At least you explained that you enjoyed doing it this way.
I think the biggest problem I have with any of these fero rod/magnesium type of firestarters, is that if you are prepping to take all of this stuff with you, just take a storm lighter/jet lighter, and it will light anything in pretty much any weather conditions.it’s not as though a ferro rod is traditional like a Flint and steel - it is a very modern man-made item. So just use a gas lighter.
I keep a arc lighter in my coat which is useful at time. Sometimes it’s good to struggle as well
I have the same one and the scraper worked just fine with for me, no issues.
Looks OK. Carbide scraper should do the trick as well. Thank you for showing this to us, Joe. Stay safe and stay warm
Thanks shovel and thanks for watching as always.
Square off the spine of striker with a grinder or sharpening stone. They are stamped manufactured thus have rolled edge by default. Plus the paint on them makes them even rounder.
Sharpen its spine.
This is not a bad piece of kit. The back side of a two inch piece of hacksaw blade makes a better scraper. You want tiny magnesium curls, not a powdery substance. Wrap the handle with some duct tape. Tear off a couple of inches and scrape the magnesium onto the sticky side. The wind won’t blow it away as easily, and the tape is a flame extender if you only have marginal tinder.
👍🏼👍🏼
Yup all good advice. Just editing a new video with the ferro rod I use and that has duct tape as a handle 👍🏼
I find that using the scraper on the other side with the cut out side scraps the magnesium alot better?
It is good you checked it out saves wasting time and money buying one cheers
Yup thanks for watching
Watching you with interest my FRIEND! Looks like a great kit!

I also have a thing for ferro rods. Just bought 1 yesterday. Total 6 now. 😅
Very Nice . Please use a carbide tipped knife sharpeners as striker .
I recently got one. Check out my mad dog video. Thanks for watching

Agree dont like those crappy strikers.seems a chunky size ferrorod too.lit pretty quick 👍
Yeah think this is one of the better ones
Hi were did you buy that ferro rod from
Got it off Amazon uk. If your in the states it should be there. If not there is a company I think is called “survival fire starters” or something similar they do one as well
Thanks Prepper in the Woods.

I’ve always found those strikers suck. And I prefer a thicker ferro rod over having the magnesium.
Think the rod is smaller as it dosent take much to start it off. Also saves weight. I use my uberleben hexi rod as my go to rod
How do you make that look so easy?! I'm sweating...my sparks hit the mag but it won't ignite.
