Neil Hefti was an extremely talented composer and arranger, working all the way from Stan Kenton and Count Basie to many more. He is right up there with the finest big band arrangers, and composers from Berlin to Gershwin and on.
Bobby Troup who wrote the lyrics was seated at the table behind me one evening at Monteleone's West jazz supper club in Tarzana, Ca in Feb 88 & Tom Hattan of "Popeye" fame on KTLA Ch 5 in LA was seated at that same table, another reason I recall such it was snowing in Tarzana that night & Bone-chilling cold while the Page Cavanaugh Trio were entertaining inside
As an addendum, I was in Birmingham a million years ago watching a band called the 'Jazz Bastards' My mate knew some people in the group and on the half way break we ended up on stage. I asked if they would play this and they did!!!! A memory made in heaven with this classic!!!
Whenever I want to take a deep breath and find peace I come to this video and remember when the world was black and white I’m 72 now lived through many foolish wars But I love brass and beautiful girls to this day
I can't read sheet music. I can't play an instrument. And Lord knows, I can't sing. But as a Supreme Court justice once said: "I can't define pornography, but I know it when I see it", I can recognize musical perfection when I hear and see it. Devyn Rush's rendition of this Hefti classic is the definition of perfection.
@@navy57 When you can feel it or if it moves you then the music has done its job and your opinion is just as valid as any virtuoso or music theory scholar.
It is absolutely wonderful to hear a performer enunciate the lyrics, as they did for scores of years until mumbling and fumbling became the thing to do. I detect a little Amy Winehouse there and the ability to sell it like Tony or Frank. Take on more of these, please. My suspicion as life moves forward with its inevitable kicks to the head and heart, her voice will gain even more soul. I don't wish it upon her, but it rains on everyone. Right now let's hear more from this young virtuoso.
I love her changing facials at 1.38 repeating 'we call it girltalk'...her varied expressions are so phoney and abundant...guess she's great fun to be with...
This was the opening/theme song for the house band that played in the supper club I worked in back in the '70s. I heard it then more often than I can count, but just remembered it now 50 years later and decided to look it up on the UA-cam time machine.
I love the way you sang it giving it the breath of Life, Billie Holiday probably turned over in her grave just to hear you sing "Girl Talk." Beautiful 🌹 beautiful style you have and it's 💯 you.
I knew this theme by an Oscar Peterson album with the same name. Never hear the lyrics of this theme. Marvellous! So fine and thank you very very very much!!!! The world need some good music like this.
Rush’s voice is a beautifully unique mix of raw, gritty soul and theatrical purity that is both deeply nostalgic and wonderfully contemporary. on adhere tous
She delivers this rendition of such a beautiful standard with maturity, feeling, and soul. And ungodly, but transparent, technique. I’m a huge Oscar Peterson fan, but this is the definitive performance of this song for me.
Well, this was pretty golden. I love this song. Everybody influences everybody else, and it's great to see some Amy Winehouse influence appear in this talented lady's performance. Terrific and hope to hear more in this genre from Devyn and the band.
I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. I've listened to 'Girl Talk' at least 4 times by 4 different artists. It's a great, catchy song and you delivered it so well! 10/10 😀
Wonderful interpretation of one of the best Jazz song ever! Both the singer and the orchestra are really talented. Devyn Rush does not "over do it", even if her voice is powerful. It is subtle, balanced, accurate. One of the best versions of this songs, in my opinion (a music-only would be the one of Ray Bryant, 1976).
Pegajossaaaa, sensualisima rola.... woooow fantástica combinación... fusiones de hormonmas, de sentimentalismos.... viva la musica, las chicas y las #FeromonasDigitales...
Magic interpretation of a classy song, beautiful talented vocalist, top band, great sax solo, just perfect.
That hard driving, deep beat of Mr. Hefti!
Nothing better than to hear that deep beat and glorius sound of that incredible sax! Thanks so much....
Hefti tunes seem to have the theme come in on the upbeat... Girl Talk.. Lil' Darlin' , Cute
The very best vocal version to date. Simply flawless! What a voice, what a lady!
Insane performer and her voice is just as amazing
Devyn Rush is one of the best band singers I’ve ever heard
Yes I agree
The song is so cool, and the singer so hot. Lovely.

I agree but it's Neal

@@michaelchapman4955 Wish I had been there.😥
Devyn Rush conveys, in a fascinating way, that she knows what's going on; great facial presence and she can bring it, voice wise. Wonderfulness!

What can I say, this knocks me out. This has moved into my permanent library
I’ve been around the world on a plane…..But Devyn sends me out of the universe. Thank you sooo much Devyn and Hefti family and all involved.
I forgot I was living in a different world she’s so retro I thought I’m in heaven ❤
Whenever I want to take a deep breath and find peace I come to this video and remember when the world was black and white I’m 72 now lived through many foolish wars But I love brass and beautiful girls to this day
Me too, homeboy. ( 72 also. ) At least we remember better times.
That whole thing is so fine. She is smooth as velvet and the band is perfect setting up the whole thing. ♥️
Again and again I have to listen to this song.. I know it's all through..,
Neal Hefti wrote some beautiful songs, this one and Lil Darling are two that come to mind
J'adore. Merci beaucoup pour cette magnifique interprétation 👍
Oh my lovely 10times do it again
what an amazing singer! Beautiful too!
Devyn is perfect for this song....and the sax solo is the bee's knees.....
Best rendition that I've heard.
What a fab singer Devyn is! WOW - just found my new favorite.
Very Glad I found this.
Love that dress I’m intrigued ❤❤❤❤😅
I've heard many, many versions of this tune and now I'll add Devyn's performance to the few perfect performances of this tune.

I love her changing facials at 1.38 repeating 'we call it girltalk'...her varied expressions are so phoney and abundant...guess she's great
fun to be with...
That gal's got class.
Based on her physical beauty and her singing style, she deserves to be dressed in Givenchy or Oleg Cassini.
absolutly wonderfull !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful,sweet and gifted!
Best to watch and listen to.

Great singer and fantastic band. They captured the essence of the song. Love it!
Just a stunning, sensuous, playful interpretation. Nailed it perfectly!
i guess it is quite off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new movies online?
@Jace Dash I use FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)
Wow...love this slightly ironic 60s twist..
Smooth, graceful and eternal!
This is (my version of) perfection on all fronts.
Tony Lombardo this version is nice, but try listening to Julie London’s version, which IMHO is perfection.
A superb performance all the way around.
I love the way you sang it giving it the breath of Life, Billie Holiday probably turned over in her grave just to hear you sing "Girl Talk." Beautiful 🌹 beautiful style you have and it's 💯 you.
Magnifique !
Beautiful!
Lovely, in the late 1960s, I used to see Harry James in Columbia,SC, and he always played this song!
great song, great band, great singer!
Sometimes I think I could have been born a century earlier, in a world without jazz, and I shudder in horror.
Just found my new favorite!

I should reassemble my swing band, now that I know how this is supposed to be performed. Magnificent.
She delivers this rendition of such a beautiful standard with maturity, feeling, and soul. And ungodly, but transparent, technique. I’m a huge Oscar Peterson fan, but this is the definitive performance of this song for me.
