I cried watching this because I can relate to nadine. Being in this world and feeling like an alien in your own skin; i felt like I’ve watched my miserable self and my life flashed in front of me all throughout this movie and I realised I’m just like her minus the ending ofc. I’m not quite there yet.
Same, I'm a dude but I find myself own life highly relatable to hers. I don't know how to come to solace like she did in the film, maybe I should think less of myself, just be content and relax.
Review: The movie is really good , it has the right percentage of humour in it and the storyline is pretty good. The main character is a relatable person which made me want to watch it even more .The acting is a great 10/10 and so is the movie. Could watch it all over again 100 times. I would highly recommend watching it to all movie lovers out there!
Just finished watching this INCREDIBLE movie. I can’t even put into words how much I felt it! I remember being 17 and relating to all the things Nadine went through, it was the WORST. I had only one friend for almost 13 years and then one day we just stopped talking and our friendship ended (cause of a stupid reason) then I ended up being alone. I was constantly feeling lonely. I really had no one to talk to. I started to isolate myself from literally everyone cause I just couldn’t find someone who really understands me. I felt like NOBODY liked me or wanted to even talk to me. I hated EVERY SINGLE THING about myself. My voice, the way I looked, my height I HATED THEM. I was scared that people would actually see me the way I saw myself, I was really terrified. I still can’t control some of them but I can say that I’m glad I’ve improved most of my insecurities.
Just finished watching this movie. I loved this film so much. I thought it was going to be your typical teeanage film that tried too hard to be cool and hip, but it really wasn't. It was one of the most raw, emotional, and genuine movies I've seen this year. They portrayed depression so well, from having that lingering sadness inside you although you had the things which made you seem fine. I related to Nadine so much on so many things that it hurt. I cried so many times throughout this movie because it reflected a bit of my own life as well. I cannot begin to comprehend how thankful I am for this film, for how real, sad, and sweet it is. I know a lot of teenagers could benefit greatly from watching this. Watching Nadine become happy in the end and discovering more of herself did thrilling things to my heart. Although she is a fictional character, I hope all "Nadine's" in this world find their path of light. What a beautiful movie about friendship, family, love, and happiness.
I just saw the film tonight and I absolutely agree! This is one of the best films I've seen in a long long time. The only other film of the past few years I've seen which also impressed me this much was "Perfect Sense" starring Ewan Mcgregor. But with this Edge of Seventeen film, I'm so glad I randomly found it on Netflix, and because I love Woody Harrelson, I gave it a shot and was beyond impressed with this extremely heartfelt and relatable film (and I'm a 24 year old guy!). This is truly one of those films where I think there is something for everyone (Teenagers, Adults, Men, Women). It's not just a frivolous teen movie. I think viewers will find moments they can relate to from past experiences, or characters they connect with or that remind them of people they know. I'm not easily impressed by very many movies. But this movie is in my own opinion of top 10 or 15 films I've ever seen.
Hailee Steinfeld is truly one of the most talented young actresses/performers that have emerged in the recent years. Her performances in True Grit and Ender's Game were incredible, and gave the world their first real exposure to how talented she is. For it takes someone truly talented to even outshine Jeff Bridges as "Rooster Cogburn".
This movie made me feel a crowd of emotions like one second I was cringing so hard I cried and the next I was like laughing and then I was crying again cause (not gonna spoil it) end of sentence. And then I was happy again love this movie a lot
This movie is amazing. Very underrated! Everyone did so great in it, including Ms. Hailee Steinfeld herslef! Woody Harrelson made for a very likeable teacher, the script and dialogue was intriguing, and the score really added a lot. But what makes this movie so great is how relatable it is. I really recommend the watch!
I was 25 when this movie came out, and I wish it came out when i was 17! I can totally relate to this movie, and i did experienced an identical situation when I was in my 16-17 phase year (sibling rivalry, friends betraying, and family problems, and also telling my teacher everything whats happening in my life). I was always in constant argument with both my parents.
because that's just how the film industry works. If it didn't have some hot famous girl in it, they think if they don't put in some big hotshot actress/actor then they won't get enough money to make a decent amount of money. and maybe one day it will be different but unfortunately, that's the way it works.
