    This is the best pre-flight video I have seen. This should be a 1:1 training video at Cirrus. Question regarding your kneeboard: are those standardized log sheets? Where can I find those? Happy landings - and keep up the phenomenal work.

      @@jan-christopherwilhelms172 I love the look of the Bose pro series but I'm told that its designed for quieter cockpits like jets. How is the noise in the SR 20 with that headset?

      @@TheRenBaron Forms well received - thanks! I love the Pro Series for its light weight - you really don’t know you‘re wearing a headset. Noise in the SR 20 is great. Bose noise cancelling frequencies are perfect and get rid of the exact level of noise that can be safely excluded. Regardless of the noise cancelling, the other day I noticed acoustically that one cylinder was not quite there yet. Maybe give it a try some time. I just ordered a set of A20 for rear passengers and am curious to compare the two. Happy landings and keep up the great content!

      @@jan-christopherwilhelms172 The A20 is top of the line. I just read a bunch of reviews of the Pro Series 2 on the Bose website and pretty much all the reviews are from airline pilots who rate it very high. One review rated it not good for GA planes like Cirrus for what its worth. I'm going to stick to my A20 for now.

    Just discovered you on You Tube. I’m an ATP based south of you flying my own Phenom 300. Seriously considering a Cirrus to get back to low and slow and provide my son with an IFR platform to learn. Great video - great flying! Can’t fly the jet to SMO anymore, unfortunately.

      The SR22T has a 25k ceiling and a 210ktas cruise. It's a bit more than just an IFR platform...more of a cross-country cruiser with a LOT of safety features not even the jets have....

      I fly a cirrus SR22T (2018 gen 6), a gen 2 vision jet and am in the process of upgrading to a honda jet elite. in my opinion, the SR22T is my favorite to actually fly. for the most part, the jets are video games with horrible consequences for losing.

    Renny - i am learning to fly the Gen 6 and this was great to see your process and procedure. Can’t the TFMB out to my head :) great video and filming of the flight instruments. Where do you order your paper forms for the knee board? Thanks Steve

      Thanks Biggame! I designed the forms based on my workflow and how I like to see things. I use 2 forms. One is for flight info and the other is a takeoff briefing form. Here is a link to the company I use to print them printpps.com

      The sheet I use on the kneeboard is not a checklist. It's really a notepad where I write down key flight info. If you send me your email address I can send you the doc.

      I put together the form myself and had them printed up. I actually use 2 forms, one for flight info and the other for takeoff briefing.

    Steve, I have a few questions.
    I too started three years ago, I’m Turing 60 this month and just bought a 2016 SR20 after having flow my Liberty XL2 for 3 years and about 600 hours. I’m flying my SR 20 everywhere, Seattle, Phoenix, Vegas and all over Texas.
    Question one, when I’m flying IFR I have my iPad set to low IFR routes to see the Minimums along my route do you ever use your iPad for that?
    I’d like to fly the SR20 into Tahoe but a bit concerned about density altitude. But I think I heard you say you flew your sling up there, no problems? I’m looking at KRNO as a option because it’s 2,300 lower.

      Yes I use the Ipad for low IFR routes from time to time. But more often than not I use the MFD on the Perspective + system to monitor altitudes on the IFR routes and use the Ipad in VFR mode because it gives more detail regarding roads and cities than the IFR low map. As I've spent more time with the Perspective + I find myself using it more and more and using the Ipad as a reference for other items. With regards to flying an SR 20 into Tahoe (KTVL) I don't thing that is a problem unless its screaming hot. The runway there is plenty long enough and if you are taking off on Rwy 36 you'll have no terrain to deal with which will provide you plenty of time and space to get enough elevation (10,000 ish) to get comfortably above the terrain.       Ren, thank you for your response. My Cirrus is hangared at Chino but we live close to John Wayne were I learned to fly. Excited to take some golf trips to Tahoe soon. You do a great job a describing what you’re doing with a visual to see. Happy to see you have made many of the same mistakes I have. Most common to me now is forgetting to continue to bug my heading bug then selecting heading mode on the AP and the plane starts making a turn in the wrong direction! Always learning.

    Renman, great cockpit videos. When ATC says "vector for climb" what are the saying? I've not heard that before. BTW, we spent a couple of days together a few years back. I was the head of marketing at Teradek and we loaned you guys the streaming equipment for in Incu tour, and we came and filmed for a couple of days. Glad to see you up and flying. very cool

      Heh Rod nice to connect again. The 'vector for climb' instruction on the departure from Santa Monica is ATC letting me know that they will be giving turns to heading on the climbout to cruise altitude. When you take off from SMO you head out over the Pacific and then they give you a series of turns to get you heading North, South, or East back over land.

    Why the oxygen hookup if you are just going to KTVL? You can easily clear the mountains at 11.5 if you wanna go that high, but can do it lower....diving into the airport from high up can be kinda hazardous...not enough distance to get down quickly once in the lake bowl.

      I've flown to KTVL previously in my Sling 4 on VFR routes and flew lower where I did not need oxygen and it was fine. But in the Sling 4 I was limited because oxygen was not an option. I believe on that particular IFR flight plan the recommended altitude was 16,000. At that altitude I get there a bit faster. And one of the reasons I bought a Cirrus was because the plane has alot of capabilities my Sling did not including higher ceilings and oxygen among others. With regards to the descent, if you look at the video with the approach into KTVL ua-cam.com/video/hFGJYa4svvI/v-deo.html you can see that I made a very long approach into the airport so there was no need to 'divebomb' down to the airport.     Do you pack a back up stratus just in case of pfd and mfd failure?

      I don't carry a Stratus. In the event of PFD and MFD failure I still have the backup instrument below the panel and if that fails I have my Ipad. If that fails I'm looking for a flat spot to pull that parachure.

      The tablets are using aviation apps designed to help with all kinds of important information about airports and navigation. Those tablets have become a powerful tool for today's pilots.

      Tablets are used for flight planning and more importantly to more clearly identify and see traffic via ADS-B...a new technology that identifies other planes by their direction, altitude, tail numbers and speed.

      @@jacko1380 The FAA prohibits the use of an EFB as a backup to the panel. www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_120-76D.pdf. The backup to a full panel failure is your backup instruments which are on their own electrical bus and battery.

      At 100% power in climb that is the number. Once you are in cruise its around 17 gallons an hour.
