This is badass. So going to study this and probably do this one day in my own bathroom. I love creating acrylic pours, and being able to create my own “stone” 😊is super interesting to me.
Loved it guys! Very informative and explanatory. Even a bit more detail than Stone Coat Countertops gave in their tutorial. I feel more confident going into my double walk-in shower project. Really love the realistic edges on the wall panels. Thx so much from Alberta, Canada! Keep it up guys!
Love seeing videos like this. I would like to see a video on panels going around a bath tub. Since a tub is 5 ft long, I would like to learn how to splice the foam boards together. Thanks.
I used to build homes and done more than a few showers. I asked this question on stone coat's video but they didn't answer. Someone below asked as well, are you just using silicone behind the panel at the shower pan? Black mold would be something I'd be very concerned with. Silicone will not hold up over time in a shower or anywhere else for that matter. I would LOVE to do this but am concerned with your method of install. Not being critical as I really do love this idea but. Thanks!!
Great question. We’ve done showers that are 5 years old that are applied with silicone and we’ve had absolutely no issues. However, you can definitely use other products for adhesion.
Thank you so much for all of the videos. I’ve just come on board with how amazing this is and what a great option now as I’m looking as to what to do with my bathroom walls around the shower surround which will be a Jacuzzi that we’re gonna have a drop in for the tub and then it will be an alcove surrounds that might be 3 feet to 4 feet Deep and from the tub up we probably need about 6 feet. I was wondering if you’ve had anything that you can share with regard to the idea of making smaller, say panels and 4 x 4, foot or smaller and filling the space in between with the EVO glass like tile grout? I think that would be really cool and even the idea of even cutting the foam intoplank strips instead and leaving wider gaps and creating a wallscape using the EVOO glass like grout that would reflect the colors from the tiles? Would love any feedback that you may be able to share and not directly connecting them as one panel, but rather doing something like that almost like a mosaic?
Did you sand with 220 before you put the matte UTC on it or just put the UTC directly on the epoxy after 24 hours? I didn’t see it in the video. I just bought all my materials and am sooo excited!
It’s really had to get a pattern on a vertical wall. There is a thickener that you can use, but I really don’t recommend it, as it changes the color of the resin. We fabricate our shower walls out of foam board while they are flat and then install them. We have several videos on this application. Just search “Shower walls” on my UA-cam channel. Let me know if you have any questions.
When mixing epoxy part A and part B, one to one, is part A and B 1/2 each totaling 1? Like if mixing 1 gallon total, is part A a half of a gallon and part B half a of gallon totaling 1 gallon.?
Great video, the level of detail is amazing! Is the thickness of the foam important for shower walls? Would 1/2" waterproof board (like kerdi or hydroban board)be too thin?
The bottom is going to be against the shower pan so all we do is allow the epoxy to run over and sand smooth if needed. You can apply this to the existing panel on a tub surround, but you may have overhang at the bottoms. It would depend on how much ledge you had on the tub. Hope that made sense. 🤪
@@RK3Designs thank you Rhonda, can you put over the tub part, would it hold up to all that water? Mine need to be replaced and I would love to find something to overlay on it rather than rip it out and replace. Several years ago a painted with one of those kits you and buy and it has worked well but now I need to do it again or do something else.
@@RK3Designs I have samples that are stable for about ten years. Perhaps it's due to the material becoming brittle as well as shrinking. Variations in thickness are helpful as the thinner areas break down the monolithic epoxy to EPS interface. Also setting tiny holes in the substrate can act as a "root system" which doesn't adjust for substrate curl but does increase the shear.
Thank you for posting! I want to do this in my shower. How much would you say that a panel weighs with all the material? What did you use for the bottom part?
The foam board with the epoxy is very light. It would depend on the size of your shower wall, if you used 1/2 in or 1 in foam, but my guess is the panels in this video weighed approximately 10lbs/ea. Most of the showers we do are tile or a prefabbed one.
I don't see the link to the glaze "in the description below"... I thought it was going to be in the description on UA-cam. Is there another description I don't know about? (Thanks, Carol from Nov 2021 Pro Class)
Hey there, If you click on the description you’ll see where it says other videos. You have to do it from a phone or laptop. You can’t see if you’re watching on a TV. Here’s the link for the glaze. ua-cam.com/video/YQb39WmuHFU/v-deo.html
Love all of your videos! Hopefully will make it to a class with you guys one of these days ☺️. I would love to know what is your recommendation for a final coat for countertops since ultimate top coat is unavailable? I know I can wait for UTC to come back in stock but I’m just nervous about it, so do you have any suggestions for extra protection until I can get UTC? Thanks so much…enjoying learning so much from your videos!
Hi Tasha, I'm just another learner, but I'm guessing this is when we might as well do a flood coat (before installation), so the design isn't altered by accident. I'm nervous about applying UTC after the install, and was hoping this video would have a part 3 to show this. Also, I don't see a link to the live-edge-glazing, and I'd really like to see that.
Tasha, I should have the UTC available in the next week or so. Until then, you can use your countertops. If they scratch, that’s ok, you’ll sand them with 220 before you apply the UTC anyway and that will take care of them. You can wait as long as you want before applying the UTC. I actually applied to a countertop that was 3 years old. Sanded, rolled on and the countertop looked brand new. If you look in the video description you’ll see video links. Also, check out the tutorial page on my website for additional still shots and product information. 😊

