Always use the tractor, when you can, to lift walls. The tractor makes it safer. When you two had the wall section standing, a breeze could have blown it over. Trying to save the wall is when someone gets hurt. Those wall braces are not enough. They need better anchor cleats to hold the walls in a strong wind gust. Hopefully you won't get any wind until the framing is finished. When I was 17, I saw a 7 story steel frame for a building blowdown. 13 men were killed and several other mangled. It wasn't braced. Another good video. Good Luck, Rick
I really love the endings in each video where Melissa expresses her feelings about each vital step in your family's (ohana) journey. It's very heartwarming.
Guys, before you raise walls, toe nail the footers on their end into the deck along the length before you assemble the wall. Space it back roughly the width of the board from the edge... then, the wall will hinge on the nails as you lift it and it won't kick off the side. Check out Larry Hahn's videos on youtube, he is the OG framer!
We have watched Larry Hahn's videos, fantastic framer. Great advice you are giving them KHayes, that is they way we keep our walls from sliding. We are retired general contractors and love your videos. Very proud of both of you. We laugh at some of your learning mistakes, because we all make them. All our children learned to swing a hammer at a young age and learned good work ethic. Raising your children out there is the best way to raise children.. Keep smiling and enjoying your journey..
Huge respect for you and the importance you place on your children and family. You will forever remember the time spent together making wonderful memories.

Amazing how hard you guys work but trust me it pays off in the end and way less stress than having to deal with building crew who shows up whenever and have every excuse imaginable.. Speaking from experience and wish we were able to do a lot of the work ourselves. KUDOS again to you both.
Rushing Wind Mountain -Yes, This house build may progress just as fast as a work crew that isn't able to stay on the job, for whatever reason. Our farm cottage was built in 2016. It was a simple modular that came in two halves. You would think that is a piece of cake... Well, we experienced every MURPHY'S LAW situation you can imagine! Our woodland property house site sits on a fairly steep hill in central NH. We have only one way in, that has a brook with a bridge. The original crane company canceled last minute, stating they wanted our small rural town hall to insure their crane if it fell into the brook! We scrambled to find a smaller crane who would cross the bridge. Found a guy in VT, who had no problem. Then the carpenter crew had issues. They were only a few guys and had multiple reasons they could not show up. Then our house halves got separated after leaving the PA manufacturer. One half ended up stuck in VT because it was not allowed to travel over wet/rainy roads. We hired another private trucker to rescue us! He managed to park one half on the main farm and stay with the 2nd half in VT. And so adventures went on and on... The trucker needed a running start to get those halves up the steep driveway. I have to say both the crane operator and our long haul trucker were well past the age of retirement and they were an awesome pair for cowboys! They got the job figured out and done!
Melissa, each time you end a video with the message, it’s a wonderful job. 🥲 touched by your message, your absolutely correct. It’s about spending time with your younglings. You blink and they will be grown. Enjoy life because it is always to short. God bless
Honestly, this channel is one of the few things I look forward to after working a 10 hour shift. I have enjoyed watching your channel for the past year. Thank you💜🙌
Just a suggestion: it’s customary to fasten the support braces at the floor by temporarily nailing a short piece of lumber (12-16”) flat on the floor and then nailing the support brace into the side of this short piece of lumber. It just gives you more nailing surface for the bottom of your support brace with more nails. Handy in a strong wind👍
Hey guys! In regards to the wall support 2x4's: You might consider first nailing a scrap to the floor, then nailing the wall support to the scrap for a stronger tie!
Yes, nail a short 2x4 flat on the floor deck and then nail the wall brace into the side of the 2x4. Doing this will make the bracing sturdier and less likely to move.
Came here to make the same comment but with a couple of changes. You might want to consider using longer 2x6's. Attach them closer to the top plate. A 45° angle would be optimal. Instead of nailing the 2x4 to the deck, try screwing it. It's much easier to make fine adjustments. Might also want to consider bracing every 10 ft in case the wind picks up really hard.
As always, you done a nice job on the video. I love your dog. Incredible, 56 feet of wall all done. I am excited for you and with you as you get more of your dream home done. What is even greater than the house build is your kids see you work on a huge task and getting it done. Who knows, maybe one day they will have the confidence to take on their own huge task. Just as importantly is they can see how much you and your husband love each other. It is precious. 😥😃😃😃😍😎
Might feel like baby steps now , but soon you will be running and enjoying everything that you have done . Looking good and better everyday . Keep on keepin-on !
That is so funny. My Grandfather's name was Stanley. When I was a little girl he used to tell me his Stanley tools were custom made for him. And I believed him lol. Fond memories 😊
Amazing job.. Melissa is one strong sporty mate to help you build this house..I really don't know how she does it day after day. Time passes so quick, it's so nice to see you have family fun too. The kids are very appreciative. Are you guys going to plant fruit trees this year?
Hey Jeremy when you screw your supports to the floor. Screw a 1 foot 2x4 to the floor then screw your diagonal support board to that instead of trying to toenail it to the deck. Much easier and stronger.
"Learning opportunities" - love that Jeremy! Should be part of every parent's vocabulary. Would keep kids from thinking that they fail at what they think is everything. An opportunity to learn means they keep their self-esteem intact. Wish I'd known that growing up. I love that you let your kids help in the build. Builds more than muscle. Builds integrity and character. I love that you brings us along the nature walks to discover more! Melissa, it is not incredible; it's credible - believable! You're both working hard to lay not only the foundation of your home but anchoring your family's life in Idaho. Keep smiling, keep stretching. That's how God loves helping us. It's in the tough times that He walks with us, lifts us up and stretches the rubber band so that we reach the goals he has set before us. Take care. Stay safe.
I totally agree with you Foret B. Our children learn the most when they work along side you. As a woman retired from building for others and then building our last home, I love watching Melissa tackle any job while being and excellent mom. The two of them work well as a team.
Truely the most holsome best you tube channel there is hands down i dearley love it bee safe god bless all of you may gods love always shine thru love jim
you might want to cut a number of braces the same length and mitred at a 45 deg angle both ends and then secure them to 2x4s screwed flat on the floor. gives you more holding power than just a bunch of screws or nails at the very corners of the braces. just trying to help you out.
You guys are doing an awesome job. I'd suggest you beef up you temporary wall braces. You have alot of square foot of wall for the wind to push against.
if i was able to get over there only to help you guys , have a thrird pair of hands on site to assist you guys i would be on a plane now, you guys show that people can with enouth will power overcome anything. First wall June 15, 1987. Dried in September 30, 1987. 3200 sq ft house on two levels. We DID have a grounds crew (small college campus) who came to help us stand up the big walls - 20' wide, 18' high, and 26' wide x 12' high. ALL with a framing hammer and nails, as we had no compressor. In fact, we did it all with a generator - line up the boards all marked and cut, start the generator, cut, and then nail together. Would not trade that time for ANYthing, but is WAS hard, Hard, HARD at times. Oh yeah....the 6"x16" roof beams were lifted into place with the college crane, too.... :-) It's SO nostalgic watching you do this -- our kids were right there with us, too - and we're enjoying it immensely. Thanks, also for your witness to what's important!

