For something a bit different from Level 42 could give Heaven in my Hands a spin. It’s a track that shows you what they could have done if they had moved towards a more rock sound.
I found Level 42 in the early eighties, they just blew me away with their music. Every album and 12” single found its way onto my sound system. Top band
Glad to finally see you're getting into Level 42. I've commented for years that you should give them a shot! (Try 'Children Say', btw). Now, if you want a real treat, here's one you've never heard of: The band is called 'Gizmodrome' and it consists of Mark King (Level 42), Stewart Copeland (drummer for The Police), and Adrian Belew (King Crimson). The song is pretty silly, but it's a showcase of three masters of their trade having fun! The song is called 'Man in the Mountain'. It's one of those where you'll love it or hate it, but if you just listen, you might be surprised!!
A nice mellow Level 42 but the next song should be Running in the Family. Mark King is 1 of the best Bass Players from across the pond Jay as a budding Bass player yourself think you'll be blown away😊❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
This was the song that made me a Level 42 fan for life. I would later pick up the bass guitar after I saw the band in concert and what Mark King could do with a bass. You've got to see a live performance video--it was life-changing for me as a kid.
I have been a fan for over two decades and have attended their concerts around seven times. Mark King, the singer, is also a bass player who employs a technique known as slap bass, which involves striking the strings with his thumb. Although it's not shown in this video, he often performs a solo during concerts, lasting approximately six to seven minutes, where he solely slaps the strings. I would love to hear any song from the albums "Running In The Family" or "Staring At The Sun" next. Please continue with the excellent selections!
Love this song, it didn’t hurt that I was going through a break up at the time in HS. I was listening this over and over with tears in the eyes. Ah young infatuation! Lol thank you for the reaction!
Great choice! Level 42 had some of the best musical stylings of the '80s. A couple of excellent upbeat tunes by the group include "Children Say," a great jazzy track from the same album as this one ("Running in the Family"), and the cool semi-disco dancey "Starchild," from the early '80s. Terrific harmonies, almost like the Bee Gees.
Maybe the saddest pop song of all time. In a good way. You can feel the atmosphere/pain in this one. Mike Lindup's backup vocals are sublime in the ride out. Wish you would have done the studio version. This version is cut down/edited.
This is a very beautiful song, Level 42 has the voices and the instruments to make it sound so professional. They really have a big discography and you should give a listen to for instance: Love Games, Hot Water, Leaving Me Now, Heaven In My Hands, Running In The Family, .....Level 42 was a very loved and popular band in the 80's in Europe. Sadly, the band lost 2 guitarists over the years: founding member and first guitarist Boon Gould( 2019) and already in 1989 the one who replaced him at the time: Alan Murphy, who died of AIDS. Alan Murphy also played a lot with Kate Bush and on her albums as well, since 1980 already. They were very close friends. Alan Murphy was a very talented guitarplayer. The band dedicated a song to him called 'Take Care Of Yourself'. Kate Bush named Alan in one of her songs from the album The Red Shoes, Moments Of Pleasure.
Level 42 and Swing Out Sister remind me so much of each other in terms of two 80s groups who had their hits, amazing catalogs, still quietly made good albums after the hits, and are still performing today.
thank you so so so much for reacting for this song from this amazing group. this is my number one song from level 42. mark king is a very good bass player. to know how good he is you must react to this song (let it be by ferry aid).
My favourite song from Level 42 is "Heaven in my Hands". It's a great, upbeat, positive track. Lots of neat musicianship, especially as it features their (at the time) new guitarist Alan Murphy. He was a virtuoso guitar player and writer. But unfortunately he passed away from AIDS a year after he joined the band. He was also a big part of Kate Bush's 1980s albums, and he played on the first 3 Go West albums. All worth checking out👏👏👏
Level 42 is my all-time favorite band, and Mark King is the reason I play bass today! Seen them 3 times backstage twice, on the bus once. He taught me his machine-gun triplets on his wine-colored JayDee Supernatural bass! Super nice guys, all of them.
This song is really remarkable to me...I was on a solelly walk alongside the lake in Hide Park on a cold grey winter Sunday afternoon listening to this masterpiece after a break up...a hard breakup...will never foget this moment of my life, even though life moved on.
You really, REALLY need to do Mr. Pink live at Reading Concert Hall for a display of bass virtuosity that, I think, compares to the Danny Carrey TooL drum solo video.
hey guys, here in europe is it now euro vision time. in may the biggest song contest happens every year. this year there are 37 countrys that will compete in 2 semi finals and than the final. isn`t it fun to listen to some of the songs. maybe only the 5 biggest contenders (according to bookmakers and most streamed songs) i reccomend than to listen to italy, ukraine, the netherlands, switserland and croatia. hope you have fun with that and i am curious who do you think will win in the final on may 11.
