Excellent review thank you. Love the zoo shots too. I have the earlier 70~200 f4 as my only zoom for a7rv. You have me seriously thinking of an upgrade. But which one! Hmmmmm

Thank you. If you need the macro go for this one. If you want that extra stop of light and slightly sharper image the 70-200 2.8 is the way to go

Is this a good setup of just using standard iPhone 15 that has 13mm, 26mm and 52mm for closer shoot and feel less intimidated too and just get one 70-200mm F4 macro with 2X converter which can get 1:1 macro and reach 600mm in APSC mode if I just shoot as hobbyist and sometime shoot for personal product works plus I don't really care about Bokeh, I like my photos and videos to have story and creativity? Or should I get another lens, but should it better be 16-35mm F4 PZ G or 20-70mm F4? Before this I thought to get single 20-70mm because it cover ultra wide to short tele without need other lens but it will also means it won't be ultra wide and tele enough, I can miss out of the 35 < X < 70 because I can crop. What do you think of Sony RX100 and RX10 too, I hope they come up with new one soon. And does it make sense to get A7RV and not A7CR since you going to use these bigger lenses and it provide better EVF and 4 ways screen and the smaller body of A7CR doesn't provide any benefit other than weight saving but end up with lesser handling experience? Do you carry camera like that with these lenses on everyday normal hangout, if not, what lens and body you use? Why do people take amazing camera on trips but use less quality gear on everyday life which is most and important parts of your life too?

That’s a lot of questions haha.
The iPhone can be of use for sure but depends on your style of photography. You can try it and see how you like it.
The RX100 is okay but with smartphones now I feel the market for these types of cameras is limited. Your phone can do about the same without carrying another camera around. The new A7CR and A7C II are very capable cameras and like what they have to offer

Hello, i'm in trouble between which buy... I use a7r3. Two question: I've read the 70-200 f/4 G2 macro is weaker in sharpness and contrast at 200mm than 70-200 f/2.8 GM2, Is so weaker? For outdoor sports (and sometimes but rarely indoors sport like artistic skate), Which one you suggest ? af speed is the same?
I ask this also due to the price... if i take the G2 macro i can buy the 1.4x teleconverter (and if i use in aps-c mode i can reach 420mm at 18megapixel), if i take 70-200 f/2.8 i need to wait for tc.
But if performance are so better in GM2 i can wait

You pay more for better optics for sure. This lens you get macro capabilities which are a bonus. Sharpness will go to the GM2 2.8 but it’s not that big of difference

Struggling between the new F4 macro and the f2.8, particularly the price diff is less significant now
Thanks for the review for comparing the two

Tough decision. If you need Macro go for the f4. If you don’t really seeing yourself using it then 2.8. The faster aperture and internal zoom are definite benefits

Worth pointing out - if you add the 2x teleconverter you will get 1:1 Macro 💪

@@btonelli Yeah, they kind of did, the RF70-200F4L is even smaller and 100g lighter, but with less magnification (only 0.28x). And the next incarnation of this lens might take a decade (there was a 12 years gap between the last two EF versions, 2006-2018). Well, after Tamron's and Nikon's 70-180F2.8 lenses, that are just as small while more affordable and excellent, Sony had to make their 70-200F4 II more attractive somehow. Nice job, Sony 😊
