The physics of ASR car's are wrong. EG CG of MP4/6 has CG of 0.327 in reality was closer to 0.40, the Aero Balance is too much on the front. If you place wings at 20/20 it gives you balance of 0.25, which means only 25% of weight of car is on the front. These car's probably did range of 34 to 40, optimal was probably 39% at low speed and at full speed it drops to 36%. The Drag isn't enough, too much diffuser downforce, wings don't have correct drag of lift ratio's and the tyre's don't have enough grip. If you want more force feed back EDIT [CONTROLS] FFMULT=1.7 change to 2.7 or higher to get more. Its in the car.ini Look at Tyrell papers of their car's, it gives accurate physics of F1 car's at the time.
I wouldn't say they are wrong but a little bit off sometimes. The thing about the wings is that they generally produce way to much Downforce in my opinion so i've never driven at a track where you could really use 20/20. Also they don't drive well with the basic setup so u have to invest time for each and every track to make a setup before beeing able to be competitive. But as mentioned in another comment they have a steering assist option in the tuning menu so you can adjust ffb. I personally think the ffb feels great on them. But i don't understand why you say the tyres don't have enough grip. Maybe they don't because it has to do with the setup problem above? Suspension is way to stiff ,both front and rear and if you soften it (especially at the front) you get much better grip overall. But nonetheless they are lots of fun to drive. Bet there's no better f1 1991 mod for free so i don't really care about these little things here and there. Also they got updated a few times since i've driven them the first time and they got better with every update. Edit: oh and i think the thing about the drag you mentioned has been fixed
Hey Timo, I now have Automobilista 2, rFactor2 and this AC F1 mod. I gotta say this definitely feels and drives the best. It's pretty amazing. Thanks to all your videos, they've been very helpful. This mod is just amazingly good.
Great review! Really nicely structured! It's funny about the FFB... I'm not on a DD wheel and all that "extra surface detail" that you mention only translates into "noise" on my wheel. And the last thing you want in a Formula 1 car is mushy noise as opposed to accurate split second information through your steering wheel without any distractions. It's one of the reasons I prefer the ASR cars to the RSS 1990 car personally. That and the full grid non fictional cars and the noise of course. The nooOOOOOOOO iiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIII seeeeEEEEEEEEEE ! :D Could be a standalone game this mod with some serious work and polish put into it. Dream come true!
I don’t know if you know, but rFactor 1 with the 1991 SR Historic mod also contain quality sounds. It may be already a 16 year old sim but it still holds up until today with some shaders and maximum settings. Even up to date with current F1 cars of 2022. With some major tweaks you do, you can get the maximum out of the sim
Really nice presentation, Timo! Since first quality classic F1 season mods were available for rF1 and GTR2 I've raced those immensely, so simracing authentic unique team modelling of different physics, driving model, and especially sound is nothing particular new to me. And now for many years ASR's F643 AC mod too, but still miss trying out AC full season grid, so thanks for the tip! I'd like to see AC and AMS2 full transformations (and not just more or less 1:1 conversions as seen for rF2) for especially these 4 high quality mods of which I've driven in all my simrig gear during so many years: rF1 F1SR F1 1991 Historic rF1 F1 1991 LE v. 3.0 rF1 F1 1987 HE by PureF1 Modding Team GTR2 F1 1985 FIA Mod by MasterBlaster Newer generations, never having experienced the golden years in 80ies and start 90ies surely deserves racing this high quality immersion of authenticity in today's sim engines
Thanks. I was aware that other/older sims also supported classic F1 mods, however, I did not / do not play them. And yes, the graphics have definitely evolved quicker than the AI or game features. It is impressive what old sims like GP Legends, GTR etc. already had to offer.
Timo, what do you think about doing a review of the F90 carset from Raceroom? The sense of g forces from accelerating and decelerating make that a favorite of mine.
only things missing thats should come with a that mod (or other ASR F1 mods) are setups, i mean at least one hi dwonforce and one low downforce as a base for making own ones. i mean, that would help a lot, casual simracer isn't F1 engineer.
The tracks aren't included in the package. No one in these videos ever says where the vintage 1991 tracks come from. Or are you using the 1988 tracks that are available at Race Department?
Honestly, I am not sure which versions of the tracks I am using here. Tracks rarely come with car mods. Most of mine come from RD. And afaik on RD there is also a complete championship file for the F1 1991 season.
@@TimoDick Thanks Timo. I'm an ex-console player and these PC mods are new to me. You've been so helpful. I downloaded a bunch of 1988 tracks yesterday and cars separately from ASR F1. No problem installing them with Content Manager. Gotta find that complete file. Huge thanks. Subscribed to your channel.
Hey Timo, do you have a problem of drivers like Nakajima, Moreno and JJ Lehto taking the top spots in qualifying? Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet, Berger and other top drivers can be found on the bottom of the list? Is there some kind of driver skill file that I should install?
@@TimoDick I figured it out after a long research. When you do it on CM (use the ballast, etc) they only affect for the 1st race. You have to do it on championship.champs file and you'll get excellent results. I also improved the ai that way. I only put the top drivers' aggression to 20-25 and the slower ones to 1. That way they're not knocking you out on qualifying. I also managed to find the Phoenix Street Circuit for the 1991 season and added it to my 1991 championship. Let me know if you want 'em.
i own both assetto corsa and automobilista 2 and i've driven (IRL) an F4 and F3 cars and F1 car (5 laps) during private sessions. For the f1 classic i prefer the automobilista 2 day&night over assetto corsa mod
Reminder that a UA-camr criticised the content from ASR because the physics are terrible and the car sounds are from a 2011 rFactor 1 mod. What did ASR Do? DMCA claims all over his youtube channel and threats of legal action. Since then ASR has become a joke, if you want actual good content for AC go for VRC or RSS, they never dissapoint
Its shocking how ASR has a big dev team like this and still have physics that are this poor by modern standards. And they cannot handle criticism at all
I don't want to start a fundamental discussion here, because I truly believe in live and let live and to each their own. But for me, apart from the physics, RF2 has only shortcomings and disadvantages compared to most other (current) sims. UI, AI, bugs, game features - things that greatly diminish the driving pleasure in that game.
It's never too late! Myself racing AC since it's pre-release and now +150Gigs of AC mods, mostly FREE mods that is! Together with Content Manager, SOL, Natural Mod Filter, Photorealistic Filter and tons of additional AC apps, AC is IMO still very competitive to more modern updated sims as AMS2, rF2, R3E, iRacing, etc. AC right now available for €19.99 on Steam (my local region pricing, on special Steam Sales like Summer Sale, Christmas Sale, e.g. I've witnessed pricing even as low as €5.99) is a total BARGAIN, bearing in mind tons and tons of free high quality mods available. It's never too late :-)

There's an FFB setting in the car setup called 'steer assist' which is actually an FFB limiter, which I find feels better at 0%
I love these cars. Don't care how realistic or where the sound is coming from. It's an incredible package.
The Brabham Yamaha is my favorite of these (I'm strange, I know).

Are wet races now possible in rf1? (serious question)
I was running around Interlagos in a Leyton House in this mod. One of the most fun experiences I have ever had
So what would you recomnend to set up a classic F1 season? These mods for AC or the vintage cars in AMS2?
For a season I would go (I actually did) with the F-Classics Gen3 in AMS2.
Dont use ASR cars. Poor physics by 2022 standards and the developers are very arrogant and rude