Great Level 42 song! You should check out "Leaving Me Now," "Hot Water, " Tracie," "Chiodren Say," "All Over You," "Overtime" "My Father's Shoes." and "Tired Of Waiting."
I'm enjoying the Level 42 discography trek you two are traveling on. Their ballads are just as good as their up-tempo material, carried heavily by the harmonies of bassist Mark King and keyboardist Mike Lindup, along with Mike's falsetto in the outro here. "Leaving Me Now" is another great slow jam with a killer piano outro by Mike (on the studio album version and live versions). "Take a Look" has another great harmony in its chorus.
Jay needs to hear Mark King cutting loose on the Bass, so any return to Level 42, please consider "Almost There", "Mr Pink", "Love Games", "Dune Tune", or the silly and fun "Chinese Way"
these lines: I would never leave If I thought you couldn't stand the pain A letter in the hall is written on the wall Because it's over (because it's over) And I ain't coming back And as I close the door I know I'm breaking your heart I should have loved you more Instead I've torn your world apart It's him walking away to go be a star - but that idea of a Letter with "no words of love" - thats a rough one.
Check out' Love Games ' by Level 42 , Mark king kills it on the base , it's British funk from back in the day , another note Mark King Lead vocals and Bass Guitar actually started life as a Drummer
Amazing! Thank you so much for playing this one. 'Heaven in my Hands' might be a good one for J with lots of horns and a rockier feel but all suggestions for L42 are good suggestions. They are great live too. ❤
Definitely one of the favorites from the Running In The Family album. Last song on side A on the LP 😉 They had at least 4 singles from this album for weeks on the charts in 87
Jay and Amber you guys are missing the essence of Level 42. You have to see a video of them live!!! Mark King is a beast on bass Jay would fall out of his seat. Check out " Love games " or " Leaving me now "...also go back and do Something about you live.
Knowing how much you love the Bass Jay - Mark King (their leader) is probably one of the finest bassists that the UK has produced. They started the BritFunk movement when they first started - try Love Games (the studio version) or Mark King (Live version) of Love Games...
Never thought you'd do this one. I never thought much of it apart from "yeah, another good song of theirs". I usually appreciate their faster works. (Something like "Sirens" or "The Sunbed Song" or "Kouyate".) But hey, you're reacting to one of my favorite groups, so it's all good!
Hey, I grew up listening to Level 42 here in the UK. I highly recommend that you check out some of their live performances from the eighties on the UK TV programme The Tube - especially The Chinese Way from 18th Oct 1985 or Something About You
Don't know about this one, but I'm thinking it's time (overdue, actually) for some Blood, Sweat & Tears. Haven't done any songs from them (with Al Kooper) in a couple of years. (Remember your reaction to "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" with Al's bluesy scream?) How about "Somethin' Goin' On," "My Days Are Numbered," ""Without Her," "Just One Smile," or "I Can't Quit Her."
What Level 42 are most known for is Mark Kings Bass guitar playing, he's one of the greatest players in the world. I love Its over but you need to check out songs like Hot Water to appreciate some great Bass guitar. Also try and find the live version of Mr Pink, that will blow your socks off
Mark King, one of the bass legends.
Just about to say that 👍
One of if not the most criminally underrated bassists alive. Check out the song Mr. Pink and prepare to be absolutely blown away.
Level 42 were such a huge part of my teenage life throughout the 80s. I love their music.
I’ve said it before, but as I am a Level 42 fan you must try “Hot Water” next. The bass is off the charts and it is SUPER catchy.
I agree and the live version of Mr Pink
great suggestion
I just cry when i hear this....just so melancholic...
goosebumps festival here
"Leaving Me Now" is essential Level 42 listening
Absolutely agreeed
For sure
the album version, not the remake single.
@@johammerstein3605to me the perfect version of Leaving Me Now was a live version from the New Theatre in Oxford in 2006. It’s spectacular.
Wholeheartedly agree..l love that song.
It's easy to get emotional with this song, so beautiful...
I love Level 42. They were a part of what was at the time called "The Second British Invasion"
“Love Games” …Level 42. Wait till you feel the Bass and Funky…..too a great listen one of the Best L42
Love Games. Can’t go wrong with that one. So funky! Groove heavy. That’s Level 42. I wish the original lineup would reform and make an album.
beat me too it !
Living it up the sun goes down. Wat a choon
For something a bit different from Level 42 could give Heaven in my Hands a spin. It’s a track that shows you what they could have done if they had moved towards a more rock sound.
“Leaving me now” is hauntingly beautiful. I saw them live back in the 80s. That bass! The band is awesome!
Level 42.....one of the best bands ever..!!!...in November they are coming to Chile...!!...hurrah...!!!!
Love this group. So much more than an everyday British synth pop band. Mark King is such a prolific artist.
You should check out "Running in the family" and "Livin it up (the sun goes down)"
fantastic

