  • FINALLY! AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS WE HAD AN INCREDIBLE DIVE ON ONE OF THE NORTHEAST'S PREMIER WRECKS. THE SS OREGON A VERY LARGE PASSENGER VESSEL THAT SANK IN 1886! WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ABOVE AVERAGE VIZ AS WELL.

Good video, ships 518 feet long, she sank 13 miles south of morchies Inlet, the max sand depth 130 fsw with the average deck depth 110 fsw I really enjoyed the video of the 3 cylinder compound engine the top of the engine at 85 fsw, I removed 4 of the oiler valves on the top of the engine, the crew oilers would oil them hourly. I would like to see more of the engine in detail if you ever film it again, there was an interesting article in an english magazine when she was built, which I have someplace describing the entire ship and the comments on the steering quadrant, it said the balance was so precise that the quadrants could be moved by hand, but it was powered by a small steam engine thanks again for the video brings back memories, thanks

I started diving back in 1989 and dove with a good friend all through college, mainly nighttime and beach dives, a couple wrecks. Of course life interceded, had to start a career, got married and had kids and I never got around to my two favorite wrecks off the South Shore (this one) and The San Diego. I'm now doing skills refresher while my wife gets certified and I'm starting to have those dreams of diving this wreck like Krakauer had of climbing Mt. Everest.
This video is beautiful. I attribute that to the wonderful visibility that you have for this dive

The thing that always blows me away is the incredible quality and durability of things made in those days. I've seen 100 year old steam engines restored and running like the day they were built.

Those long comb jellies always swim by right before they give you that hot little sensation on your face, and then it’s too late.

Delightfully relaxed video and trip through the "Oregon". Regarding the steam engine, one shot of WD40 and I'll bet that sucker would turn right up!

Also, in her day, the Oregon was the fastest ship on the Atlantic.
