As an American I thought it would be fun to test my Norwegian knowledge today with a little quiz on Norway. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
The motto of Norway is not "Powered by nature". That's a tourism motto from Visit Norway. The actual motto is "Alt for Norge", which means "Anything for Norway".

Technically "Alt for Norge" is the Royal motto, it had been a tradition for Danish kings to have a motto, and so when King Haakon VII became King he chose that motto (his father was the King of Denmark).
The unusual thing is, is that both King Olav and King Harald also chose to use that motto.
Wikipedia says that we also have "Enige og tro til Dovre faller" ("Agree with each other and be faithful till Dovre falls")
You got it right about the continents. Europe is a part of Eurasia. Norway has dependencies in Antarctica so I guess technically that is correct too.
Eurasia is not often not considered a continent, but 2 continents Europe and Asia, but otherwise yes, Norway is a part of Eurasia. A bad question really, as Norway's dependencies in Antarctica is not really an international recognized part of Norway.
Dronning Maud land in Antartica that is. And the time zone question was kind of a follow up to that. The two time zones are mainland and Antarctica. Fun fact, though, is that the eastern parts of Finnmark is near the North pole where the timezones shrink over distance and should have been removed another time zone, as it is has noticeable earlier mornings. Also Bergen is in the GMT zone, geograpically.

Queen Maud land is very much Norway as a dependent territory. It borders the claimed British Antarctic Territory 20° west and the Australian Antarctic Territory 45° east. In addition, a small unclaimed area from 1939 was annexed in June 2015. Other claimed territories being Peter I Island and Bouvet Island. All 3 claimed territories are part of the part of the Antarctic Treaty System, so Very Much internationally recognized. The land is administered by the Polar Affairs Department of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security in Oslo

We don't really have a motto...? At least not an official one.
"Powered by nature" is more of a PR catchphrase if anything imo.
If you had to choose anything it would probably be "Alt for Norge" - "Everything for Norway" which has been chosen as the royal motto for the last three monarchs.
You could also go with "Enige og tro til Dovre faller" - "United and loyal until the mountains of Dovre crumble" which was an oath/pledge said during the writing of the constitution.

We actually have over 1300 different dialects parted in to 4 different groups. These groups are 'Northern Norwegian' (nordnorsk), 'Central Norwegian' (trøndersk), 'Western Norwegian' (vestlandsk), and 'Eastern Norwegian' (østnorsk).
Actually, Marianne Borgen is not the major of Oslo, she was, but last election it was a change and now the majors name is Anne Lindboe. We also have theee emergency numbers, 110 (fire) 112 (police) and 113 (med)

We are part of Antarctica because we have dependencies down there under Norwegian control called Dronning Maud Land.
Eurasia is the name for Europe and Asia combined since the continents are connected and are technically one big continent.
Dronning Maud Land just is a territorial claim, and is not an international recognized part of Norway.

Grading in Norway would probably be more like 40% = passing grade ("an "E"). 60% for D, 70% for C, 80% for B and 90% for A 😉

Hornindalsvatnet with a depth of 514 m. is Norway's and Europe's deepest lake, and the world's thirteenth deepest lake, as well as the lowest inland point (from what I know). It lies at 53 m.o.h.

The "lowest point is the norwegian sea" is a trick question, since sea level is 0 metres above sea level. I think it wants you to overthink it. Kinda mean of them tbh.

I would agree with you that Norway is a part of Europe and Eurasia if you had to choose two (Some scholars would rather want Eurasia than Europa + Asia, as they're obviously connected).
Queen Maud's Land, like every other dependent territorial claims by other nations in Antarctica, is not legitimate (de jure). It is not recognized in any official international capacity, it's just that many of these nations don't want to start a debate that could make their own claims illegitimate as well.

In Norway, the emergency numbers are: 110 (fire department) 112 (Police) 113 (Medical). If someone calls 911 from a cellphone in Norway, they will be redirected to 112 (Police). In a stressful situation its not that important to remember wich are fire, medic, or police. They will connect you to the right one anyway. We also have some other numbers: 1412 (the hearing impaired) 116 117 (For children when they need help regarding domestic violence, abuse, parental neglect etc)
Call 116 117 to get in touch with the emergency center in the area where you are staying.

The lowest level was kind of a trick-question.. we dont have any points below sealevel i guess,, like many conrtys do.
VAT = value added Tax (a consept totaly unheard of for moest Americans I presume. (unless your an ecconomist or something..)
Antartica is also kind of a trick question.. the Antartic treaty states that no claim are recognised by the signaturies, all claimes are "frosen", but Norway has got a claim to a sector called "Queen Mauds land"..

