i saved a turtle from the highway last week...felt right
So he holds a marine life in his bare hand and feeds the turtle but says never touch a marine animal you can infect with human bacteria. I guess the bacteria must be digested if eaten.
Turtles are certainly dependable companions. They deserve so much love.
This is a wild sea turtle though, not a companion or a pet. This guy and his students really should have left the turtle alone altogether, he points out the dangers of sharing human bacteria with them but then proceeds to put his hands all over her food. And making her more comfortable around divers has now put her in danger of interacting with poachers who will taxidermy her and sell her. So he's put her life in danger twice now.

Safety tip: Tie clear plastic bags into a knot, 'cause sea turtles see them and think they're jellyfish! Esp. the bags that veggies and fruit come in, from the produce department. I just learned this recently and have been doing it m'self! Also, this was a great video! I adore turtles and tortoises, no matter where they are. I'd so love to see a sea turtle!

I wonder if the turtle thought the diver was just another (giant) turtle/sea creature that needed to eat, as well. That was so cool that she shared her meal once she knew the giant creature wasn't a threat. Turtles are so cool!

Yes, it is also illegal in Hawaii to touch a sea turtle. There is quite a hefty fine. This is also a perfect demonstration on how turtles mistake plastic bags for jellies.

Thank you for pointing this out! While this video may seem very cute, please, please, NEVER feed wildlife or engage in behavior that makes them comfortable around humans. That sea turtle might start to seek out people now, anticipating food, and may become injured by people or their boats.
Be responsible and give the animals their space. Observe them, watch them, and don't try to approach, feed, or touch them.
while this is another example of animals who exhibit emotion, intelligence, etc. It is NOT a good thing to be disturbing any animal in the wild, or for humans to be feeding them. If the animal cannot fend for itself, or is trapped somehow, that is a when - maybe human intervention/rescue may be warranted.

What can I do to help protect Florida's sea turtles?
Do not feed sea turtles or other wildlife. This encourages them to approach people in high traffic areas.
Also:
IT’S ILLEGAL
You don’t want your social media posts of wildlife to make headlines for the wrong reasons! Attempting to touch wildlife doesn't just disrupt the animals’ normal feeding, breeding, and sheltering behaviors, they are illegal and punishable by law. Many of them are protected under the Endangered Species Act and are also sacred to their community’s cultural heritage. It’s illegal to touch, feed, or harass them, and there will be consequences.
That is from the NOAA. you may want to familiarize yourself with laws specifically regarding marine wildlife and specifically endangered marine wildlife if you are in the US. for anywhere else I could not say what the laws are, but my point here is not that that it is illegal but that it DOES harm these turtles in several ways which is WHY these laws are in place.
I just saw a video of a turtle being rescued by a shark and then sharing the jellyfish with the diver who saved it. It used clips from this video.

As cute as this video may seem, this man has endangered this turtle's life twice. One, he points out you shouldn't touch wild marine animals, but keeps touching the jellyfish she's eating. Second, his question at 0:44 of how he can make the turtle more comfortable around the divers, the answer to that should have been to leave the turtle alone altogether. It's dangerous for wild animals, especially sea turtles, to get comfortable around humans. Sea turtles have and currently still are poached, taxidermied, and sold, you can probably find them online if you looked right now. They need to be allowed to fear and avoid humans for their own safety. This was incredibly irresponsible of him and for the love of god, please do not do the same if you go diving yourself. Outside of helping them when they're stuck in garbage, please leave wild animals alone.

I think this is a lot of anthropomorphizing going on. I think the turtle was just noticing that you weren't attacking, and were helping to hold the jellyfish in such a way that you made it easier to get a grip on and tear up to eat. That's it. The turtle probably followed to see if you knew where any more food was.
You should not make a wild animal feel comfortable with you. Yes, it is cute; but it is not safe for the animal. It is also illegal in America to touch sea turtles. .
I hope that you take some of your time to do ocean and beach clean-ups for the sake of marine animals. Thank you!
I wonder if the turtle was young enough to still be with his mother, but had lost mom, and he was attaching a bit to the instructor as a "surrogate " to follow? I don't know anything about sea turtles but I wonder why the connection. It's really sweet.

These are different videos. The turtle that was saved never brought back a jellyfish to the guy, that was a different turtle and a different diver. What’s worse is the idiots in these comments who think this is real.
It should be moved to a safer sea, that turtle probably lost its way, good job guys

All the turtles i see always bolt as soon as they’re aware of me. Usually i come upon them sleeping. I would say this is a unusual and special experience. I hope i can have a encounter like this some day. I’ve had 2 experiences with squid that were unreal. I view all life as intelligent.
Never touch marine life or you could infect them he says. So the turtle eats the rest of the jelly fish you held. Why can’t divers just watch and not interfere, not feed, just watch. They’re marine life not our temporary pets so you can say oh how wonderful it did this and that with us. Just leave them alone!
