- Legendary composer John Barry (Goldfinger, Dances with Wolves) was the first artist to score the 1986 Eddie Murphy mystical action comedy "The Golden Child" Unfortunately, after test screenings and re-cuts, Barry's music was dropped almost entirely except for the title song "The Best man in the World"
Thanks to Lalaland Records, Barry's rejected score is now available as a limited edition 5000 unit 3-disc set.
For the following clip, I have restored Barry's music into the scene.
This scene was altered after Barry scored it therefore I had to make some minor music edits to make it fit the on-screen action.
I love Eddie Murphy in this movie, he really scored good characters and good movies back in the 80’s

I was reading up on this movie, and It originally had a darker tone, but Paramount didn't like it so they re edited it as a comedy. Eddy Murphy said the original script was really good, but hated the movie.
The stop-motion demon with this music, makes me think of a Harryhausen film.
And I thought the lady was great too she did a good job playing her character

Originally the movie supposed to be a drama starring Mel Gibson, but he was unavailable so they chose Eddie Murphy & switch the script from drama to comedy.
I'd like to see the whole score with the movie and a better cut...this could still be a better movie than it is. I don't think this music works though...

The edit was horrible. But still entertaining.
Sorry. John Barry is a brilliant composer, but this score is downright gloomy and depressing, hardly an effective compliment to what is supposed to be a fantasy/comedy/adventure.
When one contrasts this with Michel Colombier's more uplifting and energetic approach, it's easy to see why Barry's music was rejected.
