Either that or he's a vampire. Now that I think of it, it makes perfect sense; he seems good enough at chess to have played it for a few thousand years.
Great video Hikaru, please do more content like this. Especially your insights on the position evaluation at the decision to switch into an endgame or not is very valuable.
I am intrigued by Hikaru's comment on playing tactically vs positionally based on your rating and puzzle rating. Could anyone point me in the right direction to a video that talks more about this?
Hey really enjoyed the analysis, especially on d5. As a 1200 player (3mins, +2), pawn pushes that attack pieces are some the first move I consider, so was interesting to hear how you found it so amazing. One of these videos a week would be great :).
this is good content. I'm not sure if this guy was a sub or donator but I think it would be cool to see you do more analysis on intermediate OTB games in the future
Lol concept chess is boring. It's all strategy not concept man. And you have to choose a strategy you like -- for eg, I play Caro Kann for solid and sometimes insane counter attacks against e4. Then against d4 I play the King's Indian to crush white. That's how you gotta go about it. I don't understand what you meant by 4 levels of Chess.
@@animezoneamv9116 By concept i meant the concept of "4 levels of ..." not concept of chess. 4 levels of chess would be a copy of famous UA-cam cooking show from Epicurious called 4 levels. In the show there is different level of cooks ranging from amateur to actual chef making the same food e.g. pasta & meatballs. Way 4 levels of Chess would work is the same. There would be different level of players ranging from >1000elo to grandmaster playing same opening for example.
This kind of move (d5) is what makes me think chess does have luck. There is no way he planned this move yet it was so obvious once it was his turn and it works so well. Nobody can calculate all possible moves and the pieces end up in almost random positions a few moves down the line. Then you may find yourself in an unrecoverable position all of a sudden. All we can do is minimize this risk by calculating lines but as humans we can only calculate so much.
That's why patience is important. In a blitz game, may not be. Bcoz we don't have time for calculating. However, in classical definitely it should have been spotted by Devon. Should learn more from Paul Charles Morphy, Robert James Fischer(just saying specifically bcoz they are best in that including Botvinnik and Capablanca also fine) and and all other GMs.
Some people may call it luck. Generally, though, we don't refer to a spontaneous play as luck even if it's not foreseen, for example in physical sports. Although a super GM in a classical game would almost certainly have planned it at least 5 moves ahead lol.
It's fine since over say 100 games the amount of time player gets lucky corresponds with his rating. In all speed chess tournaments for example dozens of games are played. Not to mention the better player creates more chances for himself to succeed. This is actually true for most games that aren't a roll of dice, even more so with chess.
Yes, it's just a trade, like what happened in the game. The evaluation didn't really change much after d5 because of this. It was a great tactical move, because if the tactic is missed, then it turns into a huge advantage for black. Below a certain rating, just threatening with tactics gets you wins because the tactics get missed a lot by the opponents at that rating (if the tactics aren't super obvious.) This is why many GM's suggest to just learn tactics up until a certain rating.
d5 is an intuitive move anybody will see even in blitz. If you analyze enough games with stockfish, you start to notice that best moves like pushing pawns in the centre of the board are often missed, so you start to look at those moves all the time.
There is nothing intuitive about d5 when your bishop is under attack. The outcomes as explained by Hikaru are still not obvious when you could just move your bishop away...
why doesn't hikaru make a video about the candidates finale? we could learn from his mistakes but his ego seems too huge to talk about his loss... prob me writing this is a waste of time cuz I don't think he is reading his comments cuz he is such a egoistic human with god complex. def unsub

i was just watching the karjakin video when this came out we are so lucky to have daily hikaru uploads

This was a great video! I think the 1600-1900 range would make for great content personally
The most REAL chess I've actually learned through a video.
Hey hikaru!! Are you listening me? I really like this content hoping for more videos like this.please Make some videos on around 2000 elo players.
this was so helpful because I only play the London and I'm about 1800 online

In the position where black played d5 couldn’t white play rook h1 can not be losing material
