a much formal form of filial piety including provisions for even after death of parents. Filial piety is not exactly the same as ancestral rites and you can find texts for this although it was much later incorporated. 3.) Countries like Vietnam already had a strong cultural belief in ancestral veneration and for Buddhism to be acceptable, ancestral veneration was not seen something alien and provisions were made for the justification of the same by the monks. All in all, the aspect of Ancestral veneration in Buddhism is not 'Buddhist' essentially but is a result of cross-cultural diffusions Buddhism experienced while trying to become more acceptable and safeguard it's existence. Hence it's more of a culturally introduced thing & not exactly an originally religious phenomenon. Since Buddhism has evolved into various forms aka several Buddhisms today, it will be extremely difficult to determine what was the most original and true-most idea behind ancestral worship in Buddhism (what we only know for sure is that it was contradictory to the tenets of Buddhism originally) except for the newer incorporated ideas that we can find much easily. Also as I am no expert on Buddhism, I won't strictly attest to everything but I had already studied and researched all of it when I was studying origins and evolution of various religions a little while ago and this video made me express a part of what I had learnt. You can find most of it on internet not all though (you need to look for texts, books and other souces) and there will be a little struggle but you will find it worth your time.

Is Chuseok a one day event or festival ? Here in India Pitrapaksh started from 14th September and will continue till 29th September. During these periods we also prepare our forefathers' favourite meals. Conduct a small prayer and offer their soul their favourite foods. A portion of their food is kept outside for the crows to eat. Btw the day when pitrapaksh will conclude is the day when Navratri literally meaning "Nine Nights" will begin dedicated to Nine Goddesses. And the 10the day would be Dusshera. One of the many majorly celebrated festivals.
It's soo similar, exactly same as Kerala style thanksgiving ceremony. In Kerala we call daaham vaykkal,in this time we prepare bellitharppan for recently passed relative. And for ancestors we prepare the traditional food, clothes for their interests, water for washing hands and feet and also for the God...especially Ganesha because he's vignhatha,he helps to remove any problems or any misfortune... Thx for uploading this video guy's...I appreciate your efforts...keep going... waiting for new stuff...n yaa. In India we celebrate harvest festival...in northern India as " Baisakhi" and in south India..as "onam".
That was interesting video, happy to learn about korean thanksgiving day, chuseok. Charye is so similar to shraddh we have, where we remember our ancestors, and offer food for them. Good to learn your culture.
Plz make video on vegetarian food available in south korea
Here vegetarian means no egg,no fish,no meat
And sometimes no onions also!!!!
