Omg that video edit for Sponsor Kay was spot on. I thought you had a relative visiting and they accidentally popped their head in while you were filming or something 😅
Also be sure to allow enough time! Start decluttering and you will find a ton of dust. I never declutter without a Swiffer and a vacuum cleaner close at hand. The bigger the project, the more time you need. Do your homework in advance-like Googling the hours of the donation center you’re planning to bring your stuff to, so all those items don’t ride around in the car with you for the next month. 😀
Toilet paper and a shirt 🤣 I laughed so much. I am a persistent declutterer but how I wish I could survive with just loo roll and a shirt! Great advice as always, thank you Kay ✨
I love when Sponsored Kay appears. I also love that her very presence is a a thumbs up for the sponsor! and I have definitely been guilty of some of these things. I need to put Buy Nothing and fb market into use.
Great video! I declutter all the time. Just part of my daily routines around the house. For me it is calming when I do my laundry, I check through what is in the closet before I add the clean clothes to see if I need to donate some of the stuff that was not dirty. I do it in the bathroom, bedroom, closets and pantry as I access those areas. Just a few minutes to check and feel accomplished!
Yes my donations are in a box, in the closet, ready to go. However, I only take mine once a year now. Sometimes I even find a way to regift something in the box so I don't rush to take it in to the donation place. As long as I take it once a year, then I am happy.
Sponsored Kay cracks me up 😂 also thank you for the reminder that decluttering and organizing is never “done” and we must continue to do this especially as we move into different life phases.
Thanks for this video, Kay! I recently moved and have been organizing, and I've been hard on myself because my walk in storage closet is not pinterest perfect. It is good enough for me, and it's functional for me. Time to stop being hard on myself.
Well done - I can relate to wanting that picot perfect look!! I'm done thinking what I want for my upcoming move (winter?) and the more I clean and purge, the nice this old house looks (and the more I seewhat looks awful, lol!!) Being kind to ourselves, is so important - I like the reminder, 'I wouldn't say that to a friend!!'
I recently asked a friend to help with my bedroom that had gotten out of control. Everywhere else was good, but I can close my bedroom door and no one is the wiser to the horrors inside. 😅 It really helped to divide and conquer, to have someone to bounce ideas off of and just to have some company! That's my favorite tip from this video.
I’m merging two households together. Pray for me. I’m not scared but I did already buy shelves before I start. All those boxes to unpack. They gotta go somewhere. Craftroom reorg first on the list. Thanks for this video to get me started! I shall do better!
Great tips. I would really struggle with the last one tho. I like to be in charge of decluttering & organising & could never have anyone telling me what to do. The one about not buying containers etc until you’ve decluttered /organised is a great tip. So many times I’ve been tempted to buy stuff from Amazon & John Lewis etc & then realised that the stuff I may not even fit them.
I've been keeping a paper bag or box available for decluttered items for when I see things I know I definitely no longer want. Then once it's full I get rid of it!
Good to know that works for you, because I like that idea and I wanted to do that too, but I kept pulling items back out and keeping them. Eeek. I need a no nonsense helper. Lol.
I keep a folding laundry tote in my closet, so that if I see something I know I won't wear again, or put something on that doesn't fit well, or looks bad, I take it off, and immediately put it into that tote. When the tote is full, off to the donation center it goes. We keep a box in the hall closet for household stuff, and do the same thing. Except right now, it's overflowing. 🤦🏼♀️
What you said about striving for perfection... so true. I have an appreciation for the IKEA catalogs. They often stage the rooms in their ads with toys strewn about, food half-eaten, towel draped here or there. Trying to make it look more reminiscent of life rather than a picture perfect moment. I mean, it is still gorgeous, just easier to picture oneself living in the space.
I love having open cabinets. I have an all in one "command center" for dishes that includes my microwave, glasses and cups, etc.. pretty much everything you need for food right there. Silverware is directly across, so everything is just at the fingertips.
Thank you for this video. I recently went to clean out and organize under the bathroom sink(which is tiny) I seen there was a very bad leak rotting dry wall. Plumbers came and fixed it. It took 2 weeks to complete! Now they are done I am not motivated to put the stuff back. I bought organization bins I don't know why I feel stuck.
Good job discovering the leak!! Have you decided what you want to/ need to store under there? Maybe set up those items in the container on a counter, and great it out first? One fun Simple (Feng) Shui tip is put salt in a small bowl (sea salt if you can) and leave 24 hours to refresh the energy in an area - then dump the salt outside (on the ground our in the trash!) Within 24 hours.
This is the first time I’ve seen sponsored Kaye. She is so cute. I love the idea of her. Nice edit. Now…about that stuff in the closet…I’ll give my husband a box of stuff for Goodwill and he puts it in the garage until he’s ready to take it. My task now is to encourage him to take it right to the car. Once he gets it in the car he gets it to the donation center.
OMG That was so cute having yourself interrupt your video 📹 I have made that mistake of buying organizing containers because I liked them and now they sit stacked in my closet.
I have a (neatly organized) pile of donation stuff sitting in my unused dining room. Most of it has been there for TWO years! Ugh. So easy to ignore when it's mostly hidden. Thanks for reminding me to stop hiding it and get rid of it...SOON. 😄
