My neighbor when I was growing up was a Doctor for Nazi War Criminals during the Nuremberg trials. He would pronounce them dead and did other duties. He would tell me stories about examining the nazis and chatting with them one day and seeing them hanged the next. He lived a very interesting life and later became friends with Ronald Reagan. He was very wealthy and had many artifacts and paintings in his house including Teddy Roosevelts rifle. When he died his wife auctioned his stuff for, I assume, a hefty sum. In that auction I learned he had a Nazi generals saber that had been gifted to him, or he had stolen. Either way he was a fascinating man and lived to be in his late 90s.

A friend's uncle, U.S. Army was posted at Hitler's Berghof for awhile. In the 1970s my friend showed me a priceless stash of Nazi inscribed memorabilia, and I wondered how he had managed to ship so much stuff home. Much dinnerware, etc., all with the swastika throughout. I held a stack of Von Ribbentrop's calling cards in my hands, which simply listed his name. Often wonderered whatever became of it all. They weren't supposed to remove anything, but ... I came into a silver SS Deaths Head insignia in the '70s, which my mother promptly disposed of. You didn't dare question that generation on such issues.

My mother was 16 when the war ended; she lived in Peine, a town located to the east of Hannover. She commented that the British occupying forces brought instant law and order. She added that women did not have to fear being raped, because the British were there. At all times the behaved correctly. Given that information, I would surmise one of two alternatives:
    1.) That Himmler was handled hastily by persons doing the best job that they could do under the circumstances;
    2.) That he escaped.

I certainly did. One thing mark left out was that there was noticeable signs that Himmler had received a severe beating shortly before his death. These signs apparently show up on his death mask. The sergeant in the room with Himmler when he died was supposedly the man ordered to beat Himmler. No sign of any glass or poison were ever found in or near the body of Himmler.

There are photos of Himmler after his death. If you’ve ever seen anyone beaten to death the face is usually badly damaged. It’s possible I suppose that he could have been beaten in the abdomen and ruptured a spleen, liver etc. In that case he would have bled out and the copious amount of free blood in the abdomen would be obvious on postmortem.

Dr Felton, as an MD in the research field, it is possible that Cambridge cannot tell you the specimens belong to because they have been anonymised. That means that the records connecting a given specimen number to an actual name have been destroyed or were never provided to them in the first place. Often laboratories get specimens without any personal identification data. Samples may be labelled with origin and subject number but only the research site which interacts with the human subject has the actual name and other identification information for the subject. Only they can link the specimen to a given name and surname. Cambridge may therefore not have access to this and so it would then not be possible for them to tell us whose specimens they house.

Dr. Felton, this whole series is brilliantly done. As you may remember from previous episodes, I worked in federal law enforcement for over 20 years and have been commenting on my own theory much based on your research as well as others, and i must commend you on you meticulous research. You follow the very logical and thorough investigative processes that a well trained and experienced law enforcement officer would employ.
In prior episodes I have laid down my theory, and we are in agreement on a great many threads. I do believe it was Himmler who died in that front parlor. I do not believe it was suicide, which goes against Himmler's very core nature, but rather believe he was eliminated. Your additional clue that the examining Dentist, who's report was extremely thorough, does not mention the presence of any glass remains from the cyanide capsule, is very significant. Added with what the doctor, who was with him at time of death, stated he swabbed out his mouth and gave mouth to mouth resuscitation, something only a complete idiot would have done considering lethal doses of cyanide were involved, clearly indicate that the poison was delivered by another means. Most probably in food, he was given a meat sandwich and strong English or German mustard would easily conceal the taste of cyanide.
Add to that the conference conducted by the chief of Army Intelligence, which has several known intelligence officers present as well as 2 un-named, uniformed men, who were no doubt connected to British Intelligence agencies, clearly indicates that this was a cover up meeting. Himmler was killed under direct orders from someone back in Britain, now it was time to build up a plausible suicide story.
Removal of teeth, as well as the hasty burial of Himmler's unpreserveld corpse, (before anyone with any real records can examine him) virtually guaranteed that upon exhumation at a later date, something the Intelligence officers would have assumed would occur, would guarantee that his body could not be positively identified nor could his exact cause of death be ascertained from his rotting corpse. Any future inquiry would have to rely on the testimony of the intelligence officers, their enlisted subordinates, and their hand picked medical officers, to verify Himmler's cause of death. Case closed, as far as they are concerned, mission accomplished. Himmler can no longer provide damaging testimony and possibly physical evidence which linked very high ranking members of British society with the nazi party.
As military men they are sworn to defend King and country, note the order, King then country. King George VI was a much beloved monarch and having his brother, the former King Edward VIII turned Duke of Windsor, and Wallis Simpson, now the Duchess of Windsor, exposed for the nazi supporters they were and any possible plots by Himmler's SS and the former King to somehow supplant King George VI and return to the throne of a nazi collaborationist Britain, would humiliate the Crown and Britain herself. Himmler would have kept meticulous records and made sure he had them hidden safely to be used as bargaining chips. So the safest thing to do for the British government is to have Himmler removed from the equation.
As for his missing brain, that's a new mystery to work on, as you are doing. I do know that it was extremely common in that era for the brains of particularly nasty criminals, people who were deemed criminally insane, people who were known sociopaths or psychopaths, as well as those from highly intelligent individuals, to be removed and used for study. So the brain being removed really isn't that important to the case of how he died. It is however important to quell the theory that Himmler escaped Germany after the war.
Dr. Felton, I am sure that you will follow your excellent investigative skills and, if the brain still exists, get to the bottom of that mystery. Good Hunting.

