    Great tips; thank you! Really appreciate the advice on elbow position. I've been playing acoustic for several years now and noticed a bad habit of letting my elbow drift too far from my torso; especially when trying to get all my fingertips pinned (another of your tips) on a 4-fingered G chord. Paying more attention now to elbow position and it really pays off. Getting more leverage on my bar chords now, so am able to hit them cleaner on fast transitions. Thanks very much for the video. Greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for sharing the fundamental knowledge every teacher should teach their students before touching any strings.
    Great video clearly with years of practical learning shared in a very didactic way.
    I would recommend to explore more the muting processes connected with the classic major chords as well.
    Thank you again and look forward for more lessons to consume and practice (and buy!)

    Another problem I have found is bending the strings which causes one of the notes to go out of tune with the others. This is particularly easy to do with the more harder to play chords. Similar problem I get is with my electric guitar that has deeper frets so when I push the string down to the wood, I get dissonance again - I have to be careful to not push all the string down hard and thus stretch the string out of tune. Some chords seem worse than others like D for example.

    • @first_fret
      @first_fret  Рік тому +1

      Haha, i was going to talk about this problem in the video first, but then realized the video would be too long.
      But yea, once you realize you dont really need to apply almost any force while frettingz it becomes much better

      @@first_fret Thanks. A subject you maybe able to help us with bar chords. I really struggle not to get buzz because I have a gap under my first finger. Ir is especially bad when I only have 2 other fingers used such Gm on the 3rd fret. I have tried all sorts of positions with my first finger and have tried changing the angle to use more of the side but it is always a challenge. Any tips for your subscribers would be very helpful.

    Thanks, although I was taught by a professional classical guitarist that you shouldn't wrap your thumb over the top of the guitar-neck!

    • @first_fret
      @first_fret  Рік тому

      If you're playing classic music on classical guitar, then yeah - you probably shouldn't play that way.
      However, If we're talking bout blues or classic rock - thats the best way to do it

    • @Nownow277
      @Nownow277 Рік тому

      My rule of thumb is that I’ll play the song however the original artist did, this way you cant sound wrong! Also with you being called Stevie Ray I would’ve expected you to be partial to barre chords with the thumb over haha

    • @KaptainCanuck
      @KaptainCanuck Рік тому +1

      It depends on what your style is. Most rock guitarists won't play with the pinky (and cannot if they wrap the thumb around to put it on the sixth string for muting). For any style of music, the thumb classical style is best unless the thumb is desired to mute the sixth string.

    Missed a VERY important mistake: failing to mute unplayed strings. As you see him playing his D chord, he mutes the E and A string. With muting you eliminate accidentally sounding strings (forgiving when sloppy or lazy strumming) even with precise strums, stings will resonate even when not struck.

    • @first_fret
      @first_fret  Рік тому +1

      Pretty sure i covered it in some other video. But yeah, should definitely do it

    I wanted to see if the annoyance was here, as well, and it is. I got far enough to make a technical note for guitarists: the fret and fret wire are NOT the same thing. A fret wire is the metal piece crossing the fretboard. The fret is the wide space on the fretboard between the fret wire and does not include the said wire.
