Depends on the state but sue the store for the amount of money lost. If the people are as nice as others say they are then, they should be willing to settle pretty quickly, and since the amount isnt massive, their insurance should cover it pretty easily. So it's a win-win almost.

If it was out of malintent, it would be from teens with credit cards, young adults or middle aged individuals. (But you never know, some elderly and kids without credit cards can be quite savvy)

Most banks dont hold you liable for fraudulent charges. They also usually have fraud protections in place for charges that are out of the ordinary. I think that’s what the fdic insurance is, and you can tell she clearly wasn’t at fault for fraudulent charges.

Its a credit card banks basically always cover fraudulent charges on them immediately. Fraud is literally calculated into the operating cost, because they determined preventing fraud would actually cost them more money.
