  • Ivo Pogorelich playing Rachmaninoff's Moment Musical no. 1, live in Utrecht, Netherlands, 2001. This incredible performance is already on UA-cam but I wanted to upload a single copy of it rather than the existing one which is split into two parts. I have now uploaded the entire set here: • Ivo Pogorelich plays R...

Rachamaninoff once commented that he played his compositions too fast, because they are too intimate for him. Then came Pogorelich and fixed the problem😂. Jokes aside: this interpretation is one of the most intimate and deep musical experiences one can experience!

This is such a great display of Ivo's neurotic approach... I was shocked the first time I heard it, searching for a more heartfelt, in depth treatment for such a delicate melody. So many details conveyed.. Such an organic, alive phrasing. I cannot express properly what I'm feeling.

Pogorelich is a lyrical psalmist at the piano, a genuine musical bard… his ability to present deep, unaffected emotion, undoubtedly, the authentic hallmarks of an artistic genius.

I love Luganski's interpretation of the Moments, yet this halting, stumbling variant of the 1st digs out a deeper emotional strata.

Che straordinaria potenza visionaria! Mi lasciò senza parole quando ascoltai questa interpretazione, anni fa, e da allora cerco di ascoltarlo non più di una volta all'anno per rivivere la sensazione di epifania che provai la prima volta.

At 06:26 his “wind effect” is out of this world. In those notes there’s the main melody well hidden within; only Ashkenazy brought it out in the clear, which is spectacular, but I still prefer Pogorelich’ faster and more emotional reading.

Tra l'altro si sente pure il tema della berceuse di Chopin: considerando il legame tra Rachmaninov e Chopin, è una intuizione meravigliosa

Pogorelich has certainly made wonderful recordings, e.g the Ravel Gaspard, Scarlatti sonatas etc., and even here he obviously has wonderful tone control but in terms of interpretation he has simply lost the plot. It sounds like someone practising out of time in order to learn the right notes, whilst completely ignoring the long line of the melody. It's a simple melody which is about to be given some variations, but the audience would never get to recognise
the theme after it was played in this bizarre, affected way. This trumps even the more perverse interpretations of Gould. Just mad, and anyone who can't see that is admiring the emperor's new clothes.@@NiceEvils