I feel like this movie will definitely have some good moments worth some form of a watch but like all teen movies fall flat by the end. So basically I'm saying it looks ok...
i love this movie so much!! why did I just watch it now?? but it felt like it came to me at the right time. i cried my eyes out and it feels soo satisfying. thank youuu
I very much recommend this movie, and don't let the trailer fool you, this isn't your average American high school comedy, it's pretty emotional and depressing and for once a very realistic representation of real life!
Idk why Iam crying in the middle part until the end of this movie, its so hearbreaking, Im feeling like this movie pretty close like my life but yeah this is movie with happy ending, Im just waiting when the happiest part come to me, but this is really good to watch, Iam happy she find her confidence and someone who love her
Stumbling thru the growing up process.. thumbs up for this great illustration! Of how getting from total self-focus to new perspective on life, love, and What Matters ain't easy - but has to occur, no way around it.
I loved watching this movie. I thought it would be another cliché comedy/drama movie, but I was pleasantly surprised that this move is actually very heartwarming. It's relatable and it will make you cry, but at the same time I couldn't help but laugh at the witty and quirky characters!
It kind of annoys me because they always chose actors/actresses who are so attractive to play outcasts who are like "oh we arent pretty we're too ugly to be popular" its just so annoying!
I watched this movie and it is amazing. I was really able to connect to it, I cried throughout the entire thing and at the end. (Happy tears at the end.)
I love this movie so much, I've watched this twice and never get bored, Nadine sometimes represented me as insecure girl's who need to growing up to be mature, but look I hate her bestfriend so much , I don't even know why -_-
i liked the movie. cant understand the comments about hating Krista (Nadine's best friend). nobody owns friends and how can you not be happy if they fall in love. Probably a lot of people here with the same problems like Nadine who think everything is about themselves.
krista pisses me off. she gaslighted her bestfriend the whole time, when she’s the person in the wrong for f-ing her bsfs brother and says she’s sorry and then continues f-ing the brother and ditches her friend to hang out with the weird “popular” people.
A great movie! Im just so happy they made it. I though it wouldn't be that good. I felt her in so many ways and enjoyed how complicated she is. Finaly a smart teenager on a movie 😍
Everyone's sarcastically like "wow a middle class privileged white girl and the world is so unfair!" it's like well dude everyone's born with a different hand of cards. If you applied that concept to every movie, everyone would generally be ungrateful
To me, this was more than just a movie, it was an exhibition of the psychology of several characters, and at the same time, help the audience understand Nadine. At the beginning of the movie, Nadine seems like a typical and normal teenager. We see this mostly when she was with Krista, because Krista is more of a norm in the sense that she’ll fit in with a bigger crowd. When she’s not around Krista, Nadine is socially awkward and inept and it’s a very big problem. Also, even though Krista was basically the only person who fully understood Nadine, she wasn’t meant to be a very interesting character. We’re meant to see Krista through Nadine’s eyes *after* she finds her with Darian. She sees Krista as just another person she talks down about because she associates with her brother, whom she despises. Darian sees Nadine’s act as a joke and he intentionally tries to provoke her into arguing with him so he can humiliate her for behaving like a 5 year old. However, he sees that it’s an actual problem when she reminds him of when their dad passed away. After that, he doesn’t want to provoke her anymore because he knows it’s not a joke to her and he just wants to feel like the bigger person… and let’s be real, he’s a mama’s boy. But overall, he’s not *as* bad as Nadine makes him out to be, but until the end of the movie, he really doesn’t care about her, other than the fact that bringing her home will win him big cool points with their mom. At the end of the movie, we see how he changes as well when he sees that he’s the first person Nadine opened herself up to about how she sees herself and how embarrassed she is. He understands her as well as Krista does, he’s just seen more of her bad side and thought it was fun to harmlessly provoke her. Mr. Bruner and his wife basically try to teach Nadine to roll with things instead of pontificating everything and stressing out about how much it annoys her. That’s why he talks to Nadine the way he does and doesn’t actually scold her even though she annoys him with childish insults. He actually understands her, but he’s not gonna entertain her melodrama because 1. he’s too old to deal with it and 2. he’s trying to show her that he just rolls with things until they go away, and he’s not gonna snap even he’s annoyed. In the end, you can bet that he