G-Code Editors in Mastercam

- This video is pulled from our last live stream. The full stream was roughly an hour long. I started off talking editors, briefly discussed VBScripts and their use in Mastercam, then did QnA for while....oh, and at the end I gave away a couple camInstructor T-Shirts! I started off with talking about using different editors in Mastercam and gave reasons as to why you would pick one vs another.
The editors I talked about...
Mastercam Code Expert.
Cimco - Mastercam install included version (free)
Cimco - Full paid version
Notepad - The windows standard text editor
Notepad++ - Free software I consider the best text editor out there.
With these editors I discuss the pros and cons of each and then give examples as to when you would benefit from using one vs the other. I could not cover absolutely everything offered in each, there's just too much.
To summarize, with these different editors you want to use the one suited for the job you are trying to accomplish. If you need to do a lot of text editing, file comparing, want lots of customization...Notepad++ is the best bet. If you want to be able to backplot or simulate your gcode, Cimco is great choice. The built in features of Mastercams Code Expert are some not found elsewhere. If you need these functions, this is an obvious choice.
Just know you can always switch your editors at any time. You are never locked into using only one...pick the one based on what is the best tool for the job.

The ones at the top of the toolpaths manager? Right click on whitespace on the menu bar, click customize the ribbon, go to options, click the checkbox.
you mentioned a free version of cimco edit is that locked to 30 days if I download it from their website

I have a vf2 with hrt210 When I try to do an engraving program in the verify it shows up right but at the machine it's backwards
I've tried to change mcam parameters it's 2018 btw Is there something in the Post processor I need to change ?
If I change on mcam from cw to ccw on verify it's backwards but at the Machine it's right I've tried origin on both left and right on X didn't make a difference . Is it because on the machine parameter page it shows the rotary on left side of table where is mine is
on the right ? Thanks for your help . I really think it must be a change needed in the post I'm using the generic 4x haas post with cimco I changed the A axis in the files and didn't make a difference there either .
This is only for engraving that it rotates the wrong way?
Is your rotary facing X+ or X-?
You could edit the post. You could also look at a parameter setting on the Haas control, 43 I think?
@@CamInstructor The rotary is placed at x positive with chuck facing spindle or if standing in front of machine the rotary is on the right side of table . I have to put in ccw on the axis substitution on y axis with unroll not checked to make it right at the Machine but on verify it's wrong . If I check clockwise on axis substitution its
right on verify but wrong at machine . I will try a drilling cycle and see if it's wrong there . I just got the rotary so
still trying to sort out all the settings . It's a 2001 vf2 with a brush hrt210
@@CamInstructor setting 43 is cutter comp but could it be one of these ? Haas Setting 45-48 Mirror Image

46 Mirror Image Y-axis
47 Mirror Image Z-axis
48 Mirror Image A-axis
I tried setting 48 and it worked Mirror A axis now is there a setting in post I can change ?
Tried CTRL+ALT+P in basic cimco. It doesn't do anything.
CTRL+ALT+P probably overrides basic cimco. If you already have the full version. Definitely a bug.
Looked online it mentions CTRL+SHIFT+P. I'll give that a try

You need a paid license to post gcode.

Use a post/machine definition for that control.
