Hayley is descended from a merchant family from Holland that settled in Ireland back in the early/mid 1600s... she has lots of Irish in her yes... lots of English/Scotch/Welsh too! A bit for everyone :) Her voice is amazing, and I find myself smiling every time I hear it. I personally believe her voice is a gift from God to her, and it was given to her so she could bless people...and find enjoyment in doing so...and that she is doing...and you can tell she is enjoying herself. Very cool!

I was just talking to my old landlord about it today curiously, and he said he felt a 'proprietry' interest in Hayley since he had known her as a kid when she was busking. Exactly. I'm agnostic/atheist too, but enjoy many hymns and religious music. Hayley is of Irish (Catholic?) descent (if you go back far enough all white New Zealanders are from Great Britain) and said once that one of her parents was a church goer and the other not. On the couple of interview where people have tried to get her to swear that her success and altruism are all due to a Christian life-style, she has seemed to very politely and sweetly skirt the issue.

The British press has been predicting Hayley's crashing and burning since she was 16 and say each year that there will be a crisis for her. One even said that because she was a New Zealander from a small city she wouldn't be "streetwise". In fact she's never put a foot wrong and the Tabloids have never got the tiniest thing on her.