Plywood would work the same as mdf. Just sand smooth and prime before epoxy. Make sure to seal the back of plywood or mdf with the roll on rubber membrane made for tile showers
Technically you could use the plywood. You’ll have to address the edges because they are layered and you’ll see this if you don’t Bondo and sand smooth. As Brad mentioned above, you’ll want to Red Guard (or similar product) the back of the plywood.
wait....Wait....WAIT....THAT IS NOT THE SAME SHOWER! The shower in part one had an inset with shelves! I feel cheated....I was looking forward to seeing how that was done!!!🤬🤬🤬

Butt seam the pieces together with quickest epoxy with the thickener added.
We actually do our foam board seams a little differently than we do out countertops. We will be doing a video on that process soon. 😊
Not gonna lie. That 2 tier bucket method while y’all poured the epoxy had me a littler nervous.
Those panels turned out amazing! Great job

Do you put silicone on the edges that meet the other walls to help seal them together?
Yes. We do silicone the seams.
Loved this step by step tutorial!!!🥰👏👏👏 Glass door? 🤔
Kind of like glassing a surfboard.
Great idea. I love this. ❤
Looks great! Question.... Being a shower wall, did you mix any of the epoxy thickener to the pour? If not, why?
No we didn’t have to add thickener because we poured them flat.
Can you Epoxy on a outdoor Spa?
How long did you wait for it to dry and cure before you installed it?
Usually 48 hours.
So you fiberglass both sides of the foam board?
Great video! Did you use silicone caulk on the seam to the shower pan?
Thank you Rhonda. Absolutely beautiful, how do you finish the bottom? Can you do a one piece tub and shower?
The bottom is going to be against the shower pan so all we do is allow the epoxy to run over and sand smooth if needed. You can apply this to the existing panel on a tub surround, but you may have overhang at the bottoms. It would depend on how much ledge you had on the tub. Hope that made sense. 🤪

Epoxy can shrink over time. I'd be concerned that the adhesion or material to adhesive layer would fail as the front of these curl.
We have showers that are over 5 years old and we've not had any issues with shrinking or delaminating.

I don’t recommend going over tile but you can definitely do it. 😊
Thank you I thing I will take it out when I start to remodel.
Looks great! Do you have a video showing how to add a shelf for soap, shampoo, etc using the foam board?
Not yet but we are coming out with a video that has a bench built it. Should be out in a couple of weeks.
@@RK3Designs thank you!
I liked the video. One question is when you did the colors I did not see you torch the bubbles out of it. Is this not required?
Love the videos, but how do you make a water tight seal at the shower base? I m going to have a tile pan.
great question
Why do you have to bondo the edges?
Because the exposed edge won’t be smooth without bonding it. The foam will peel and chip.
Would using epoxy instead of silicone be an option this way all 3 panels are essentially one surface?
Are you talking about silicone in the seams? I would use silicone for a fast, very secure seam.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A VIDEO ON A FIBERGLASS SHOWER WITH OUT TAKING IT OUT A STAINLESS SINK AND A VIDEO WITH EPOXY AND SHERRED RECYCLE PLASTIC
Have you ever coated a bench and or the shower tray?
Yes, we’ve done many showers with benches.
HOW FLEXIBLE ARE THESE PANELS ONCE THE EPOXY DRYS??? WILL THE FLEX ENOUGH TO CONTOUR TO THE CURVE OF THE CEILING IF A CHEVY EXPRESS VAN??????
No. The epoxy will not flex that far.

Hey Stone Coat Manufacturing Dept.
A comes before B
therefore: re-Label A,👉🏼B
and re-label B, 👉🏼A
That way makes much more sense.
unfortunately I’m not in charge of the manufacturing, I just use the product. LOL!

I wouldn’t recommend plywood.

what was the reason for using the fiber mesh wont epoxy stick to the foam just as well??
It will, but it adds structural rigidity to the foam.
R K 3 DESIGNS-------HOW FLEXIBLE ARE THESE PANELS ONCE THE EPOXY IS DRY???????
The epoxy wont affect the flexibility of the foam to much. It’s pretty rigid before the epoxy is poured.
What material did you pour the epoxy on? Sorry if I missed you saying that. Looks great 👍
It's in part one video. 1 inch foam board
I like the idea, but not that look,I know ,I can do the way I like it, just a coment.Very good video!👋
I appreciate the feedback for sure!!! Thanks for watching!
Did you use the fiber mesh tape on the front side also
You’ll use it on the side you pour the epoxy finish on not the side you silicone to the wall.
