    A serial entrepreneur, I love that! I have a leather goods business and have recently become interested in starting a candle business as well. I've been told by some people that I'm giving up leather, which is simply not true. Why is it so bad to enjoy more than one thing? I love candles and I'm always giving Bath & Body Works my money, I might as well try making candles myself. I know where they will sell, I think it's worth trying anyway.

I use the Aura’s too, so this is perfect. I play the back and forth game pouring wax into my pitcher too. We need to get together and devise a melting pot the size of the Soylite LG that will heat to the exact temp and have a setting to disperse the exact amount of wax you need. I’ve seen a much smaller version. But it must also be affordable. Yahh! Thank you, Ashley! I now have notes in my iPad. I hope your candle biz is going like gang busters!! Um, OK, were you serious when you said you’d already poured 200 candles?! I found another company that sells the Aura too, which is awesome. I bought my first presto pot from Etsy, but the little round knob was hot as blazes!! So, I purchased a Soylite with the lever which extends 4-5 inches from the pot…..no more burned fingers! I used to be in the fear camp of my believing my FO would burn off at a high temp until……I watched a vid by Sixteen Seventeen. Vanessa, Owner of Sixteen Seventeen calmly stated that was a myth. So, I tested it and she’s right! I use Coconut blend waxes and Coconut wax likes high temps 215- 220 and smaller wicks (for those who use cotton wicks). So, I pour between 215-220, b/c the minute you pour, wax begins to cool, right? I tested immediately adding FO, stirred for about 15-20 seconds (the FO binds with the hot wax quicker) and pour into my vessels. The level of fragrance I get from my candles for CT & HT is OFF THE CHARTS! So…..after testing Vanessa’s theory re: no FO burn off, I now use the same method every time and have killer HT! If anyone reading this uses Coconut blends I highly suggest you check out Sixteen/ Seventeen on YT. Ashley, I just ordered the Smoked Oud and after reading the reviews it sounds like a fragrance I would love! Thank you so much for the suggestion! Thank you for this video as well! I always love watching your vids. Honey, you are beautiful on your worst days, so don’t even sweat it! Thanks Ladybug! 1. Do you cure the whole 2 weeks uncovered or do you put the lid on after 24 hours?

      I cure them in the boxes that they came in. No lid but I keep like scents together to cure. For the tins I usually use .03/.625 either flat or a booster and in some cases, a different size entirely. Testing is the best way to figure that out!

    Thank you for Sharing how you make candles 🕯, I just made my first 3 candles last week. They actually turned out pretty well. I had received one of those small kits as a gift from one of my children. The only thing that seemed a little weird was the center kinda sunk in a little bit. ( I don’t know all of the Terminology yet , lol ) I loved the fragrances I ordered off Amazon & My Candles actually smell great. I didn’t wait the 2 weeks 😉. I started watching you to see who I should order from? Also a Newbie I don’t know how much I should or should not pay for Fragrance? Those crackle wood wicks seem really cool to. I was thinking about looking at the Wooden Wick co., since you said they had worked on Customer Service? Or should I just stick with Amazon for now, since I’m NO WAY even close yet to making some to sell 🥴Thanks for your time and I’m gonna watch some more of your Videos, xo Susan from Alabama

      Hi Susan! Each wax is going to be different with cure times. I would suggest if you keep making candles to find suppliers outside of amazon. Likely those products are going to be more of a one-off, make as a hobby style of ingredients where candle suppliers (which you can google) will be a bit better suited for the long haul if you decide to keep making candles, which you should! Last time I made candles I thought I portioned it out to fit the vessels on hand but ended up with leftover wax to pour four more candles ?? So my question is, if I need to make two candles with an 8oz fill each at 10% FO, do I pour 16oz of wax in the pouring pitcher and add 1.6oz of FO? Thank you to anyone that can help me! Also, thank you for the spoon holder recommendation, it’s literally perfect.

    • @MarieEdwardsRae
      @MarieEdwardsRae 3 роки тому +1

      It took a minute for me too, with my equation and maybe someone has another way, but with 2 vessels that fills to 8 oz. Multiply the 8 * 2= 16 oz
      16 * .10= 1.6 oz of fragrance
      16 - 1.6= 14.4 oz of wax

      I don't think it matters with the lid only because the HT/CT won't be changed with the makeup of the candle, the temps make more of a difference with that than the lid. It does smell stronger with a lid with CT but thats temporary.

    8:12 wait ok so this might be a really dumb question but, so say you’re doing 10% FO load per lb of wax, if you fill your pouring pitcher to 48 ounces of wax, would you triple the amount of FO as well? or would you still only pour 1oz of FO into it.

    • @UpsideGoodsCo
      @UpsideGoodsCo  2 роки тому

      Not a dumb question, but I'm not sure I'm following. To make it easy, I pour 12oz candles. If I were to use 10% FO for that amount of wax, my FO to pour (using ounces) is 1.2 ounces. A pound of wax is a bit more so I break everything into ounces and make it as simple as I can!

    Hi Ashley, new candle maker here, when using a higher percentage of FO let’s say 10% will that contribute to your flame dancing?

      It could! It could also be the wick and where you have the candle in your home. Is there a draft? Is the vessel hot? All these are things to be watching as you burn through, then adjust!

      I’ve purchased wicks from Maksey, is there any other wicks you like that have been successful from other candle companies?

    Hi Ashley, are most fragrance oils made with essential oils? I would like to start making candles out of my home but I have 3 dogs and want to make sure it wouldn’t be toxic to my dogs.

      Most are made with synthetic oils unless they are just marketed as essential oils. They are very different as the synthetic are made in a lab. I would look into it though because there are positives and negatives to both offerings with regards to toxicity to dogs and humans alike!

    Do you keep your melters out all the time?

      No, I hide them when I’m not pouring. But they are often out 🤣