I get rid of stuff frequently. one thing that helps is I have an "out-basket" beside my door so I throw my donation bags in there, so that I easily remember to bring it out to the car. (I think I got that tip from Kay lol)
I try to declutter daily, well kinda. I have a few baskets around the house like one by my dresser and one in my laundry room. As I am cleaning or doing laundry and see things I don’t need I put them the basket. When basket is full I take it to goodwill. That is usually like once a month or every other month. 💜🍃💜🍃💜🍃💜🍃💜
"You're living, you're laughing, you're loving!" Gaha, love that line and I'm only a minute in. 8 minutes in - LOVE Sponsored K, and love your video style. I feel like we'd be real life bff's because I def ride the same brain wavelength as you lol. I didn't know you could learn so many new things on Skillshare! Cool!
I learned to call my mom to help me declutter and organize. She great at it and the outside perspective helps a lot. We turn on some oldie and usually end up watching a movie by the end.
Oo, donation pile put away. That is me 🤦♀️ lol! I've since brought them out so they are "more ready" haha! Also, for decluttering, I'd say, give yourself emotional time. Sometimes we're not ready to let go, so put it in a pending box and revisit it. This helps me to not get bogged down with the maybes and instead focus on the definitely no items (or trash haha!) Happy organizing/decluttering!
When I open a drawer or cabinet or closet, and it’s a bit messy (cluttered), I take care of it right then. Five mins for a drawer, 5-10 mins for each shelf of a linen closet, 10 mins for a clothes closet. It’s not a major overhaul , but a tidying up.
I legit thought that I missed that you had an identical, haha! I so appreciated these tips, particularly the parts about not being too hard on myself and choosing organization methods that fit my needs and lifestyle.
I think the Kon Mari craze made people think it one and done! Not! We bring new things in so old things need to go out and habits & preferences change and sometimes you just don’t use something’s anymore etc. great video 👍👍👍
I've been so guiltily of 5 - and don't even have a handy closet to tick the bags in!! That's on my 'don't keep doing this!' list - just loaded a couple of things to drop off tomorrow when I'm doing another errand!! And sent some glasses home with a friend - who grumbled a bit because she's also working on purging- and I know she likes blue! (Hee hee - she did weed out two of the 7 - which I'll add to my donations.
Everything that you talked about on organizing today that was me we had decided on selling our house which we had been in over 20 years and I accumulated a lot and I had to make a drastic move to get everything packed up so that we could move on and moved out of town it was very hard for me to give up a lot of things whole lot of things that I had I just said I was going to to donate but I wind up throwing it in the trash nice stuff and those were awesome tips thank you
Loved your editing skills!! So fun and cute. Also, love Facebook Buy Nothing groups. They are more sustainable than donating since they usually get used!
I think being realistic is key just like you said. I used to declutter and make it very aestheticianlly pleasing but not realistic. Before I knew it I had a mess because the system did not work for me.
I wish you would do a video that expands on your last point. When is it time to hire a professional, and if you do, what should you expect. Just like any profession there are good ones and not so good ones. It's pretty easy to be overwhelmed by the whole thing. If you hire a professional, what is a realistic budget you should have when you hire someone? Will they help you if you want to sell your clutter in a yard sale? Maybe I watched too many episodes of Clean House but a Niecey Nash sure seems like they would help. Maybe you have done this video and I am missing it.
I have an ongoing donation bag in my bedroom as soon as it is full it goes into my car and it goes to the donation centre the first time I pass one. This means as soon as it’s ready to go it is moved out. I also try to maintain the one in one out method. I try to repurpose strong containers from other things to use as organising containers.
Sponsor Kay is the best! 🤣👍🏻 I have a box in front of my entrance door and whenever I see something I want to declutter I put it in there. Once it's full I bag it up and donate it. ☺️ Also, my cousin and his fiance are moving and I told his fiance your tip about decluttering and using what you have first and she loved it. 😁
You look great! (as always) and all your plants look amazing today! But I'm so fantastic at #3! OMG YES! I love Kay creeping on Kay! Sponsored Kay is the best! I want to make ads like you, but I don't think I'll be as good... You did a stupendous job on your bookshelves! I ordered a threadUp bag to send them my clothes for them to do the pictures and posting and stuff for me. They'll send what they won't take back and we'll post that stuff. It will all be gone soon! Open shelving is not for me. That is so awesome about your personal trainer!!
I have another suggestion for donations. Check with your local groups that works with refugees. They’ll have a list of what is needed, including cleaning supplies, health products, clothing, and foods. For non-perishable foods, consider food pantries. Old sheets and blankets: call your local pet shelter.
These are genuinely useful! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. This is one of the only organizing tips videos that I feel I can actually apply. Also, you are too cute with your sponsorship editing. ❤
Team spice drawer all the way - but I’m fine with eclectic jars - at this point I buy replacement spices from the bulk section and fill as needed - totally alphabetize
Lots of great ideas. Asking for help is a biggy for me. I feel like I wasn't born with that gene and should have been, but it's something I'm really trying to work on.
We had a new kitchen installed in May ... it was finally completed in June. In my lounge room I still have the old kitchen table ( needs to be sold on market place) covered in stuff that needs to be donated. Can't take pictures of the table, cause the donations are all over it!!!! 🤔😖🤯🤦♀️🤷♀️