Wow, nice week finishing the back wall and taking the kids to Sandpoint. Also I think Melissa is going to have 20 inch bicepts when the house is finished and is going to carry Jeremy through the front door Lol!!!

God’s speed for your journey ahead. !🙏🏼💕💕🙏🏼 Also Melissa, I really enjoy your comments at the end. It’s wonderful and very well said!💕🙏🏼💕
Melissa, the speeches that you make at the end of the videos are just amazing and inspiring! Thanks for all the great videos! Hope you keep them coming.
The two of you are just perfect together, what lucky children to have the two of you as parents. Wow that is some awesome tape action, happy that you got a new tape.
I don't know if you realise this, but you are giving your children their parents forever young with these videos. You guys are building a future lifestyle for your children. The day will come when you are no longer young & unable to do what you do today. Building this home for your family is a great achievement. Well done you. What I take from your videos is, you have given your children long lasting memories of their parents throughout the years. Many of us have only snap shot photos . Your children have your voice & laughter. As an elderly parent, I can't do what I did two decades ago & would loved to have this technology. Your building this beautiful house for your kids, but these videos are more precious. Your children are truly blessed.
I hope your family never forgets to love and appreciate each day, and that each step of the journey is one step closer to seeing your dreams fulfilled. Every day is a gift-cherish them all.
Every mis-step is an opportunity to learn more. We only grow through failure when we have the courage to start again to make it right!👏👏 Your unfailing enthusiasm, positive attitudes and good humor will carry the day!🌈🤩❤️ Stay safe, be well and see ya next time👋👋
The opening of this video is incredible. Don't know if you used a drone and flew it through the boys window and then up to show that breathtaking view you will have, but I was in awe. I had goosebumps! Great Job. I am excited to watch this build from start to finish!
@@GoodSimpleLiving Melissa, how do I upgrade my membership? I started on the lower end but I would really like to experience more of the perks that come along with this. This is by far my favorite UA-cam Channel. I am all about remodeling, DIY, just all of this in general. My roommate constantly questions if I ever watch anything else? LOL Don't know if I will ever have this opportunity to do my own build, because of my age, but can certainly live my dreams through someone else's eyes! I also never imaged that I would like that part of tour great country, but it is spectacular. Quite a change from your time in Hawaii. Thanks again!
Y’all are just perfect for each other! Love the innuendoes in your conversations! Just too cute! But most of all I love the sense of family and fun together y’all have! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You both are such an inspiration with everything you have accomplished and with what you will. Beautiful family with amazing family values. I was surprised to hear that Jeremy is part Korean. Family!! ❤
I am so impressed with how hard working both of you are! The house build is hard but fitting in daily chores and raising three kids is EPIC! Oh yeah I smile every time Daddy call his wife Momma because I still do the same thing after 38 years of being married!
Enjoy every minute with your kids and the building of your new home.....time Flys by so fast and you will look back and say what happen...Iam talking from experience, Iam now 67 yrs old and I think back to when I started my career in Law Enforcement, and when I met my wife and we had 4 boys who are fantastic...Its amazing just how fast it goes....You guys will have great memories,,, so again, enjoy every moment.....
One down 3 to go, In your last post I commented, that you would start finding your groove, I think you two are about there. Nice job!! Great to see the whole family take a trip to the big town and get FRIES, BURGERS, BEER, and ICE CREAM!!!!YEAAH MOM AND DAD.
Step by step, one day at a time, you got it !! I sit here and watch you working and (for right now lol) calm. Just remember, when you start to feel overwhelmed, stop, hug your beautiful kids and know tomorrow is another day !! ❤️❤️🤗🤗
So so exciting to watch you build your home.......I wish the posts were day by day it's so enjoyable. LOL It is huge and I cannot wait to see and watch and travel these days with you.......love your family and what you stand for and yes........I can say after 54 years of marriage to date it is important to have ice cream and loafing days in life those you will remember for sure as the other days fade that are all the same. Make the happy moments as happy as you can. The home build is going beautifully and love your tricks and how you are doing things. Your children will realize one day how beautiful their family lives and how wonderful their parents are. Take care and keep that snack belt full........lots yet to do and fun fun watching you!!! Blessings
Always look forward to see Sir Kenji 💖. So enjoy watching your build. Reminds me when my husband and I built our first home together. Thought I’d never see it done but we persevered. Al🌺ha

