I feel like a pin cushion as nurses have prodded and poked me in the last few days but do you know what just watching you drag a small but beautiful gem out of a bit of broken rock well it hasnreally cheered me up. What did you say life cant always be rainbows and butterflies and thats so true. No matter what keep going as theres always someone worse off than you. Think possitive and be kind to others who may need your help. Gem looks wonderful Justin. Thanks for cheering me up x 😊

    Hi Justin,
I gotta get this out of my system, could be a long comment, I appreciate that you might not have time to read it.
I've been fascinated by gold mining for over a decade now and always thought that would be the one thing I would always want to do. That was until about a week ago.
I was looking at some prospectors here on UA-cam and some opal videos popped up in the recommended. I watched one other channel before I found your channel.
Between the two of you, a lot more so yourself, I now have an indescribable fascination with this stone. a lot stronger than I ever felt about gold. The main reason being is I believe I can do what you do. I've heard you say a lot of people say that, but I do have some background.
I'm a toolmaker and machinist of ~20 years and I understand the cutting and polishing process inside and out. I also have a good 3D spacial awareness. The more videos of yours I watch, the more I felt like I can see inside these stones. The more I see you cut and and slice and polish, the more I begin to predict what you were going to do. One that stood out to me was the boomerang-ey L shaped stone you had, I knew you would cut it in three. Another one where you sliced long-ways between two color bars, I knew you would before you did. I can often predict where you will attack for your gem. I've never felt anything else call to me so strongly. I feel like I understand the stones. At first I thought it was the mining, but who wants to do that, getting all hot and sweaty with dirt all down your neck, I mean, I do, but I'm not to physically capable any more. Once I saw you doing what you do, it screamed at me. That would be the solution. Become an opal cutter. Sit comfortably in a cool room and put on some music or a movie and just cut. All day.
So thanks to you, that's what I'm doing. I have no money, but you have to start somewhere. So unfortunately I didn't buy anything off your site. Yet. I'm eyeing off that $1200 parcel you have. But I did bid on a few very small parcels on eBay for about $50 total, about 30 carats worth over 15 or so pieces. Some potential for some amazing color and some small ring or earring gems. I think I can pull it off. Realistically I'm not hopeful I will get a gem out of something so cheap and small or everyone would be doing it, but you have to start somewhere. It only takes that one gem to step up.
I still have some polishing gear in my toolbox, a lovely 4000 grit stone, and I have access to a (genuine) Dremel with a lot of stones and discs and a felt wheel, and plenty of wet/dry paper and other stones lying around. I'm used to polishing hardened steel and using ceramic cutting tools, so I'm also familiar with diamonds and diamond wheels. If I can manage to cut and sell a few gems, i'll get some wheels for the grinder, and...grind...my way up.
I really enjoy your content and have been watching a couple of your videos a day now for about a week. In a couple of weeks or so I will purchase your opal advice and share some photos, as I'd love to talk to about it. I want to know things like is it actually possible to get a gem or two starting small like me and build my way up, or do i realistically need to inject significant cash to get started...anyway, I shall find out when I pay you for it!
Until then, I look forward to enjoying more of your content. Thank you.

It still turned out lovely! You made it from a blob that no one could see its beauty within, to reveal a lovely colorful stone for someone to enjoy that may not have 1000s to spend! It will bring someone joy!
Out of curiosity...with the color bar that thick, would it have been possible to slice it through the crack to save the color on both sides or was that a risk that the whole stone would splinter?

So cool, you've got the same CabKing that I have! For the price it's a fantastic machine, I'm sure you'll enjoy it and the customer service is top notch. I've been using mine for 6 years and except for changing to sintered wheels the only thing I've changed was the light (it wasn't bright enough for me). I've cut loads of opals on my machine and really like it. Some people have knocked it because it has a lot of plastic, but I honestly haven't found that to be a big issue. The places with plastic aren't leaned on, pushed on, etc. I also like the flat laps on the ends and the water system (although I did switch out the waste water lines that came with it and replaced them with heavier duty lines).

2:58 I would recommend to put some thick hard rubber (?) under the machine to reduce the vibration.
Your work bench is acting like a speaker
It is always difficult to get rid of the low tone. All is vibrating and spreading out the "BRRRRRR"
Once I saw a generator in a big box in a factory
Inside the box it was too loud without ear protection
Outside the box it was fine
The walls of the box were hollow and filled with many steel balls
This balls took the energy of the vibrations

Hiya Justin, awesome video and no more rough sounding bearing, right mate? Anyway that's a beautiful crystal opal, I have cut a few of them, only because I can't afford any black opals. I have a crystal opal that has black mixed with the colour but it's still a crystal opal. I learned that from you mate.
I hope you have a awesome blessed day.
    Cheers! Cya!
    😺🐟 out!

Thank you Yes the bearing was noisy. This machine is quieter when I get it fine tuned. I did have my mic setup properly

@blackopaldirect Thanks for these great videos. What wheel grain do you use on the 6 wheels please?

If you’re doing soft stones like Ethiopian opal I think a pixie would be great especially if you travel with a cabbing machine

My dream is to afford the space, time, and money for a Cab King one day. ❤ Even though it wasn't the stone we thought it would be you still made it the very best stone it could be. I'm glad it came to your hands and was salvaged so beautifully.

Love the videos, that cab king was much louder than the other machine(s) you’ve used though. Made it hard to watch.

I like the new wheel, but the motor is much more noticeable on camera than the previous machine. The new machine has more intensity and is overshadowing your other audio. The previous machine was a lower pitch noise
