- In this video I get a bit out of my comfort zone and shear three alpacas. I’m also shearing a few Scottish mule hoggets here too.
I’ve never shorn alpacas before so go easy on me! Also the blades I had on my cordless shears maybe weren’t perfect for the job but we got there.
Thanks for watching and please take a second to click the subscribe button.
I’ve added links for some of the gear I use below.

One of my favorite channels is Right Choice Shearing. Two Texas girls who shear a lot of alpacas (also sheep) and have it down to a science. This was great fun to watch, Cammy, you did a great job. A gorgeous walking stick, too!
I loved The Alpaca Game!!
😅😂😂😂
Cheers Pablo!! Good morning alpaca Fans!!!
The Sheep Game when shearing alpaca many use a hood as a blindfold for calmer shearing and also more oil on blades as it is a dryer fleece.
Great tips Michelle! Hopefully i won’t need to do it again but if u do i’ll try that!
Your speech is.more clear than others I watched this morning. Thanks.
That was hilarious. Bad words were never far away. I am watching too many of your videos, Cammy, but I’m addicted now. Stop trying too hard with the accent. To me it’s welcome home craic. 💙🏴
James does a great job handling those alpacas!
That was the first time I ever saw an alpaca sheared like that. Great job!!
Loved watching you have a go at the alpacas, thanks for taking us along. 😳
Thanks Liz, jut try to avoid getting kicked mostly!
I know nothing about technique but it was quite fun to watch. I really enjoy your sheep shearing videos. Thanks for sharing your adventure in shearing all animals that need shearing!
I love alpaca wool, it's the softest! Your alpaca shearing is much better than mine, since I've never sheared anything! One channel I watch calls alpacas donkey poodles!
That was the funniest thing ever and I can say it’s not the way most do Alpacas!
Always have a bit of fun with James, I've seen a few different ways to shear alpacas, but that was the best way I knew.
Very good on the alpacas. I was amazed that the first one did not struggle very much at all. However some alpacas are not that chilled out and they need restraining. I wish ours were that quiet.
I won’t be making a career out of it Chris 😂. We got lucky with these 3! 😃
That walking stick is beautiful. Great job on those alpacas. Such a funny video. Thanks for that.
Aye the guys that make the sticks are very skilful. Have shorn a few more alpacas since so hopefully getting the hang of them 😂
I love subtitles!!! Thank you!🥰🥰🥰
Made me chuckle seeing them trying to reason with the Alpacas. But you did a good job on the shearing given that they were a bit kicky!
Thanks Mags! Was fun having a go!
Great video watching three men wrestering with the alpacas while shearing them made me laugh cheered me up no end keep up the good work but watch your back and no one getting kicked in the wedding vegetables 👍👍👍🤣😂
Haha cheers Geoff! I had a lot of swearing to edit out😂😂😂
Fair play for tackling the Alpacas, I bet they’re still easier to shear than an Oxford down.
No doubt! Just glad we don’t grow as much grass up here! Keeps the ewes smaller 😁
Those appear to be the Long-eared Manchester Alpaca. Nice job with what you had to work with.
Very nice cane. A true Craftsman there. I carve some walking sticks and canes myself.
What an absolutely stunning Hazel & Horn stick!
Great video. I never realized that alpacas were that feisty could kick like that.
Thanks Alice, would be a fairly powerful kick if you were got by one!!
Very funny at the end when you are talking and all the alpacas are looking at you with their eats up. When you stopped the three sets of ears go down flat.
Haha, they were listening in on the conversation! 🤣
Great video. Enjoyed the alpaca shearing.
Thanks Donl!!
Good job on your first time!!! A few more second cuts than on your sheep shearing but all in all, a very good job! And 2 & 3 were a piece of cake!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Actually never saw any second cuts on the sheep!!! ❣️
Cammie you don't have to worry about ever getting to be perfect. My experience says there will always be someone out there willing and able to pick things apart. Just gives a body incentive to strive on.
I love the Alpacas, they are so cute and I do know that when I have watched them being shown they try to give the hair in it's head a cute little 'fro type look. I had Liam, my Golden Retriever. Liam who was shown for conformation. Our group never take our dogs to a groomer, even for a show. I know well most of my friends and family who have dogs, it's all part of the responsibility of having a companion animal. I think it is good for bonding too. Bathing, brushing, trimming them up, nails done. (it helps when you have a grooming table and proper equipment for the job also). Not that I am any dog trainer, but when my back and joints started to cause me so much pain and they took so long to figure out what was wrong with me, I can attest, Liam was a great help at picking up stuff for me when I dropped anything. RIP Liam, my peanut butter boy
Good job. Loved watching.
Cheers Kyle!
That was fascinating. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed Trudy!
Cammy depending on what breed of dog being groomed it get's a wash, blow-dry & either clipped or de-sheded (where all the dead hair is removed from the coat). I groom dogs too. :)
Good job with the Alpacas aye!
Awesome Colette! It was a terrible job on Alpaca but we had fun!
I cant believe you flipped an alpaca like a sheep. I guess that's one way to do it.
Best one I've see done yet.
