    Great video, was tossing up between the EV-5 and a Moog EP-3. Will go the Moog for sure now. Saved me some time and money, thanks!

    Like one of your other commentators I have also had a couple of these expression pedals since the late eightys early ninetys without any maintenance and also a couple of Fv volume pedals (three of them) and they are regularly used on different boards and applications and they are still going strong.
    You can always loose the excess cable under your board.
    The double footswitch uses the same component parts as fitted to the gt10 and recent ME pedals, they have done this reuse of components for accessories for years with the previous design actually looking much better than these current ones.
    As always keep up the good work, great videos from NAMM by the way.

    FS-7 is designed to be part of line of new Boss products. It`s not qwestion of being ugly or beautiful, It`s qwestion of your misunderstanding. E.g. It fits perfectly to Boss GP-10 wich has same shaped metal body and same "ugly" plastic knobs and they are very comfortable actually. IF YOU DON`T LIKE IT, SELL IT TO ME

    The 2 EV-5's I have on my pedalboard are from 1993, and they actually endured for over 20 years. I use a dab of silicone on each rubber foot and its not moving on my deck. I use one on my EHX Memory Boy and one on my EHX Big Muff Deluxe.
    I haven't bought a new one so I don't know if they are better or worse in construction now, however it does look the same.

    I have 2 EV-5 pedals on my board and they've got velcro on the bottom. I took the rubber feet off (of course) and they've never budged. I agree that it would be smarter to make the bottom flush and have recessed screws but it really isn't a big deal on these.

    The EV-5 was originally designed and sold as an expression pedal for keyboard players using Roland keyboards. Roland's web site explains that the extra long cord is to reach a stacked keyboard (such as multiple keyboards on a Z-shaped stand). Roland (via Boss) makes other expression pedals designed and sold with guitar players using Boss guitar effects pedals in mind. ;

      It seems to me that the FS-7 is also optimised for a Keyboard or Steel player, not meant for pedalboards and guitarists. It looks to be offering good access if it was squoze onto a board however...
      The Boss EV-30 looks pretty good, Aluminium chassis and dual control!

    Usually, you are very kind to the manufacturer... this time, even though it's Boss / Roland, you let go with both guns.
    Keep up the good work!

      +Craig Parse These are not bad pedals, but you have to wonder who designs these and who thinks it is necessary to create such a monstrosity for a dual switch... if I didn't ask that you guys would question my sanity.

    Hey Henning, have you ever heard of a Boss JS-10? if not, would you ever consider trying one out at some stage? They're basically an all in one guitar practice solution. Its got everything from guitar tones to backing tracks to recording your riffs into it and a load more. Granted its not a recent product but I gotta admit, its one of the best pieces of gear I've bought in the last 20+yrs of guitar playing. Hopefully, you'll enjoy this. Cheers! :)

    What a super overview especially as I have been meaning to get the Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal for my keyboard for sometime now having seen some rather excellent reviews on it ages back. Pretty sure this is the same pedal as it's the same price. Just looking how it's built as put me right off it and even the frigging free footswitch that came with my keyboard is built better than that ffs. I could get a bloody wah wah pedal for my guitar for half that price and it would be made out of METALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL and a nice bit of rubber (LOL). Really bad from Roland I have to say and they are normally on the ball.

    I got my ES-8 a few weeks ago and I'm still not done setting it up. It's taking forever because I'm still uncertain as to how everything will function or how I will program the thing. A set of tutorials would be great! Right now, I'm trying to figure out if I can use both the volume fx loop thing and my volume pedal at the same time. If I do that, won't I lose my ability to move the volume pedal around as I desire?

    that review reminds me of a review of a Porsche many years ago that complained about the the lack of leather in the cockpit but ignored how it performed on a track or everyday driving in car lovers. I don’t give a damn about plastic (are you old enough to remember problems that certain metals caused in electronic products? But I would be fine hearing you say you don’t like plastic (with all due respect to “The Graduate) bu I don’t even know how these pedals perform compared to advertising claims. So to stretch the metaphor please tell me if the functionality is unacceptable or whether other products outperform them at lower cost. Let your viewers decide whether they want plastic, brushed aluminum, or platinum. What the heck does that pedal do, and are there other products we should look at that will perform better. Just to be upfront I have one of those in my home music room a couple of Casio “sustain” pedals, and a bunch of other expensive pedals that I cannot say what I would like to do with. So a bad pedal day for me, but trying to end positively Boss GT1 guitar effect pedal works great for keyboards/synths and using my older guitar pedals on my older keyboards produced amazing sounds. Unknown to keyboard players have been doing this for years but now the forego the presets and really learn how to modify sound is an advance for the field. And I am not using the best that Boss/Roland, EH , Harmonix, etc produces. So dump the lousy performing pedals, but the fact that some are plastic may allow 70 yo guys like me continue to play music in our home without having to sell the home for keyboard or guitar effect gear, although if you keep going Roland it’s expensive. In everything I purchased from them, except that damn pedal wasting away in my basement the initial cost was irrelevant because the product outperformed many of my other brands over 6 decades. So now this old guy will go put a hammer to the pedal of unknown talents. I still have y Boss GT1 and their VE8 both of which perform great despite one having plastic and the other metal.

    Less of cats and entertainment and more of the critique of the FS7 please! None of you guys show the pedal actually being operated by the foot. which I find astonishing. The FS7 is very difficult to use as you have to lift your foot off the floor to depress pedal B. For older players you can lose balance and hence control. I have both the Boss FS7 and FS6 and the larger FS6 is much easier to use as the heel anchors the foot. With expression pedals it is a different ballgame - the pivot acts as an anchor for the foot.
