I just got the jbl 2.1 deep Bass in korea for 210usd. The Bass on this is serious. It definitely drops low. For the price I doubt it can be beat. I do wish it had side firing speakers or something. The soundstage feels pretty narrow for movies. It really shines for rap, edm, club type music. The remote is pretty bad, only seems to work within 3ft or less directly pointed to the middle. hey there. Nice video. Thanks for the detailed review. I have one question: What is the difference between this soundbar and the older JBL 2.1 soundbar?
Hi. Did you find out about the difference ? I ordered the newer version but Amazon sent the older version with older remote etc. I am trying to figure out if the newer version is actually better or not ? Sometimes newer is not = better !
Just got one of these, the sound is incredible! But they should have included an old school headphone type jack for sound in. I can't even connect this to my older TVs, looks like I'll need a new TV now too lol
Great video. Fast forward 2 years, is this still the best soundbar for excellent bass that can now be bought for £200 or is there better options available?! Thanks.
Hello, how would you compare the overall sound quality between JBL 2.1 Deep Bass and JBL 5.1 Surround? You made the JBL 5.1 Surround review earlier and you were not happy with the mids over there - are they similar to the JBL 2.1 Deep Bass? I'm leaning towards the more surrousd sound option in the JBL 5.1 Surround and some bass is much appreciated, but for sure I am not a bass maniac. What would you recommend? Your reviews are nicely user oriented and thorough Keep up the good job!!
Heya! Glad you like my reviews, thanks for the kind comments. Well the difference is: the price. At the higher price tag you'd expect better mids, unfortunately that's not really the case with the 5.1, whereas for the price of the 2.1 you don't expect a perfect tone throughout the frequency range. Essentially to answer your question: the 2.1 isn't better, it's differently worse than the 5.1. However, when you factor in the price difference at least at the time of making the videos, the 2.1 makes for an excellent buy, while the 5.1 has some competition from other brands. Hopefully that makes sense?
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks for the answer :) I am getting a really good discount together with a TV and can buy the JBL 5.1 Surround even cheaper than the JBL 2.1 Deep Bass standard price. I’m not able to put a surround system in the room and would love to have some surround sound. In this price range is there any surround soundbar which you could reccomend? Not believing the whole Dolby Atmos from a soundbar too much, but maybe you have a different opinion?
@@NoSo22 oh Atmos makes a world of difference if you have the appropriate setup. For example, the Samsung N850 does an unbelievable job. Cheap Atmos systems however are a waste of time. FYI, to benefit from Atmos or DTS:X, you will need to have a source that uses it. Ie. A film using the metadata. Atmos won't work on normal terrestrial TV for example. That aside, check my suggestions in the 5.1 video's description. If you can find or get the Samsung Q70R then that'd be my top pick at that price point. No idea how it'll be with the discount you're getting.
Awesome review! How would you compare this and the JBL 300 Soundbar? I'm tossing up between the two of them, for movies and music. Would love to hear your perspective having used both of them??
Great review, thanks! However, I am a bit worried about the bass settings. I am afraid that low could be not enough and medium already too much - I live in a block, should I go for another soundbar that has bigger variety of bass settings? If so, which one? Thanks!
I’m torn between this and the JBL 5.1 Soundbar which you made a great review on as well. Where I’m from the price difference of the two is about $100 where the JBL 2.1 Deep Bass is cheaper, the 5.1 is on sale right now. Given that, it seems the 5.1 makes a better deal since it’s now below the $400 mark and only about $100 more than the 2.1ch. But given the things you mentioned about the 5.1 soundbar I’m not certain if getting that would be better suited for me. I like bass but I don’t want it to overpower the mids especially the dialogues when I watch films. The other thing is that the 5.1 soundbar is about 1 inch longer than the rack I’ll be placing it on which is kind of annoying... I guess my question is, would it be a big downgrade if I choose to get the 2.1 deep bass and will that be a setback for me when I watch films over the 5.1? Or would it be better to get the 5.1 soundbar given the price it’s at right now and will it be significantly better than the 2.1 deep bass? Thanks for your advice!