Aww so kind, thanks Pamela
Alpacas and llamas are like toddlers when it comes to haircut day. Some are ok with it, others make a huge fuss.
Enjoyed that one, looked great fun.
Something a bit different shearing an alpaca, try to avoid getting kicked!
Thanks. I truly enjoy your videos!!!
Thanks very much Gordon!
It's known as your phone voice Cammy polite and proper so everyone understands
Awesome...totally interesting and humorous !!
Thanks James! Try to keep it entertaining!
Very brave taking on the Alpacas. I didn't know they could kick like that, backwards and forwards. He said "do they have teeth"? Worried about being bitten. 😂😂😂😂👍🏼
Haha they did have massive teeth to be fair!! Think they need the grinder on them i’ve heard of that being done!
Uncastrated males absolutely will bite if they're mean enough.
Oh man! One of the funniest videos I've watched in a while! Love it! 😂😂😂
Wow! Never seen an Alpaca trimmed like a sheep. Over here in North America, they are usually tied down by ropes around their pasturns, stretching them out on their side. The knot - top is left (for cute?) and their socks are left (quality is not so good?) unshorn. I think you did a great job for your first time. Did you happen to get spat upon?
I was thinking the same thing - I've only seen alpacas shorn just as you described. Tommy just used to shearing sheep so he figured he'd do them they same way! Wasn't too shabby of a job, they looked good. 👍
I think u did a great job with the alpaca.
Thanks Gerldine!! Took a while but we got there😁
Yes to the subtitles!!!!!
Hilarious video. Here they leave the heads and tail wool on but perhaps that's for protection from mosquitoes.
Love the texting!
Thanks Anders
Those were the best behaved alpacas for getting sheered I have ever seen. You should go onto Ima Survivor Sanctuary in Texas and go back maybe 2-3 months ago and see what Annie did to Jami. She really got a lot off but it needed some touch up on her. It was hilarious!!! Majorly!!! Does Sandi Brock have like the biggest breeds of sheep? I've watched a lot of your videos and on Hall Hill Farm in Australia and I think anyway that she does. I'm watching this on Wednesday 9-8-21 at 2:17am. If it's an old video then sometimes I type all that. But you kinda know who I am with all of my comments in the last two weeks or a little more. Lol.
Right Choice Shearing
I tell people all the time they're basically different trades. I've been shearing alpacas professionally for 14 years and very rarely touch sheep anymore because I suck at them! Got the alpaca shearing down to under 4 minutes though 🙂
There's a gal here in the states that has a bunch of videos of shearing alpacas. She does them standing but snubs their heads up on a fence post so they can't spit or bite-cha. They don't like their back legs messed with. Some times she hobbles their back legs so they can't kick. That's a very nice stone barn by the way.
Enjoyed
Super videos, keep up the good work, plenty of craic too! Seen you wearing bib and brace in a previous video, any thoughts on which is the best brand?
Thanks Dave! 100% the - Hydrowear No Sweat - are the best!
You did good on the alpacas, looks like you didn’t get spit on.
Thanks Judy,
Jezus I needed that, had some laugh, great video, tasty work on the stick too 👏
Thanks for the comment! Glad u got a laugh! I certainly did! 😂
Amazing fair play
Thanks Morgan. It’s heavily edited 😂
Cammy you look so young!
Nice stick.
Great video very funny watching the three of you trying to handle them. Don't know if this is right but someone once told me you have to lie them down and tie their legs to shear them
I’ve seen videos of people doing that but quicker to just struggle away like this 😂
@@TheSheepGame I would agree with you there
You can do a little poodle cut with alpacas...leave a fuzzy topknot, and a tuft on their tail😊
Beautiful horn & hazel stick, really beautiful :-).
What can you shear next? I vote angora rabbits!! That'd be really funny to watch 😉.
Your way of shearing the alpacas seems a lot more humane than the videos I've seen of them being strapped to a turning table with front and back legs stretched out. That's really horrible and surely causes more stress to the animals than a bit of man-handling does. Well, that's my opinion... I'm totally unqualified to have one, but there it is!
Thanks for sharing (shearing, ha ha ha!)
K from Kent
Thanks Katherine. In fairness to the tying method it is a lot safer for the Alpaca. I was lucky these Alpacas were quiet. Most are crazy and panic so there is risk of injury to them and the shearer. When they are tied it means they can’t hurt themselves.
Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment😀
Looking at them sitting like people is CRACKING. ME. UP. 😂😂😂😂
Ha never thought of it that way!
Good jean b camera
I love your accent and don’t mind at all when you use Scots words. I do use the subtitles sometimes, but not because I can’t understand you. I use them when I want to watch without disturbing others and I don’t have headphones.
Great video. What brand of cordless shears do you use. Need to get one.
You’re doing really well for this southerner - may need subtitles for some of your clients 🥴. Do some alpacas keep their topknots?
That second alpaca had hair like you cammy! Lol 😝
have you ever clipped a yow with the old hand shears, would be great to see you do a comparison.
Yes I have even had a go with the hand shears at a show, will try and get them out again this summer and do a vlog, thanks for watching.
Cracking video once again.
