    Hello Skip, The best to you in 2024. Being one who really loves to build things in the microwave region I admire your talents and your videos, they are enlightening. Hearing the RTTY took me back to the 70's, cant say that I miss it. Just started to erect a 2.6M dish and am currently fabricating the base mount for it, WX permitting. Working putting together 23cm,13cm and 3cm systems all at the same time is a little challenging but It's a lot of fun. TNX for the videos, hope to wrk u soon 73's de K3DMY, SW PA

    Hi Skip, many thanks for awesome 9cm CW EME QSO on January 1st. You were very loud here, despite the Moon was in apogeum far away from Earth. It was my best pleasure to work with you EME on new band next to 23cm and 13cm. I hope to hear you again soon via Moon, 73 de Raf SP9VFD

    Hi Skip, that is a great video to finish off 2023. Your special effects and timing on the RTTY made it extra special. Dave VE7HR

    My isp took over a old cable tower and is giving me the old dishes if I can haul them home so maybe one of these days if I get creative enough I will hear you. Love the text tone.

      Hello Markis, well there are different levels of this type of communications and moonbounce.. I am a bit of an extreme as I really like building the equipment.. Other frequencies the contact is even possible with voice instead of CW.. CW is usually easier, some signals are really strong, see my other videos etc.. Thanks.. Skip

    Great video Skip. Always good to see all your home made equipment. Sorry I only had on shot at the Moon on 9cm on the 29th. I made a few QSO's including with Ron DU3T on CW and digi mode. Also worked Erich OE9ERC with his new 10m offset dish and PA3DZL, PA0PLY and SP9VFD.
    I think I have a problem with my sspa that I need to check out, so have taken the feed off the dish for now...
    Happy New Year 2024 and good health to you and your Wife.

    I'm looking forward to trying 9cm to you when I get things organised. I have about 120 watts at the feed, but I need to get some trees removed to give me some clear sky to the west and I'd like to get the 3m solid dish engineering finished. I guess it would work with the 2.4m though. Too many projects, too little time! Neil G4DBN

      Hello again Niel.. Your right to many projects, not enough time.. Get that 13cm up and running ha ha.. I hear through the grapevine you might be at the EME conference, or the MUD in Vancouver.. Hope so, be good to meet you in person.. Enjoy your videos a lot.. Skip

      Yes it is real sad news about Al.. I will have to look back on this video, I dont recall Al being on there but the way my memory is he probably was.. I worked him many times and had hoped to meet him at this years conference, not to be... Thanks, Skip

    Thanks for bringing this to UA-cam! Is DU3T able to hear his own echos at 30W? I remember meeting VE4MA and others at the Central States VHF Conference in Iowa years ago.

    • @VE6BGT
      @VE6BGT  Рік тому

      Hello Dave, I dont recall if Ron DU3T mentioned anything about hearing his own echo, be doubtful. Maybe a little.. He was using a driver amp which eventually be replaced by a much larger output.. It's all he had at the time.. He wanted to work these stations who are going to loose this freq this New Year unfortunately.. Yes Barry VE4MA is a great fellow, very knowledgable .. Skip

  • @shanerorko8076
    @shanerorko8076 Рік тому +1

    So how do you get the signal to the feeds? Via coax and use of amplifiers over the coax?

    • @VE6BGT
      @VE6BGT  Рік тому

      Hello Shane. It depends on the frequency on how the signal gets to the feed on the dish.. Lower freq like 1296 and 2304 Mhz the amplifier is in the shack and I pump the high power down this large 1-5/8 hardline, next to nothing for loss.. Higher freq though this cable is no good.. So on the 9CM (3400Mhz) the 150 watt amplifier sits at the feed and it has two preamps so it takes nothing to drive it to full power.. So I have the transverter in the shack and it sends milliwatts down this 7/8 heliax cable which is good for this freq, and even with the loss it has plenty of drive power..
      Higher frequencies like the 6CM band ( 5760 Mhz ) everything sits at the feed, transverter and amplifiers.. So then all I have to do is send a 144 Mhz low power signal down the cable to the feed assembly and it does all the conversion up at the feed point, no loss what so ever... Of course then there are other issues to contend with.. My cable run from my shack to the feed is in the area of 200 feet... Skip

      @VE6BGT Thanks very much for that explanation.
      I was just wondering, how easy it would be to have a feed mounted radio and use CAT5 or 6 for the control and audio signal. Pretty much how Icom does it with the new IC-905.

    Amazing video again 👌
    I got a question Is it possible to detect a Pulsar with that dish, have you ever tried some radio astronomy With the dish

    • @VE6BGT
      @VE6BGT  Рік тому +1

      Yes it is possible to detect pulsars with my size of dish, so I have been told.. I was going to try that someday but later discovered that its a long process of computer program processing and takes hours to get the results.. I got kind of discouraged that way, I am more of real time enthusiast.. But I want to take my 432 feed and some time detect the hydrogen line.
      Who knows maybe more, just not enough time in a day, or a lifetime ha ha.. Skip
