The custodian of this form lived in Australia for a while. I have seen this form in the original, and your form, though technically difficult as it is, is different to that. Recognise-able but different. The key, as I’m sure you know, is the pulse of chi attained through the alternating yin and yang in the movements. Love your style, though I couldn’t get that low (in my 60s now).
Actually, casting my mind back 30 odd years I did see Lohan played like your form. It was a fitness/flexible variant. The “martial” form was more upright and flowing. That is the form I practice, and prefer. I apologise for leaping in to criticise - it’s too easy to do that online. You’ve probably seen it, but another Qi Gong form - Sui Lohan Qi Gong is a worthwhile companion form.
?!? Am I seeing things? Is it the video or my phone? But does anyone else see "circles or waves" of energy or some kind of light coming from behind him( at 4:30,). ??? Someone please explain 🙏
Thank you for your observation and comment! 😊 The perception of energy or light waves during qigong practice can vary from person to person. While some individuals may experience visual phenomena or sensations of energy flow, these experiences are highly subjective and personal. They can be influenced by factors such as lighting, camera effects, and individual interpretations. In qigong, practitioners often focus on cultivating and harnessing their internal energy, also known as qi. These practices aim to promote physical, mental, and energetic well-being. The experiences individuals have during qigong can be deeply personal and may differ among practitioners. If you're interested in exploring more about these phenomena, I encourage you to engage with other viewers who may have had similar experiences to share their perspectives. It's fascinating to hear different accounts and interpretations. Thank you for watching the video and taking the time to share your thoughts! 🙏 #Qigong #EnergyFlow #PersonalExperiences
sorry, but I don't think you will find any such reference in the Pali Canon or that the historical buddha created any kind of yoga per se. One of the great escape phrases in reference to ancient teachings is to say that it is only an 'oral tradition'. This woman's stretching is good and looks like it borrows from a number of sources for the forms and movement - but Buddha's Yoga, I don't think so...
I'd like to read and learn more about the Yoga practise that the description mentions is documented in the Pali Canon - could you provide a reference? Which Pitaka? Which Nikaya? Which discourse? Many thanks!
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any further questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with, please let me know. I'm here to help! #Assistance #Support

Oh Wow! Dont see this set too often! I learned a version of it back in the mid 1990's. It's part of a group of 4 Qigong sets from the Choy Lay Fut style. Its doubtful that this exact sequence goes all the way back to Tao Mo, but certainly this type of sequential qigong does.
"The Buddha over 2500 years ago created a Yoga practice as documented in the Pali Canon 29BC the earliest book on the Buddha." Where is this to be found? It might be more of a myth than a reality. 🙏
An Indian here and I have never heard or read of the Buddha creating a Yoga practice. What he created was mindfulness and proper meditation called Vipassana meditation. These 18 forms of exercise were created by Bodhidharma, a Buddhist Dharma preacher, based on an ancient Indian martial art Kalariyapattu, to build the strength and stamina of the Shaolin monks so that they practice proper meditation and defend themselves from the robbers that raided the Shaolin temple from time to time.
I think thats an impossible question to answer. My old teacher the Keeper said the 18 Lohan has to keep evolving or it will died out. I would imagine the original one would have looked a lot more like Yoga that Kung fu.
Chen Yong Fa (great grandson). He was born in 1951. Fifth generation and current "guardian of style". (Jerng Mun Yun) My teacher is dissipulo of Chen Yong Fa. The form you show is not the original, it has many movements that do not exist in the original that Chen Yong Fa teaches. Where did your teacher come from Luohan Qi Kung?? Your form does not have the same fluidity as that of Chen Yong Fa, you have a different conception of the movements and their times. In UA-cam there are some differences in the way different people and teachers show. but yours is the most different I've seen. Your teacher comes from another family maybe? But anyway the execution of the way that you do is very good, it is known that you know
ok I understand. You have given me a good explanation, thank you. It is a different lineage than the one I practice. It is the same Luohan Qi Kung, but from another lineage. It is interesting the marked differences that exist in the same way the 18 palms of Buddha, in the different lineages. Anyway, as I said, Niel executes the form quite well, according to his lineage, it shows. It looks very concentrated. It would be interesting if Niel could study the form 18 palms of Buddha, of the Chan family lineage, with some disciple of chen yon fa. and so he could tell us what are the differences between lineages of Choy Lee Fut and Luohan Qi Kung. In my case, I will finish studying the forms in my Luohan Qi Kung lineage and then I would like to see the differences of other lineages and teachers. since all teachers contribute to knowledge. regards
Francesc Villarroya it’s the same form, there are different ways to express it. This depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. You can practice for chi development, meditation or physical development.
Lohan Martial Arts chan yeong fa, direct family chan don’t think the same. Is only one way to move and these movement includes all work. I still thinking that this is not the original form.
Francesc Villarroya I don’t think anyone has the original form that the Bodhidharma created. I have learnt 3 version of this from 3 CLF masters. The manuscripts are similar. I have an original CLF manuscript for this written by Chan Yiu Chi, this is different to the one in this video and the one taught by the Chan family in Australia.
To Chris , every joint in the body gets a workout , not to mentioned the various meridian channels get a good stretch , blood circulating , moving, gathering chi. So what your is your Idea Chris?
This looks like it is being performed by someone who has no idea how the qigong is properly done, its underlying principals, or what it is even supposed to do and develop...so they grafted modern Yoga in, and just did everything like that. Btw, this is not a secret form that only they have. It's a common Qigong found in the Choy Lay Fut/Cai Li Fo style of Kung Fu. Lots of good schools teaching that art. There are 3 more companion sets to this one, also taught in Choy Lay Fut.
As a westerner who spent many years in China, I can only disagree. Clearly you have only been exposed to what can be found on youtube by english search queries... Mr. Wilcott exhibits better understanding of general "Chinese" movement principles than a great majority of actual Chinese people... Call back when you can do a proper wall-squat.
To vanishing nomad...just because this qigong form is not of common variety , doesn't mean that the principles of qigong is not adhered to. In fact this Lohan form contains the essence of qigong. Tai chi is a form of moving qigong. The wudang priests for instance, sought out and incotporated forms from different masters and from different regions o China. And so did the Shaolin monks . Including yoga asanas. Performed correctly , qigong incorporates , elongating the spine, rotating all major joints , activating the dantian . Stretching to activate meridians. This form incorporates all of the above attributes. Can you see them in this form ?
Very nice performance! Although it is different version than I am training, but it has all the characteristics of the 18 Luohan! This form is developed to strengthen the body and to increase the energy flow through the meridians. A different way of performing the techniques is not important, it’s all about understanding the purpose behind them. To Nomad, it seems this man knows exactly what he is doing

what is lohan?
Lohan is a form of qigong.
I think it's the Chinese word for Arhat. I think it means "enlightened one". Some root of Shaolin Kung Fu. You can look up Luohan
a Luohan is an "arhat" or disciple of Buddha who is worthy. That's the literal translation
To me this looks like derivative form.
Possibly it is, as it's over 1500 years old how could it not be?