Queen Mauds Land are located in Antarctica (1/5 of the total landmass), and was registered as an addition to the norwegian territory in 1939 just days before Germany with Adolf Hitler tried to annex the territory themselves, and now Norway has a permanent science facility there. It borders the British part of Antarctica in the west and the Australian part of Antarctica in the east. Because of a treaty signed later on, none of the territories owners can claim it as a natural part of their country, and therefore it is now limited to scientific activity.

Bokmål and Nynorsk sre not dialects, but Written languages only. To simplify it, wevetite in those 2 but we all speak a dialect

Its not a big problem to get them mixed up, they can easily transfer you to the right one if you call the wrong one. But, 113 is for medical emergencies and 110 is for fire department.

We have a vast multitude of dialects, and no "standard" dialect. Bokmål and nynorsk are *only* written languages, though a few dialects do sound a bit like what one would think they sound like.

Norways lowest point is zero? That's an odd one. I would say the moment you have a lake or oceanfront your lowest point will be below sealevel.
The Netherlands have a oceanfront and do have a lower point than zero.

Who ever wrote tis quiz need to get back to school if you dont know Eurasia is the continent Europe is one part of. Antarctica is correct though. "Evig og tro til Dovre faller" (United and faithful (loyal) until Dovre falls(Crumble)) is a national motto of Norway. It derives from a quotation of the Constitutional fathers in the 1814 Eidsvoll oath. The oath was taken as a pledge after the negotiations at the National Assembly in Eidsvoll concluded on May 20, 1814..

The quiz is no longer correct about Marianne Borgen. All the alternatives were wrong as of now. So if you want, you can give yourself +1 right, since the quiz was wrong.
We have a close in age law in Norway as well, but the golden rule is your age divided by two add seven. Then it's nobody's business. That adds up to 16 / 2 +7=15. So June-December is ok, but May-December is a bit shady.

Edit: In the video it says "languages" instead of dialects? But that's also wrong. Norway has 1 *(ONE)* language and that is Norwegian. Then we have a crapton of dialects and sociolects.
Nynorsk is an artificial writing form, simplifying/"merging" a ton of dialects and make written communication easier. However it is _not_ a language, dialect or sociolect or, well, _anything._
People often write "slang" or their own dialect to friends etc. (yes even Oslonians and others from Southeast) however in official papers and articles, only Bokmål or Nynorsk is acceptable (Bokmål isn't a spoken form either by the way; the closest you get is "NRK-presenter-Norwegian" however very few realistically speak like that in daily life, even in Oslo).
I personally enjoy it when people speak or write in their "native" tongue, up until the point where I've stopped cognitively noticing where anyone's from. I must do an effort to cognitively listening for it and then ask where they're from (great success rate :) just don't get certain cities mixed up lol)
Her var det mye feil. Norge har 2 (TO) språk. Det ene (norsk) har to målformer: Bokmål og Nynorsk. Det andre (samisk) har tre målformer: Nordsamisk, Sørsamisk og Lulesamisk. Norsk har 2 dialektgrupper: Østnorsk/trøndersk og vestnorsk/nordnorsk. Og rundt regnet 300+ dialekter, litt mer en de 20 du nevnte. Hvordan er nynorsk mer kunstig en bokmål?

I don't like that when you hover your pointer over the questions, pictures appears. It feels like spoiling to the people who tries the quiz. Maybe they need them because the questions are mixing between children's simplicity and seemingly impossible questions with answers that makes no sense. And also, why do a random picures of Vestland, Hardingfele, etc showing up so much when the questions has nothing to do with them? This is one of the worst Norway quizes out there! If this website has a Canada and a UK quiz I hope he never come close to those ones because I can only imagine how they would look like!

Norwegian and Bokmå are NOT languages NOR dialects, they are written forms of Norwegian.

Tyler have, after years of watching videos still not retainmed the pronunciation of the letter ø or know that the final e in words are usually pronounced.
His knowledege of his own culture (Maundy Thursday [the day before Good Friday [where good means holy, nor good as apposed to ba], Whitsun) is bad - which probably does make him an ordinary, average American.

Whatever sea you choose to count as belonging to Norway, fjords on the west coast is often as deep or maybe even deeper than the mountains are high. So the lowest level cannot be zero.
Powered by Nature is that a translation of "Evig og tro til Dovre faller" I didn't know we had a motto, but if that's it, it's from Eidsvoll 1814. The translation is not a translation at all.

And that is exactly the attitude that keeps the level of knowledge in the US at a constant low level, of which you are an excellent example.
