  • All the commercially grown Fraser Firs come from the seeds of mature trees on the 5000 foot plus summits of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Fraser Firs (Abies fraseri )grow in the sub alpine spruce-fir forest, remnants of Northern forests pushed south in last ice age. These trees are known as the "Cadillac of all Christmas trees". They have soft deep green needles, full branches, strong branches, retain needles longer than any other tree, ship well, trim well, and have a natural pyramidal shape. These highly desired trees go for top dollar on Christmas tree lots. In this video, I guide viewers to the summit of the highest peak in south west Virginia and the northern most occurrence of this ancient sub-alpine spruce fir forest to see these trees in their native habitat.