🐑🐏
Thanks for watching!
So this is like the start to a joke, when three men met 3 alpaca's..............ROFL. This has got to be the funniest video I have watched in a long time, and I am surprised there was enough video left after all the cutting for swearing. Think it was pretty cool that the first one you cut, ended up with the same hairstyle as yours :o
Thanks very much Ian we had a good laugh.
Yes! please do the subtitles...this Canadian can't understand your beautiful accent haha thanks!
Hi Donna, they take so long to do but i’m trying to speak clearer in my more recent videos. 😁
Puting the Alpacas on their backs like you do Sheep seemed to calm them.
Alpaca shearing. First class. Did you shear the Swiss soft toy?
Yeah i short the three Valais too. Actually filmed it on my new drone but had issues downloaded it! 😁
This was hilarious 👏
Thanks Campbell!!
Looks like you did just great!! Was that the first time the alpacas had been sheard?
Another fun day on the farm!!

I’m startun ta spake Liake a Scotsman, so keap tha vedios Cummin💕
Haha, very good, will rub off eventually 😂
When I was 14 I got a job at a museum and I had to carpool and learn to spin it and put it on this on spinner wheel spinning wheels. Best I can figure out where you put out the big wheel that goes you may yarn we would like to have that kind of least our come with poop on it.
Thank you , that was best thing to watch to cheer me up on this dull morning. Clipping those Alpacas , watching 3 men wrestling 😀😇. What next camels? Keep up good work, but seriously be careful of your back.🏴👍
Haha thanks James! It’s hard to keep finding new things to shear! 😂
Who would ever want to be a copper over a shepherd? No contest..my sheep have never pulled a gun on me...but there have been a few high speed chases...
Hilarious, what a laugh
Thanks John! We had fun!
Lmao I’ve never seen an alpaca shorn that way. They usually have them standing tied up to something 😂😂😂😂
Good job shearing the alpies. Keep the subtitles because as a non-native English speaker I wouldn't understand the dialogues without them.
Yeah I try to speak clearer in my more recent videos! =D
@@TheSheepGame You're doing fine don't you worry. It's just a certain way of speaking that we don't learn in English class but it sounds nice, I like it.
An alpaca is a sheep that a British parliamentary committee put together.
What was that in the shed with the Alpacas?
Does he makes those walking sticks to sell?? I’m from Montana, USA.. How much would it cost to make one and ship it here?? I wouldn’t want the horn polished. I really would like one. Thank you
Why didn’t you sure the valley knows black black sheep I’ve learned I’m an American first had to learn Sandy Brocks language now I had to learn yours, and I started watching the lady and Australia. Gotta keep learning. When you say hog cows could you please specify for us
Next on your shearing list a Highland cow?
Haha it might take more than three of us to tip that up! 😁
I had a llama we sheared once a year. We built a stanction his size and tied down his head. Jackass llama but he sheared fine. People should train their llamas and alpaca to stand to be sheared just like dogs should be trained to be groomed and horses to be groomed.
Also, i would leave the tail poof untrimmed personally. Otherwise they just look pathetic they need their tail poof 😂
Funny see George on UA-cam. He's married to my niece.
Hi. Really enjoy your videos. I'm thinking of getting a razor shearing set for small flocks would you recommend it and how many sheep will a battery shear? Thanks Mark.
Thanks Mark. Depends on the shearer 😁. A battery lasts about 40 mins with full shearing. The blades move slower so if u are used to a three speed machine u will need to slow ur hand down. 👍
@@TheSheepGame Ok. I borrow a handypiece at the moment for small numbers but they are quite expensive to buy. Also don't like the thick belt they have when bending over so looking for something different. Just done 50 dorsets with it today. Could you do a tour of your scanning trailer at some point? I'm just about to start a scanning business in Cornwall and like the look of your trailer. Thanks.
What was that other hairy creature in with alpacas? Some other kind of sheep?
Ah that was a swiss valais
Aye mate I use the subtitles. Yer accent thick as black treacle!
Nice job for first try. I cannot believe how goofy their faces look after a sheer though lol. Skinny little necks and patchy faces.
Do they jump out of the trailer much?? The middle peice is so short and you can see them thinking about it!
Nah i’ve certainly never seen it. 😅
Good hoggs
Aye they were braw!! Shearing some of my own in the next video!
I do use subtitles. CC is working on this video, mostly.
What a laugh watching them alpacas getting sheared
I had great fun and James always adds good value 🤣
yes for the comment
Can you make more normal speed shearing clip please ?
Hi Patrick. Check out my more recent videos 😁
Great vid what breed are they white faced hogs that u sheared
Thank you!! They are texels out of mule ewes.
What kinda shears do you have
Hi Dillon. There is a link to them in video description. 👍
what happens to the alpaca wool
Not sure what was done with it Sam the owner kept it
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣 at least the alpaca wool is worth good money.
I do here the market for it is quite good and can make some super soft garments 👍
Oft! That was funny 😂 what are they pets or ? The guy didnae ken much about them 🦙
Hi Jane. They are pets but not his pets😂
The Sheep Game lol 😂 I did wonder
