Vengarl is so bad ass, the honorable headless horseman of the Dark Souls universe. The warrior that kept fighting even as he was slain in battle, as if by instinct his body kept going. He’s one of my favorite characters throughout the entire trilogy. We don’t get much backstory about him, only that he’s a warrior from very very long ago in the lands of Forossa.
Vengarl is my favorite NPC in the Dark Souls series, his armor is also my favorite. Those grab attacks are incredibly brutal, worthy of his old reputation.
You don't need to look too far. Much of DS2's original concept art was the foundation for ER, down to the sewers beneath the massive castle perched on a cliff. ER's combat director was none other than the man who saved DS2, so it's pretty clear that ER is the spiritual successor to DS2.

Velgarl is my friend, love the little guy. What a great story too, bloodthirsty warrior is beheaded on the battlefield only to be kept alive by the curse. Head becomes enlightened from spending years in solitude, reflecting; body keeps rampaging on endlessly.

They helped more, were craftier as invaders, and their designs and origins were crazy to deduce half of them as NPCs as they were literally a head, a rat king, a tiny lunatic, a cat, a dragon, a ghost, a memory, a person who was turned to stone, a guy who made ladders just appear, a scorpion man you needed a ring for, a guy with a fake sword, a priestess sociopath, an undead guy, a group of singers.
Too bad Elden Ring adopted the garbage Caster system of DS3 instead of DS2, we lost: Catalyst Infusions Attunement determined Cast Speed No Spell Damage Ring reliance Numerous Catalyst Weapons Numerous Hybrid Catalysts Catalyst Shield Category Interesting Caster Armor Effects Spell Merchant Utility As a Caster main, DS3 and Elden Ring were fairly disappointing compared to DS2. (Though Elden Ring did most of the actual spells better.)

Knowing the staff behind both games, it's almost poetic the tough as nails boss that people complain about having swords with two giant sausage hitboxes is inspired by a Dark Souls II enemy, and that it would be equally complained about. I love it.
I always liked Vengarl and his helmet looked pretty good too. I used to combine it with one of the rings that makes your eyes red, so it looked like the wolf mask had fire coming from its mouth.
I like the subtle motion at 2:46 where Phantom Vengarl swing his sword swiftly to slit your throat, whole Headless Vengarl send your body spinning. Something like this makes Dark Soul 2 have a special place in my games, especially with its world.
Fun Fact; In the original version of Dark Souls 2, Vengarl's body is (inexplicably) in the large final bonfire room after Freja's boss room instead of where it is now in the Scholar of the First Sin edition.
I was really thrilled when I first found his body in the original version, so far away like it had gone on a journey of its own. I can't fathom why they thought it was better to put it ten feet away from his head

Guts had been tricked into causing the ritual that brought Griffith back by fighting against a corrupted prior and apostle named Mozgul, in a battle which involved a mass sacrifice, so the similarities with the Radahn Festival, Mohg, Enir-Ilim and more of Miquella in general are huge.

Could you look for any similarity between bayle and a titanite demon? I think bayle uses one for its animations, mostly the idle and walking, the leg and tail are on nearly the same position and bayle's leg stretched is pretty long, like the titanite demon.

His swords were originally training weapons. Guess FromSoft wrote his script before his item descriptions.
