Thanks John & Jason. As we don't have any Yaesu Sales Reps here in VK Land, it's Great to see a Yaesu Rep on giving a run down on features of their New FTM-200DR.
    Thanks again guys

Another great video, Jason. On pricing, I might be just unlucky but every mobile radio I am looking at has gone up in price. It doesn’t change my direction of what I am planning on, just extends the schedule of when. So my plan is to install antenna systems that can be grown into, like putting a Comet dual band 2m/70cm antenna in and use my HT (Anytone 878) initially while migrating to the mobile radio down the road. Again, I appreciate your videos and they have been very helpful letting me know my options. All the best, 73 de KI5HXM

Love these video review/walk-throughs. This FTM 2000 is on my radar. If it did HF, I would already have one. I am a new Ham working on my General license now. I would love to do Potas, but it would be next to impossible with U/V only. I would love a shack in the box like the IC-7100 but I just haven't bought into the fact that you can't attach the head to the body, if you want to. My wife didn't bat an eye with me dropping $500 on the FT5DR, but I don't want to push my luck telling her I need to purchase an HF radio and a dual band radio. Too many decisions...LOL.

thanks for the rundown. I'm a new ham, general. I've been looking at the FTM-400XDR for use on my upcoming RV adventure. I want the APRS for our kids to keep tabs on our location. I've not bought yet as I don't have an immediate need and the price. Now I'm looking at this radio, the FTM-200DR and am wondering if this radio might be better suited for a new ham for mobile radio price and features. -73 KO4VNK

Y guy right. Y is bringing newer product to market.
That said, Y needs to introduce:
    1. A mini dual band mobile like the B-Tech 10-25W.
    2. All mode 2m all mode. Dual band?
I do have 80w 2m Y rig. Love it. George Jetson easy to use.
Y in the 1980's hadcsome "manpack" all mode for various band.
I could see Y making a low power rig, but have it so you can attach an amp/tuner. Base rig under 20w, then the amp sends it to 50 to 100w.

Have 2mike ports great. On my Icoms mobils I can use one mike port for mike, second for TNC. More options good.
This Y does have a digi port. Good.

New Yaesu memory banking - carry multiple SD cards to load setups if your mobile radio happens to go mobile for city/county or trip setups.

I like that my 400 xdr has the mic going into the body but if the transmission tunnel weren't such a perfect place to mount a radio in my '16 f150 I might feel differently. I might buy the discussed radio for my '14 accord 6spd. I like to save the SCU for firmware updates and use the sd card for configuration changes.

Wish Fusion was available in my city. It's by far the best digital mode in terms of ease of use and set-up. Closer to discord than all other options. Unfortunately, I can only use it at home with my hotspot.

im curious on how the aprs works? I like riding around beaconing so that I can make contacts. I currently use a icom 2370 with a mobilkind tnc but if i go to voice and forget to turn off aprsdroid its gets messy. I would not mind this radio if I could beacon on the b band but does it still receive messages or anything?

That Bluetooth thing is a show stopper. We should be able to control radio from a phone or tablet via Bluetooth or WiFi. Yaesu is old school behind times.

“Can’t test 3rd part devices” wtf I work for a much smaller company and that is literally half my job. The minimum I’ve ever tested personally in a year is 38,000. I think that’s rounding down. I’m one person. I test products that have sold or are predicted to sell less than 1 million units. They usually exceed that number so I round up to 38,000,000 units sold (in hand, not store) basically the population of California! Multiply my part time work with 8-12 other people… I’ll say 10, that is 380,000,000 units. Over the population of the United States of America.
We only sell in North America and the UK but our upper average is well within GC

  • @G7CDA

Same price as the FTM300 in the UK for less features. No logic to it??

This "camera" mic is widely unavailable and expensive. I hear the camera never really was very good. So, Mr. Yaesu guy why not come out with a camera-less model for say $40 USD instead of leading us down some rabbit hole of further disappointment?
And while I'm asking for miracles can we get a firmware update to the FTM-300 that will add the PMG? Please! Look, I'm begging! On my knees. Help us Obi-Wan you are only hope!

I do understand that Yaesu cannot test all Bluetooth devices, but find the answer a bit blunt and lazy. Why not set up a knowledge database, so users can give feedback about working devices, so future buyers can check if their gear can run on the FTM-200DR or whatever Yaesu radio can be included in the database. This is a kind of action the buyer can value instead of just waving the item away and leave the guessing to the customer.

    • @malanalan1
      @malanalan1 2 роки тому

That guy is pretty clueless about Bluetooth. Don't expect much from a salesman. How come small Chinese companies can get it right. You can even do APRS messaging via Bluetooth from your phone or tablet. Yaesu are bunch of technology dinosaurs.