Nope they’ll sit in the living room for months cause your day off is a day that they’re closed! But when you make that trip you get a room back!
Sponsor Kay - cute idea!
You are just an amazingly adorable human. Thank you for giving me permission to have a not-perfectly organized space ☺️
Toilet paper and a shirt 🤣 I laughed so much. I am a persistent declutterer but how I wish I could survive with just loo roll and a shirt! Great advice as always, thank you Kay ✨

and I have definitely been guilty of some of these things. I need to put Buy Nothing and fb market into use.
I always measure the area first, and than research products that I need in that tight space and yes because it’s a small and area in my place.

Great tips.

Ikea catalogs have been one of my preferred things to skim for inspiration for years. I think their merchandising and aesthetic is absolute genius.
OMGosh I LOVE it when theaterical Kay comes out for the ads❤️
I love Sponser Kay and especially her neat glasses!! 👓
Great tips, too.
That was the cutest sponsor transition I've EVER SEEN!!!
VERY CLEVER EDITING 👏. SkillShare, take note. 👌 Well done.

Sponsor Kay is so fun! I actually watched the segment. Love your advice.
Yes to dynamic lives and needing to decluttering more than once! What a great sponsored content edit! And I promise I won’t beat myself up anymore!

Wow that was great so true ty
I love both Kay's!!! LOL So creative
Sponsor Kay bit was hilarious. And loved the new don'ts of decluttering/ organization angle.

Great tips and advice. Thank you for sharing
These suggestions should be so intuitive, but, at least for me, they are not. Thanks for keeping me headed in the right direction.
I have another suggestion for donations. Check with your local groups that works with refugees. They’ll have a list of what is needed, including cleaning supplies, health products, clothing, and foods.
For non-perishable foods, consider food pantries.
Old sheets and blankets: call your local pet shelter.

🤦🏼♀️ so guilty of the closet with Goodwill & donation concern in the garage. 😳😭🤪
👋🏻 Kay - it looks so bad decluttering is so hard ! 😖😖😖😞😞😞😞😞
I'm very guilty of buying organizing products before finishing the job. Right now I'm putting together a bag of them to send to the thrift store 🤣
This teaching‼️‼️👍👍👍
I just got my first Lazy Susan (Tina Turner) from 3,000 miles away in the United States of America. 4 dollars... fantastic!
Tina Turner is the best name for a lazy Susan omg 😆
Simply the best... better than all the rest.
Omg you win the comments LMAOOOO
Sponsored Kay was fun:)
.... but when I declutter THEN I want the things I got rid of. Why can't I just keep an organized attic, with things kept in categories!!
The one category I get stuck on trying to declutter is baskets, bins and containers. 😣 All my logic goes out the window. I need help.
Just found your channel. You're adorable and do a great job!
Thank you so much!!
You need toilet paper and a shirt!, you crack me up.
We had a new kitchen installed in May ... it was finally completed in June. In my lounge room I still have the old kitchen table ( needs to be sold on market place) covered in stuff that needs to be donated. Can't take pictures of the table, cause the donations are all over it!!!! 🤔😖🤯🤦♀️🤷♀️
It’s tough! You got this though!!!
This was so cute!!! yes you killed it!!😀
Put it on the Facebook 😊
OMG Sponsored-Kay is adorable lol
Cute 😂 .. you got me! I really thought it was another person and had to rewind to take a closer look.
I'm good with the first tips but the last one trips me up .. NOT because i don't ask for help .. but because i DO ask for help but nobody wants to help. With no family, close friends or neighbors or support system, i ask people i come across in daily life if they know anyone to help .. and they all say 'no, if i did i would have them clean MY house'
Our country has an epidemic of people who just dont want to work!
You need a pro! We love mess!
I feel attacked as I'm literally facing a closet door which has a box of donations on the floor... 😂
My donation has been in my car for at least six months! Also, have you been watching Peter McKinnon? He has Squarespace Pete do his ads and they are funny too!
I haven’t watched Peter in like a year but maybe I’ll have to catch up! He’s so awesome Squarespace Pete 🤣 I’m dead
Hahaha I have donation stuff in my car for a couple months now 🤣😪🤦♀️
My donations stay in my trunk for months lol
My husband held onto a donation box for 2 years 😅
O O F
