Thank you so much for reviewing the Sparrow by Dream Hammock. I've had analysis paralysis trying to figure out if I'm a left-lay or a right lay. I almost decided to purchase the Darion by Dream Hammock but just couldn't commit. Then I saw your review of the Sparrow and decided to check it out on their website. I was so happy to see the Sparrow had a symmetrical version of the Sparrow-problem solved, I can lay in either direction! Also, being that you are a bit taller than me, it was nice to see that there is plenty of extra room at the foot and head. Thanks again, and I am really enjoying the other content on your site. Take care.
Thanks so much for the compliment! And you’re making a great decision in buying a Sparrow. All their products are amazing! Good luck in your hammock journey! Nick
I wish I knew about that type of vent before I ordered mine. I changed my order once already requesting two vents on each end. I was worried about condensation. Now I think I would like this vent better. Seems like you might have a little more visibility with yours. I still have 33 orders ahead of me. I wonder if I have time to make this change. Thanks for the review. I'm jealous. LOL
100% the Smiths over at Dream Hammock will accommodate whatever changes you need to make to your order. I really like the design I went with for the vent. Enjoy! Nick
Nice review. I already ordered my Sparrow and can’t wait to get. Your vent on the over cover seems nice. There wasn’t an option for that kind of vent when I ordered so I guess I’ll just have to be happy with the smaller one. When it comes to lay direction. Randy told me that 90% of their orders are for right lay (head left feet right) so that’s what I ordered (I’m new to hammocks). I hope I made the right choice after watching this. The question that I have now is why wouldn’t everyone simply order the way you did and have the option of laying in either direction. At this point I can only hope there is some kind of benifit Thanks again
If you’re hammock hasn’t gone into production yet you should be able to switch out the vent design. The sparrow is an asymmetrical hammock which means it has a specific lay direction, however, the sparrow doesn’t have a dedicated head or foot end. Dream hammock does sell symmetrical hammocks, the Raven Model, if you’d prefer to be able to lay in either direction. I’ve found that once you get comfortable with your last direction laying the opposite way feels unnatural. So having the option of laying in either direction isn’t necessarily a benefit. Hope this helps. Nick
@@The.Boo. I just sent them an email about it. Let see what they say. I have about 33 orders in front of me so maybe there's time. Maybe the company is growing or something because I dont thing customer service has a phone number. Only email address. Unless I didn't see it. This is my first hammock. I wish they had a phone number or other info on there web site to offer tips on what can be customized. All I know is that the standard cover only comes with 1 small vent at the head end. I thought that might be a problem with condensation and limit visibility. Then I saw a different video where the customer requested 2 vents at each end. I knew I would want that better then 1 so I emailed them and they made the change. (for $15 more). That would have been a good time to tell me of other options like this one but they didn't, so I didn't ask.
Most things can be customized, if you know what you want. I believe they only communicate via email, but they are quick to respond. On the Dream hammock website, there’s a tab for recent projects. You can view hundreds of previously made hammocks if you want to get ideas for your particular build.
Triple Nickel Outdoors The problem of looking at recent projects is you can’t see what they look like. In your video you can see what that vent looks like. To be honest I can’t understand why anyone would want the regular vent over the one you chose. The bottom line is this ordering process is geared more toward those experienced with hammocks and know exactly what they want. I don’t know the pros and cons of one way or the other. I’m 62 yrs old and I hope this is my first and last hammock
Looks like a great hammock, was excited to use for a trip next month but was disappointed to find Dream Hammock doesn’t really have inventory on hand. They have a lot of custom options, but it takes two months to get one of these hammocks. Suggest ordering well in advance of your trip if your set on a DH. I have WBBB and love, however was looking forward to trying the Sparrow as we needed a second bag for my Son.
Dream Hammock does have a Ready to Ship option that will ship out within a few days. They’re not customizable but it’ll get you into a great hammock. I just checked their website and it appears they are currently out of stock but check back periodically for when they restock that option!
good review. I am a first timer, what I dont understand is how i'd lay. I am generally a side sleeper and at home I sleep on my right ear most of the time. in a hammock would i be facing toward the zipper/mesh, or with the back of my head to it facing the fabric?