Thank you for pushing forward the hypothesis. I find it very interesting. I have some issues though. Firstly, how would the SS have helped some of the monarchy to try and overthrow other members of the monarchy?
Secondly, if Himmler had the information to humiliate the British, then why couldn't he share it with other surviving Nazis caught and tried at Nuremberg? Surely Himmler must have thought if something were to happen to him, then that information he has would also disappear. It would have been wiser to share that information with other surviving members of the Nazi party. Plus to stick to the information that Himmler had, then surely Hitler must have known. So my final question is why didn't Hitler use that information as propaganda during the war to cause alienation among the allies? Surely the USSR and USA would find hard to support Britain if certain members of the monarchy were Nazi sympathisers. Thank you.

I think there might be more to it. Testifying in open court at a war crimes trial might reveal possible negotiations Himmler had with the British government during the war. It does not make sense though, even if Himmler did not commit suicide but was killed, or even if he did and the british were worried about being judged of not searching him thoroughly, there have been obvious efforts of a great scale in hiding Himmler's identity more than his manner of death. Why do this? There would have been no harm in positively identifying Himmler's body, even in the worst case scenario he was indeed killed. It is obvious that there is a completely different side to this story no one knows about not having to do with how he died but who he is. Such total noncooperation and effort to hide his identity could only imply that Himmler's body was the body of a substitute and indeed Himmler may have remained alive with the help of the British for reasons unknown or as a part of some deal. Perhaps the only reason could be that if Himmler was officially alive and was interrogated the world and especially other governments may have been curious on what he may have revealed to the British. But with him officially being dead, the british could have had a free reign of unlimited intelligence he possessed without the boundaries of sharing it with anyone since he was officially dead. And perhaps the only price Himmler may have asked for his cooperation was his freedom and a new life, something which would have been impossible if he was still alive as he would have been definitely tried at the Nuremberg Trials. Many claim the British saw more value in him being dead than alive because it was "rumored" he possessed embarrassing information but I disagree, that because of that fact he was worth to the British far more alive than dead as it was the only way of finding out what he really knew. And based on what he knew the British had total control over his life and could have executed him to their own accord if they wished since you cannot kill the same person twice.

