  • It's 2019 and it's a new year and I'm learning how to start this YZ250F. It seems like it will start easiest if you don't mess with the cold choke or the hot choke or touch the throttle at all, just kick. I had already kicked this bike about 50 times and got it to stutter before giving up. After waiting 15 minutes I decided I should prove that the bike actually runs which is where this video starts. Enjoy

    I suppose I need to update this vid. The problem I was having is when I installed the hot start and cold choke, I installed them in opposite locations in the carb. When I tried to start cold I would pull the "choke," not realizing I was pulling the hot start the entire time. It starts much easier when I pull the right levers now.

      That is awesome!!! Im building a 08 250f right now and that it totally something I would do. After 5 months of a build I would be chasing down a simple mistake I made.

    If you buy a 2003 yz250f decompression cam, it starts lot easier. also I use the hot start always, I don’t know why but pulling it works way better than using the choke.

    I’m so stubborn I hate to give up on my YZ 250 F. But what a freaking pain in the ass to start, at least you made me chuckle. Since mine runs good once it started I’m assuming it’s an issue with the carburetor. Also has the worlds most complicated carburetor for a 35 hp engine 😂

      Had a kawasaki 450f 2007 swapped it for 250f 2002 cause I got excited in the moment such a dick head realise now how much off a head ace these bikes are probably just gonna be stupid again and rebuild the bike for 3k or something but they so many headaches and I'm having the same problem as this guy it just won't stay won't stay running but starts very low on compression another annoying thing I can't find parts for 2002 anywhere they only really make custom parts for 06 and up eifch is silly but yes these bike are definitely a head ache to start anyways they last long time I mean fuck 20 years for a bike to still be going running with no problems is pretty cool 😎 just a shame you can't modify anything decent under 06

    If you use the decompression lever on a cold start and find top end center with the kick start it will start 1st 2nd kick , I was told not to use the decompression lever on a cold start but if it works then why not !

    Just bought a KTM sx520 from 2002.. R.I.P my leg and life.
    It's just like the 250 in the video.. decomp lever. Well i hate to tell you KTM but.. it's okey to have that on a 250 up to maybe 426cc. But when you have 510cc you really dont want that decomp lever. You want something else.

    How the hell were you kicking it in flip flops what the hell 🤣🤣 is it got like low compression as I have a 250f 2001 with stuffed motor and then I got another one and just changed up the carby for a rebuilt one that was the same and it's like reallt easy to kick compared to the other 250 and it will start and keep turning off like yours think maybe cam chains and shims?

    • @micahmiller7313
      @micahmiller7313  3 роки тому

      No it was a fresh rebuild top and bottom. I had the hot start and choke knobs in the opposite spots in the carb. So I was cold starting it with the hot start engaged = no good. All is better now. As for the flip flops...doesnt everyone start their bikes with flip flops??
