Libya’s Largest Irrigation System in the World

- Libya has built the world’s largest irrigation project. Called the Great Man-Made River, it utilizes over 1,300 wells and 2,800 kilometers of pipe to transport 6.5 million cubic meters of water a day from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System in southern Libya to the populous cities in the north, including Tripoli and Benghazi, providing 70% of all freshwater used in Libya.

I swear this hasn’t finished because of the civil wars
we heard u the first time
@@dustinpeloquin5678 I’ve literally made one actual comment
No, it’s was completed.
NATO destroy it when the propaganda of liberating Libyan people by overthrowing Gaddafi.
They destroy the canal system in the name of liberating Libya's People 😂
@@nur3094bcs you guys don't deserve to be developed
NATO bombed it
For people who ask, yes it's Gadhafi who started this project but it didn't finish after his death from civil wars and economic disabilities.
Which the country wouldn’t have had they not rebelled against him.
@@benvad9010they didnt rebel it was west funded terrorists
Which is why America wanted him dead. He posed to much of a threat if he united and built Africa to be a prosperous continent that would rival America's influence and develop a economic revolution that would topple the U.S dollar there.
He was a bigger threat than Osama Bin Laden that if he managed to do what he was doing, he could effectively rid the U.S dollar influence from having near full control of the African economy and market.
@@benvad9010Its the west fault for this, now most Libyans statistically want Gaddafi back in power
Kill the man who had a dream for his people 😮 sounds so got damn familiar to me no matter who did it it was the people who turned on him from the seeds of lies and manipulation and mistrust 😢😢

@@Nonebit What evidence do we have that they actually stored equipment there? It's a easy thing to claim retroactively.
Remember that, as part of the drone program, the US military automatically declared all military ages makes killed as combatants unless proved otherwise.
They could easily claim any factory was "storing weapons" on the same basis

This is why Hillary took out Gaddafi
Other reasons they did for
er... why?
Aquifer? Non-renewable?
How much water they have left?
aquifer are renewable, but many country simply have a demand higher than aquifer can refill.
There is as much water in the Saharam aquifer as there is in lake superior
Probably around 500 years
@@2joshua123well that’s the same as saying oil is renewable it may take thousands of years to recover for all we know it takes hundreds of thousands of years
@@2joshua123correct, that's the situation in Saudi Arabia... The demand for fresh water will drain their aquifer reserves in the next 10 years. Then they'll be left with costly desalination for 70% of fresh water supply.
It was build during Gaddafi, don't forget to mention facts, Gaddafi was great man and leader of his nation
And destroyed by NATO, they even bombed the factories that make the pipes
It was proved that this system would waste money, destroy resources, and use up all water in the aquifer, causing great environmental crisis. Gaddafi was not a great man, like the people in this comment section say he was. They’re all Americans, tortured by a well developed system, Failed by their education system, and a disappointment to their nation. Gaddafi wanted to build this system to associate his name & image with prosperity. He knew it wouldn’t work, and probably knew it wouldn’t be finished in his lifetime. Meaning its failure wouldn’t be his problem.
I studied how to become a dictator for quite a while. Muammar Gaddafi was a great example, because he deprived his people of education and divided them by sex. He had a ring of women which were presented as soldiers…he raped them often. You don’t know what you’re talking about, and I recommend you kindly remove your comment.
and US came and bombed it all
You mean France do some research.

It’s so sad what happened to Libya 🇱🇾 Projects Libya now is in a continual Civil War and slave trade Omar Qaddafi did so much for the Libyan people
Muamer* who is Omar
Civil war is over 3 years ago
when they opened up the valves and let the water flow, hugh chunks of the mains in the towns burst.
How long would it take until thise aquafers run dry? Or do they get replenished quickly emough?
Allegedly it was enough to sustain libya for 1000 years. No clue how accurate that is.
They are renewable
Weird to see people still coping about Gaddafi's death 12 years ago.
He was Africa’s last hope. Maybe China can fix that, but they don’t seem to interested in promoting the revolution
More people, more potential for major problems. It’s not crazy to think a nuclear war could break out.
Thanks to Kaddafy
Americans destroyed it actually.
Libyans murdered Gaddafi and now have to live in pains and sufférimgs
More like the CIA used their social media branch (aka Facebook, Twitter etc) to incite a civil war. It's really convenient if you can control what people see 24/7. People won't notice and you can make them believe anything.
Draining underground aquifers really went well for instance in Saudi Arabia…
The Nibian Aquifer contains about 10% of the worlds fresh water supply.
Was preaty much finished. Also one of the first things americans bombed
Turn off those walls could be made from MrBeast
wait, isn't that what Gaddafi tried to build before ousted??
🤔
Gaddafi also tried to use Gold for oil purchase, instead of USD
😅
You think would use that for CROPS and use sea water desalination for the cities.
you can’t use desalination on a mass scale. Plus, NATO bombed it and murdered Gaddafi plus a few hundred thousand people, so it’ll never happen
They should thank gadaffi for this.
Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Chad rely on it. I expect a deep impact way sooner. Should unite and build a Egypt, Libya and Sudan Power and Desalination Plants like The Ras Al-Khair Power and Desalination Plant. Chad being land lock as they are can not do this themselves. Saudi Arabia could step up and help out in this.
USA: Nuh uh
shouldn't it be easier to desalinating the water from the sea? since their major cities are at the coast
desalination can’t be done on a large scale. Plus this was years ago, before NATO bombed this and murdered a few thousand people + Gaddafi
Wouldn’t this just dry up the awuifer
I saw a show saying just that a few years ago.
In like 500 years it would

Did this cause the recent floods
This was 10 years ago, before NATO bombed it and killed many people
This water is not renewable, due to dry conditions in the desert-area. Whe it's empty the system will collapse. These vast amounts of water contributes to the rise in sea-level.
Lmfao no it doesn't
Aquifers are renewable you spoon. It lasts for 1000 years. Well not anymore, NATO bombed it
Hi Libia, can you connect it so the water comes in the ocean? Hopefully my foundation will stop rotting if the groundwater level rises, thank you

Before Nato bombed and destroyed them!
Got bombed by NATO in 2012.
Bro how are they going to build this, they havent got any money and like 80% of their cities are not controlled by the government anymore 😂
This project was in building since the 20 century or the at the end of 20 century any ways ghaddafi was at power libya was one nation one power one dream and ghaddafi started building it to help people who doesn't have water,if this project isn't here today, libya would have been on a water shortage there, anyways that's how ghaddafi saved us in future
You laugh because you jealous of them building such a project.
That so called tyrant gaddafi😢
about that….
Now libiya realise that how good USA is
Other way around. Like the rest of the world, they realised the tyranny of the USA. 70% of people say the US is the greatest threat to world peace.
That is going to destroy the ground water tables.
I wonder how many Black people did they capture slave to do the work?
Nato: 😏
"Is Building"
Isn't it cheaper to desalinate sea water using solar heat right there on the shore, than to build the hundreds kilometers channels exhausting natural fresh water reservoirs?
Desalination is not a good alternative even today. This was made in the 80's when the technology was even further behind.