Of course they took his finger prints..
They know full well exactly who he was and probably have samples of every bit of soft tissue inside the guys body.
Remember the soviets have never revealed HITLERS body, never mind any of his ministerial juniors. The body they did provide for research wasn’t even male.
So of course the nation states who needed to know, knew. Just now for historians and future generations, we are deemed “not required to know” and are never informed.
But to think In reality the British and Americans didn’t have totally solid positive identification as well as confirmation he was dead, I think is a stretch. Moreover this was evidently compelling enough for the newly formed Israeli state to accept, without committing huge resources to investigate further - which in many other cases they did even till today.
In all likelihood he was indeed himler and he did indeed kill himself with cyanide as reported but this was in part as a result of inadvertent assistance by his British guards, which would be a huge embarrassment for the nation. A nation at the time in ecstasy, pride and moral victory - certainly with no appetite then for scandal or a press scrambling to publicise the nations failures throughout the preceding near decade of war. It’s not like now, how all media relishes in its criticism of any government action. Back then perhaps uniquely in history, worldwide international sentiment, from every corner of the world, was that the righteous won. The good guys succeeded in their quest against evil was the compelling narrative.
No one ultimately was ever arguing against that sentiment, not the soviets nor the “neutral” Swiss. It was simply to mutual benefit of all domestic propaganda internationally, to forward the existing narrative without question. To do any less would be seen almost as treasonous.
When you view this all under that lens, it all becomes much more logical and justifiable explanations resolve a clear sharp image of sovereign intent which otherwise appears to be a deliberate obfuscation when viewed through any different lens.

As a dentist I can only say that a man with such a status of teeth as the ones provided by Dr. Brown's dental examination records fits the description of a man with high socioeconomic status at the time. Seeing as the war went on for several years and access to proper nutrition and dental hygiene resources became increasingly difficult to obtain, this condition of dental health would have been hard to maintain going down the socioeconomic ladder, let alone for an expendable body double.
As for the pulled out teeth discovered on the later exhumed corpse, I noticed that the dental records noted gold caps and silver amalgam fillings, which would had been a financial incentive perhaps?

Many years ago i did some work in a london hospital that was have an old research wing demolished; in one room were shelves full with hundreds of jars with all sorts of body parts in them. There was even a babies skull that had been kept for some unknown reason. All the jars and other items had fading identification numbers written on them; any records of who they were from having long been lost. On asking why they were kept i was told no one had the authority to dispose of them, that process requiring more than tipping them into a skip.
I do think that Himmler's brain, if it still exists, is probably in an anonymous jar gathering dust in a locked storeroom much like the ones in that now demolished London hospital wing .

Is it because Himmler’s family members that need protection? Is it because the blundering British officers still need to be protected, or are those teeth getting worth more or even less over time. A piece of brain for €15000? Teath for €50K now maybe. How to authenticate such a claim. Hence the removal on ebay? Americans will pay anything at auction, but there needs to be proof. It is the proof that is the issue. No mention of the glass in reports is the most interesting in this story. But why would the British be in the middle of this riddle. That americans took everything home as relics i get, but not the British right? or am i off on that one.

Having seen all four of Mark Feltons videos on Himmler, I find myself agreeing with him that Himmler died at Luneburg in May 1945. But there are so many contradictions in the accounts of his death, and missing evidence and documentation, that it seems to me that a cover-up took place. However, I tend to follow the rule that you should never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence, stupidity or ignorance. So I think it is more probable that we are looking at one of the biggest FUBARs in the whole of WW2, rather than a conspiracy of some kind.

    • @TrockeyTrockey
      @TrockeyTrockey 2 роки тому +2

My version is that Himmler did not die at Luneburg in May 1945. Himmler had a lot of information about secret services, together with tons of documents that was VERY valuable for other, like Brits. So very rational next step was to protect Himmler: hide him alive and force him to cooperation. And Brits didn't kill Himmler, but his doubler, instead. And they would hide Himmler for further cooperation.

@@mattskustomkreations A plausible hypothesis. Have no idea if toxicology tests were performed but bear in mind that forensic science was much less advanced than today. I think there would be a high risk of contamination from the location of the death that might make any results uncertain. If there was a cover-up the results could be faked/altered anyway.