actually understands her, because in 2 decades of teaching you knows he’s heard the same song at least 20 times. Irwin is a genuinely nice guy. At first he comes off as socially awkward because we’re seeing him through Nadine’s eyes (as someone she clicks with) but in reality, he just doesn’t understand her. She sees him as someone who’s as socially awkward as she is and feels like she can be open with him… which she can because he’s a very open minded person. By the end of the movie we see how he has a big social circle and he knows that Nadine would fit in. In retrospect, we can assume that he would take time out of his day to hang out with Nadine because he’s the kind of friend who’ll be there for another friend in need. And let’s be honest, he was busy a few times. Nick is less of a character and more of a plot device to show us just how embarrassed Nadine is of herself. The scene where he and Nadine are in his car was particularly hard to watch. Not only because the sexual tension felt real, but because this is where Nadine’s awkward side takes control and freaks out. We see how embarrassed she is as she tries to cool things down with Nick and it escalates into her social insecurity taking over and yelling at him. She’s aware of how socially awkward she is.
This movie tells so much about me. My best friend is now married to my brother. They strated doing stuff when i entrudonce them but i’m okay with it. Tho some things are changed.
The sad part about all of this that everything that she going through in her life i'm going through it in my 22 while she 17 while i'm waiting for my happy ending Sorry for my bad english
This movie is one of my favourites. They should have considered doing character development for the mother and the brother especially the brother. He ended up looking like a jerk even after the end of the movie.
Yeah the mom's and brother's development I feel was cut short especially since they didn't really start to fully appear til the latter half of the movie. I wish there was more to expand on them
I was the friend in this senario that happened with my friend and her twin brother. He had a crush on me and she actually told me that I should dare him because "if we got married we'd be sisters" well, we ended up falling in love and getting married. She wasn't very happy about it. I never could understand.
Ok, this trailer didn’t do the movie justice. I AM Nadine and I related to her character on an unhealthy amount. I’ve been told being a teenager is a beautiful time and I should be happy. Being a teenager sucks so hard, Disney and other studios make it seem glamorous. After having a horrible anxiety attack, I just couldn’t go to school, and felt horrible and just couldn’t live with myself. I luckily had a teacher who saw I was struggling and had to stay in the office for the whole school day just because I couldn’t live with myself being in a classroom with kids not knowing what they were thinking of me being all sad and with red eyes and my mom couldn’t pick me up. Unlike Nadine, my best friend lives thousands of miles away and I have to be alone. The scene where she told her teacher about wanting to kill herself and overthinks was what I was thinking sitting in the school office so anxious, I wanted to die and felt ashamed of who’ve I become and was hyperventilating. Also the scene where Nadine goes to a party and just stands alone with no one is so relatable since I have to go to school fairs and deal with me being alone. Hollywood needs to rethink what being a teenager was like because it’s horrible. At the end, where she gets better gave me hope. I know I’ll find my happy ending just like Nadine since I’m just starting to grow up and it will get better.
I can tell I'm going to love this movie just because of the teacher.
lol same here :)
Haymitch
And I'm pretty sure he's the guy from zombie land! And I love that movie

Why, in every movie about an average teenager who is struggling with life, does the actress have to be Hollywood style beautiful
thats why is called a Teen movie...
There's no such thing as Holylywood beautiful, if you ask me.

Hollywood style beautiful kids can't have tough lives? That's really insensitive Olive Night

This movie was surprisingly great. Hailee Steinfeld nailed it.
Growing up is realizing that her best friend and mother were the worst possible people in her life.
Thankyou. And the fact that her brother was one of the worst "type" of people you can encounter.

So Im finally gonna watch this movie that suprisingly is on Netflix today.

Hailee is such a good actress omg
hailee is attractive even when playing as an outcast character ❤️
While watching this I had to pause and go to youtube and watch cooking clips cause I was just crying watching this and it hurts.
I wish there was more to expand on them
i cried rivers after watching this...

I would be so mad if my best friend slept with my brother without even telling me she liked him. I wouldn't be friends with her anymore either.

0:48 Is that Alex from Supernatural? I don't remember when he went to highschool.
I Really Want To See This Movie So Much!
So apparently she doesn't age she looks exactly the same in Hawkeye