Hard one to call, especially as you know both for their purpose (and know my verdict for both). I think it's worth getting the 5.1 imo, on the whole it'll be a better experience, at least that's what I would do.
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks for the quick reply. I was gravitating toward the 5.1 as well. Amidst the overpowering bass you mentioned, I think overall that would be the only drawback. Seems there’s more positives than negatives over the 2.1. Plus, it’s in a way future proofing the sound system at home. Appreciate your help! Keep on churning out the great reviews, very helpful!
@@gray03 exactly my thoughts :)! And pleasure, glad you like the reviews. Btw, if you're buying via Amazon, links in the description of any of my videos will give me commission (to any product).
Thanks, my sister just bought 2 of these with 300 watts each and I am to set them up for her. We haven't unboxed yet. I wonder if it has HDMI ARC input.
Just taken delivery of this, I'm a big fan of jbl products havung the original flip, charge 4, Pulse 4 and Partybox 100. I was convinced this would be the right choice for me. Previously I had the JBL SB450 soundbar, I didn't want to replace this as I'm convinced good ampage is better than tech. The SB450 cirtainly had enough punch for a listener to feel. Straight out of the box I have to say I'm disappointed. I played the mezzanine gun seen from the matrix and some fight scenes from John wick and didn't move me in the same way. There is alot to like, it's clearer and probably gives a better surround effect, however it appears they've alterrd their sound profiles to pronounce the highs alot more. Base low sounds tinny, base mid sound ok in a balanced sense and base high is what I would say is acceptable. I paid £250 and against other £250 bars it probably fairs well. I wouldn't pay £300 though, it just dosen't cut it imo. Sorry.
@@TotallydubbedHD I'm obviously comparing it to my previous SB450. This dosen't have half the punch that had. I think half the reason was the sub was bigger and you could adjust both the crossover and bass on it. JBL stopped the 3.1 leaving the expensive 5.1. I think if I'd gone to a shop and heard it, I'd never had bought it perhaps going with the Yamaha alternative. This is the first jbl product I am disappointed with.
@@TotallydubbedHD you are right, but under these covid times, would've been a bit of a pain. I'm keeping it for now and perhaps see if I can upgrade later in the year. You could do a comparison between this and a used SB450. They are available 2nd hand for around £200, alternatively a comparison between this, the 5.1 and similar Yamaha offering.
After weighing this up further, this is my view, taken from the Lobby scene in the Matrix- when Neo and trinity enter the lobby through the doors, that is about what I expect. But when the action stsrts after they pass the matel detectors, it struggles. I don't get the same hit as the soldiers round the corner with their foot steps, there isn't the same oomph as the guns fire, the sub struggles to move into a deeper sub base to hit me, I just don't any feeling. It sounds very flat imo. It might be a shortcoming of a sub that only goes to 40hz. I think my decision is made and I'll be getting a Yamaha YAS 209.
That Q60T is going for $249.00 Locally with subwoofer the 8500 add-on speakers are an extra 139.00 US $ ...Wondering is the Samsung a good choice for use with TV 's other than Samsung?
Hi TotallydubbedHD, I’m looking to purchase a soundbar with subwoofer. The JBL 2.1 Soundbar Deep Bass and the Majority Sierra 2.1.2 soundbar has caught my eye. I’ve watched your reviews on both these soundbars which one would you recommend is best for music listening.
I'd never suggest running a soundbar on Bluetooth - of course you can, but you'll be getting inferior audio quality and one that's limited by the Bluetooth standard. It'll get plenty loud, however.

Thank you for the fantastic review. I have a few questions. 1. I am in perplex choosing between bose TV speaker and this JBL deep bass which are more or less similar budget. Hope you can help making the decision. 2. Does jbl deep bass has dialogue mode? Which seem significant for bose users. If not, does that make the jbl downgrade? 3. Physical botton in jbl seems a plus point?
Glad you liked the review! 1. Not tried the Bose, so can't comment. 2. Don't think it does from memory, other than what was shown on the video. 3. At the top of the bar? Yup, but also pretty redundant.
