To me the mop monster thing represents the mans fears. At the beginning, he keeps attempting to run away from them, which only results in them taking control of him. Only when he finds the courage to confront them and "look them in the eyes" does he make peace with them. This heightened understanding allows him to see the perspective that everyone else is battling their own mop monster fears

I loved that final scene. So unexpected.
This video gave a darker feeling to the song, but I really dig it. Seem like it has a deeper meaning, way deeper than I thought. Awesome!