@@simonbeaird7436 Thanks. They definitely could test for cyanide, alcohol and some poisons. I’m not sure if sodium pentathol was around back then but they may have given him that or some other “truth serum” and he went into anaphylactic shock - which can and does kill people. Or the O’d him on some mixture of drugs. But severe anaphylaxis would not leave any marks with enough time gone by. Essentially it means your airways swell up in an allergic reaction and you suffocate, unless you are quickly intubated. Even then it might be difficult because people jaws are known to clich tight too. But if there was a cover up, they’re just gonna write down whatever they want. I used to do medical simulations for doctor & nurse training. One scenario happened enough times that they used it for the course: cardio patients get a dye injected into their system so the MRI or whatever they use makes the structures and blood flow of the heart show up better. Unfortunately some patients don’t find out that they are allergic to the dye until they go into anaphylactic shock on the gurney! Then it’s oh crap all hands on deck to get the guy breathing.

@@mattskustomkreations Sodium Pentothal was available for use at least in the U.S but I'm not sure in Germany, but I assume it was due to its importance in surgery or sedation. Several other Barbiturates were available & commonly used for insomnia and sedation including Sodium Amytal ( "Blue 88's") Sodium Seconal ("Reds"...which are still made since the late 30's ) and Butabarbital ("Butisol") ANY of the above mentioned Barbiturates are/were extremely easy to fatality OD on. As a matter of fact Seconal here in the U.S is used in 8+ states for physician assisted suicide or "Death with Dignity" also legal in Canada; Belgium and most famously Switzerland ( where us foreigners can travel there to use their services ). I worked in pharmacy almost 20yrs & studied the Barbiturate group of meds ( most were discontinued yrs ago due to severe abuse & high OD's by addicts & high levels of recreational use ) Some like Seconal & the much weaker Phenobarbital are still available) Pentothal is still used for very short minor procedures/ dentistry & for sedation before ECT treatments for severe depression. Himmler could have easily been given an injection of ANY of the Barbiturates above & been knocked out & unaware of anything. Very lethal in an OD and no true antidote was or is available to reverse one like an opioid OD is reversible. Hope the info helps.

This was another great video series. There’s so much about Himmlers end that I was unaware of, particularly related to how he and his corpse were handled once in British custody. Removal of the teeth and hiding the body from the Soviets especially, as well as the medical officer in charges complete omission of Himmler at all. I still think Himmler died on that day in 1945, but some of the actions taken after that suggest there is a lot we may never have answers for.

I too am skeptical of all the "Hitler/Himmler got out" stories, but you never know what evidence can come out in the end, especially in such vague and poorly handled at the time cases.

Thank you for the series about Himmler and his death,
Here's hoping we will still be around when the 100-year secrecy act will end, to know what really happened
As some of the facts stated in the 4-part series leave some doubt & even more questions as to why certain steps were followed and other crucial steps completely ignored. For example why Himmler's body was left for 3 days in the same house.
Why would they have buried his body and the secrecy surrounding the burial site?
Why would the governing bodies deny reference to the brain and its whereabouts?
Honestly hope you find the answers.
Thank you for all your hard work (Mark Felton) and reporting on historical facts about the history of the world and specifically WW2

With regard to the release of the secret documents - I wouldn't hold your breath. UK Governments of all political persuasions have a history of simply extending the period before which documents can be released ... not having had any recourse to public scrutiny or discussion to arrive at such decisions. The 100-year period applied to these docs seems to suggest that information embarrassing to senior "important" people is being suppressed - the 100 year period generally thought to safely ensure that the persons concerned (and most direct relatives) would be safely in their graves by then and therefore beyond any kind of comment, retribution or justice.

It's very common for political regimes to destroy/hide the physical remains of powerful enemies. Burial sites can easily become shrines for future dissidents, and physical remains (relics) are hot targets for theft.

They would keep the burial sight secret for the same reason jimmy savile ended up in an unmarked grave in secrecy. The grave would be an open sewer, and the body would no doubt be dug up by someone wanting to desecrate it so he can't rest in piece.

That soldier was forced to take the part of Himmler or the soldier's FAMILY would be killed. No choice. I have been a Mark Felton fan for a long time, and this series on Himmler is exactly why. Mark is British, and I'm sure he is proud to be British, yet he still digs for information and presents that information even though it may be at odds with the "official" government stance. In other words, he is completely unbiased and is interested only in the truth of historical events. It is any wonder I trust his presentations?
