Your demo sounds way better than the video Walrus Audio made themselves. I was ready to write the pedal off after that, but this video got me interested again.
Thank you! Finally, someone did a review of the new reverb sounds. Currently own the original ACS1, and more so than the new amps, the upgrade on the Room knob was a point of interest whether to buy the mkII or not, so thank you for doing this!
Great sounding pedal Sir, But i am Just here for the Fantastic playing and the awesome personality Paul 👍 And that gibson Les paul you have is such a looker...My Dream guitar....one day though Paul..one day lol probably in another 5 years when i Hit 50, i may just bite the bullet and treat myself to a R9 heavy aged LP.
Really excellent pedal, sounds (agree with you - all except the Mesa), versatility, value. But...far more than all that, the intonation on your guitars is AMAZING. 👌🏼👍🏻
I have been through most of the modelers out there, and the ACS1 is noticeably better than my experience with any other. The control at the pedal is a huge part of the experience, too. Not needing a computer for 90% is incredible. I could go on and on. Maybe not for everyone, but worth every penny to me.
@@danamoose1234 from the audio demos it sounds really good but a Tonex pedal with some professional captures have the same High quality sound plus more FX and options. Almost at the same price there is also the new poly Ample that have 56 Amps and Even bass captures. IMHO this pedal should be 200 Dollars less to be competitive
Ok please excuse an old guy here..These amp SIM pedals in what way are they used..if I'm on stage with say a vox Ac and have this plugged in am I looking to turn my Vox AC into a marshall or a Mesa or a Hiwat at any moment I choose.? Or , is it to go into the desk at a gig and go through the PA (No amp on stage) or are these for home recording..am I missing something really obvious.?
Amp SIM pedals are primarily designed to be used for every application except going into the front end of an amp. The pedal colours signal like an amp would - going into the front of an amp with it would “double” colour it which usually isn’t desired. You can use them into an FX Return of an amp, but should make sure to have the pedal’s Cab IR toggled to off if your sound is coming out of a cabinet. I use them for direct recording or going direct to a PA Speaker or studio monitors.
All very well and good (and masterfully demonstrated), yet why and wherefore would such a device (at its high price point by today‘s standards) be the right choice over something like, say, the new Ample or a ToneX big box, or even the ToneX One (or even 2 ToneX Ones for greater versatility)? I have the original ACS1 with the updated firmware, and although nice, it‘s not nearly as viable for live performance as many other options out there. At half the asking price, it might still make sense, though.
Why is that about live performances? And the ample seems super confusing tons of options and you need to understand lights to know the settings it’s a bit much.
@@areallyboredguy5825 Yes, I agree that the Ample seems a bit confusing at first, but having watched a few videos about it, I can say with some degree of confidence that it isn‘t that difficult at all - and much easier than dealing with modelers with menus, extra apps or software, etc. You basically set each of the 50+ amps (or a smaller subset of those 50+ amps) to sound the way you want them to, and then you can easily switch them. It‘s not for people who want all kinds of different presets.
When I listen to a modeller, I always try to imagine I've paid the full amount for the real amp. Then, I measure how disappointed I would've been with the sound if had paid that much. Unfair I know. But, if I'm pleasantly surprised? As is the case with this pedal? It's a good modeller in my not so humble opinion.
I think it’s a mistake to listen to try and pack tons of amps and gain into this. If I want option overload there are way better choices. And I can put gain pedals in from of anything and get exactly the flavor gain I like. What I want is a very very faithful easy-to-use fantastic sounding base amp for everything else to work with.
There’s so many units coming out at the moment that choices become difficult. I have ordered the new white Tonex unit and now I’m wondering if the ACS1 would have been a better choice for pure amp sounds especially the cleans. What are the pickup’s in the Tele ?
I've got the mk 1 and love it. Fantastic pedal but tbh the upgrades seem pretty meaningless. Itsounds identical to me and It's easy to use. The LEDs on the first version are programmed to give you the same info that's on mk2s scribble strip anyway, you just twiddle knobs or switches and they blink when the current position matches the preset. Doesn't seem like a product that need to exist. Probably draws a bit more power now too.
Do you think so? I guess you don't find the reverb selections all that necessary then. How about the Presence and Resonance controls, or being able to bypass either IR or the amp? I'm actually looking forward to the firmware upgrade from 2.0. Heard a new one will be released around the same time.
@@wholewheaties basically no would be the short answer. I suspect they could have just dropped the price on the original and shifted more units to be honest. It just sounds good at the end of the day. Would have saved them a ton of work too.
@@distrustfulmonkey2832 cool cool. the only issue I have with the current one is the harmonic distortions when playing clean on Fullerton. most people didn't seem to notice or care, but I contacted Walrus and they admitted the issue and said was working on it. so yah, let's look forward to firmware 3.0!
@@wholewheatiesyou can bypass the IR on the mk1 acs1 as well. You hold the bypass button and turn the mid knob before 12 to turn it off and after 12 to turn it on.
Hi, In the video when you see the Red and Citrus models going through Cab 6, those amp models are going into a Vox 1x12 IR which will change the mid range drastically in not the best way. When you see the Tread going through Cab 1, that's a Dual Rec model going into a Fender 1x12 IR, which will also change the mid range drastically in not the best way. Unfortunately the IR list was not communicated properly and cabs 7-12 are barely shown here, which match with the new high gain amps. The best clip to reference is at 6:20 since that's running through a Mesa 4x12 IR in slot 7. Eric Johnson Engineer @ Walrus Audio

A brilliant commentary, you hit the nail right on the head!
The thing that make this outstanding some of its competitors is that you can okay to amps in stereo on acs1

Very nice but 499 euros is out of reach and probably the sound quality is not 3 times better than a Tonex One
Maybe, maybe not but the interface is worth something plus the lifetime warranty. Tonex is only two years. Also form factor!

Pretty great sounding pedal - gets the job done nicely and fits in the market. Not quite a home run like the Tonex though.
I have said before, the only way I would ever get rid of my ACS1 is if Walrus made a new one. Here we are and it's better than I expected!
Would love to hear you demo their reverb and delay boxes
Sounds decent mate, and seems really intuitive. Great review as always. 👍🏻🎸