For the way you sleep a left lay Hammock may work better (head right/feet left). That would allow you to face the interior of the hammock while you sleep. That being said, I lay in the opposite direction, head left/feet right and have found that I can roll over on both sides and get comfortable. Also, dream Hammock says the majority of hammocks they make are head left/feet right models. If you email randy at Dream Hammock he can answer any questions you may have in greater detail! God luck Nick
Kevin Piggott I love my Sparrow. Highly recommended! Everything by Dream Hammock is amazing! I’ve been looking to try the Raven to check out the symmetrical design.
@@TripleNickelOutdoors The raven is awesome check my order #6106 and materials. i have used it many times, so pleased and comfortable. I have had correspondence with Randy during the process of my order as i am in the UK. what a really nice guy
Kevin Piggott that’s a really nice bird!! Are you pleased with the double layer and do you benefit from the symmetrical design? I’ve tried laying in the opposite direction and I can’t get comfortable. So I don’t mind if my hammocks are made with a right lay.
@@TripleNickelOutdoors Yes i prefer a double layer i am 6'2" and 230LBS. i have tried symmetrical and its comfortable but i am a side sleeper and its just fine for me
Great video. Just discovered ‘hammock camping’ tonight. I would be using it while motorcycle ‘adventure riding’. My question is, how do you know which orientation to choose? Does it relate to how you sleep in a bed? I generally sleep on my left side if that helps.
Muzz Litebeer on the Dream Hammock website, they specify that around 90% of the hammocks they make are a right lay (head left/feet right). This is why I originally went with that direction. It works for me also because I’m right handed, so my right arm has more freedom to move around and make adjustments. Dream Hammock does offer the Raven which is a symmetrical hammock. This model will allow you to lay in either direction. This will give you the ability to try out both lay directions but, at least for me, once you’ve found the way that is more comfortable you’ll probably stay that way. You can email Randy and Deanna over a Dream Hammock and they will more than happily answer any questions that you have! Good luck in your journey. Hammock camping should be a great fit for your adventures! Nick
great video, dream hammocks sent me here, i was looking at their sparrow hammock and they thought your video was a good place to send me, looks like you do a lot of hammocking, ok i gotta ask are you from new York? i think i might subscribe. thanks for the review, i will be purchasing one of these within the month.
The Sparrow is a great choice! Randy and Deanna are the best! They’ll make sure all of your questions are answered! Yes, I live in the Hudson Valley. I try to get out as often as I can! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Thanks, love your reviews, especially on the tarp set up. Question regarding your hammock selection. What made you decide Dream hammock vs other modular hammocks on the market, Warbonnet Blackbird XLC and Dutchwear Chameleon?
Dima Habenko all of the hammocks you mentioned are great products and I would recommend them all. At the time I ordered my Thunderbird, the Chameleon was not on the market, so it wasn’t a contender. I was going to get an XLC but decided on a Dream Hammock for the following reasons: 1) I wanted a wider fabric. The XLC is 63” wide. My Thunderbird is 74” and my Sparrow is 67”. Both are in 1.6 HyperD XL. 2) Dream Hammock offered a lot more fabric color and weight options over the XLC. When I purchased my Sparrow, the Chameleon was on the market but I stayed with Dream Hammock, once again, because of the fabric selections. Also, I had a really positive experience with Dream Hammock’s customer service. They’ll work with you and allow you to design your hammock specifically to your individual preferences. Honestly, whichever hammock you decide to go with, I think you’ll be happy. If not, just buy another one! Lol. Hope this helped!!
Triple Nickel Outdoors Thank you. I have very little experience with gathered hammocks, only slept one night in it, swapping my tent for a hammock with friend for one night. I have not put much thought into hammock width, so your reply is helpful. Will look further into it. So far like the new Chameleon due to the endless modularity. Too many questions still...
Dima Habenko watch one of my videos on hammock width. It’ll help out with some questions. Everyone is different, so there’s no 100% right answer to which hammock is the right one... but the ones you mentioned are all good contenders and great quality products!
Mike Rotch Hey thanks for the comment. All of the pieces in my set up are available through the Dream Hammock website. You can design your hammock exactly the way you want it. Good luck!!

the vent he added was custom... if your hammock hasnt been started on yet, you should be able to call them and have it done to yours as well.