This is awesome to watch but I can't lie, I can hardly wait for move in day!
Making memories are so important,no matter when you take the time.Kids grow so fast !

Guys I'm so excited that first wall make a difference can't wait
The opening of this video is incredible. Don't know if you used a drone and flew it through the boys window and then up to show that breathtaking view you will have, but I was in awe. I had goosebumps! Great Job. I am excited to watch this build from start to finish!
Aww thank you!
Timeflies I swear it was just last week I was watching you guys living out of a camper working on a tiny home and now look at that giant wall amazing
Y’all are just perfect for each other! Love the innuendoes in your conversations! Just too cute! But most of all I love the sense of family and fun together y’all have! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, truly blessed ❤
You both are such an inspiration with everything you have accomplished and with what you will. Beautiful family with amazing family values. I was surprised to hear that Jeremy is part Korean. Family!! ❤
I am so impressed with how hard working both of you are! The house build is hard but fitting in daily chores and raising three kids is EPIC! Oh yeah I smile every time Daddy call his wife Momma because I still do the same thing after 38 years of being married!
Lovely day out and the house is just moving along nicely. You guys are great!
I love your channel, I always hit play the moment I see the notification.
One down 3 to go, In your last post I commented, that you would start finding your groove, I think you two are about there. Nice job!! Great to see the whole family take a trip to the big town and get FRIES, BURGERS, BEER, and ICE CREAM!!!!YEAAH MOM AND DAD.
Mickduuuuuff's... So, my husband isn't the only one that exaggerates the names of they're favorite place, too funny! Best t-shirt ever!
Step by step, one day at a time, you got it !! I sit here and watch you working and (for right now lol) calm. Just remember, when you start to feel overwhelmed, stop, hug your beautiful kids and know tomorrow is another day !! ❤️❤️🤗🤗

He was a philosopher extraordinaire. The funkiest hairdo in the art world too. Lol. Gotta love Bob. The original ASMR.
Blessings
That was one of your best videos. Thanks.
ITS GOOD FOR THE FAMILY TO HAVE GOOD FAMILY TIME. ENJOY
Oh man! Your closing statements always make me cry.
He's the cool man on campus because he has you and the kids to work and play with him. In this lovely place.
I love it where the sun doesn’t shine and there it was. We say that quite often.
how good for these beautiful kids to grow up like this! They get a lifestyle that most kids don`t even know about.
So nice to see you all work so good together - lovin it
Always look forward to see Sir Kenji 💖. So enjoy watching your build. Reminds me when my husband and I built our first home together. Thought I’d never see it done but we persevered. Al🌺ha
Life should never be too busy for ice cream.
The freedom you guys have to embrace each other when the weather is good as apposed to when you get time off work is the best part of what you are doing!