Running in the Family is such a catchy pop song despite its convoluted melody. I find it incredible how they managed to achieve that.
Beautiful ballad……now something punchy……HOT WATER…..or just fun….Living it up…..seen this band twice ….and they are still goin
You just can't go wrong with Level 42!!

I love the melody of this song. And the harmonies!!!!
My favourite Level 42 song. Thanks for reviewing. 😁

Such an incredible piece of music from Level 42. Absolutely mesmerizing and hypnotic full of raw emotion. That scenery in the video is amazing too!
Heaven In My Hands. Funk Rock genius
Hell yeah.

Something different from them : "Foundation And Empire", an AMAZING early instrumental
Level 42 and Swing Out Sister remind me so much of each other in terms of two 80s groups who had their hits, amazing catalogs, still quietly made good albums after the hits, and are still performing today.
One of my all time favs.
You two need to check out the group Breathe. They were popular in the mid 80s to the early 90s. You will love them.
Yes! 'How Can I Fall' and 'Hands Toward Heaven' are their 2 must-listen-to songs.
@@kellylaflash1016 Don't tell me Lies is another great Breathe track to check out.

Level 42 'Leaving me now'.😊

Top track, from without doubt one of the best bands of the 1980's. Mark King legend of a bass player and all round nice guy.
Well done guys, this is a great slow one by Level 42, but even better is 'Leaving me now'-Colin Ward
Love this track!!! 😍 So good! Great band!! Liking Amber's T-Shirt too....✌️
They really need to listen to Physical Presence. Man did Level 42 drop some funk in that song!
From the NETHERLANDS, one of my favourite records!
Fun FACT Level 42 comes from Isle OF WIGHT Lead singer Mark King is a resident of the island he's the bass player
One of my favs by them saw them at Wembley in the 80s
Level 42 hold so many memories growing up in England
Talk about the ultimate break up song. Love this one. Such a smooth beautiful song
Jay, that is Marc King...Level 42 Bassplayer...One of the best in the business...sings and plays insane runs.
To be with you again is another great track by Level 42
Level 42 was the last vinyl album I ever bought (new). Loved their sound.
You really, REALLY need to do Mr. Pink live at Reading Concert Hall for a display of bass virtuosity that, I think, compares to the Danny Carrey TooL drum solo video.

Wow this is a new song for me even though I love level42! Thanks for sharing!!! You guys should react to Jamiroquai ‘Alright’ really good 90s group!

I can't believe someone reacted to this song. Woah. This one was my private gem in the 90s. If you wanna take a step further, listen to "Lying Still."
Needs to be a live version…….”Man” live is off the charts
Running in the family is a banger 😊 Mark is a genius bassist