I'm between this and the Samsung Hw-t550 2.1 (with DTS-X). I have a Samsung TV so I think it'd be good to control everything with one remote control but I'm more worried with the sound quality (especially for movies). Do you have any thoughts that would help me? Which one do you recommend?
@@jonathanhelland5791 Hey mate. I love them hey. The sound when watching movies encapsulates you - especially action movies with Helicopters and bullets etc. and when listening to live performances, it feels like you're there. For $400 AUD, it was well worth the money!!
@@TotallydubbedHD you mentioned early in the review the JBL 2.1 and in another review - (without the deep base) you said is a bit confusing how its named and dont mix it up with the JBL 2.1 So my question is have you reviewed the earlier model.

Argh! 😂 I'm torn between this model, and the Yamaha YAS-209 in the 2.1 speaker market. Any opinion on the Yamaha? Haha! Glad you liked the review. Not sure about the Yamaha. I have reached out to them and haven't heard back yet. I most definitely wouldn't get the LG however (from prior experience from their bars and even the reviews you see online of them)
@@TotallydubbedHD Reviews for the Yamaha are generally positive. I've not seen any reviews for the SN7Y, although I have seen one for the SN7CY, which is the non-subwoofer version of the SN7Y. The main complaint was the lack of bass 😂 Which LG bars have you tried?
How would this sound bar compare to the new Bose TV speaker? Because from experience Bose audio quality is significantly better than JBL but, Bose lacks base compared to JBL since you need a additional module for the bar if you really want to enchase the base.

Thanks buddy! As for the music, haha - I'm looking for alternatives as well, however, in terms of copyright, that's where movies/regular mainstream music causes problems. As for bass - this and pretty much all the soundbars I've reviewed won't compete with the level of bass quantity of the Z906
Bought this one today and even though i do like the sound and bass of it, i can't help but think if i should have bought the 5.1 version. Do you think the surround sound of 5.1 does work as it is intended to and would enhance the overall experience?
Artificially, as in upmixing - the 5.1 is a great soundbar, although, at its price there are some alternatives to consider (like the Samsung Q70R), For the price of the 2.1, you can't beat it. It's almost always the case with audio gear - spend more and you'll get more lol
After researching many sound bars, I decided on this one as a gift for my boyfriend. The TV is in his living room which is open concept with high ceilings (20ft). Will this affect the performance at all?
@@TotallydubbedHD Yes, of course. So would it be better going with something higher in watts (say the 550) in this type of room or will it not make much difference?
@@jackieverner6022 not really, Watts are mainly associated with the subwoofer, not the bar itself. What would make a difference is a soundbar with sideward and upward firing speakers to fill the room so to speak. Still, I think the purchase you've made is really nice, and I think he'll appreciate it :)
Hi, I have a question. I currently have the Bar 2.1, not the deep bass version. This one has the Auto Off Bug, where the bar turns off automatically if the sound is too quiet or completely off. So it takes about 2 seconds until the sound is back. So the sound is always cut off, which just ruins the sound experience. Is this bug also present in the deep bass version? The bug always occurred in PCM mode, so it would be good to know if this bug has been fixed with the new model.
@@TotallydubbedHD Thank you for your reply, really appreciate it. One more question. Power of JBL 2.1 is 300W compare to Yamaha YAS207/209 is 200W. Can you recognize missing 100W in “real life” while listening to Yamaha?
Hello! thanks for the good review! I have a room of 25m + kitchen. I have a Denon dht-s316 soundbar and I had a samsung t550 for a while. you can hear the bass well in both of them, but I miss it more juicy, able to go lower. I'm thinking about jbl 2.1 deep bass and the Q60T. Same price. in which bass will do a greater wow effect. will 5.1 really be more tangible to the scene? (No walls around, just 1 behind) I love the dtsx option, but the t550 soundbar didn't impress me too much. Some bands were improved, and others, for me, a little distorted. thank you!
Heya, glad you liked the review! That's a hard question to answer, as I've not tried the others to compare. In terms of bass, I'd say the JBL is more powerful than the Q60T, however, the overall soundstage is bettered on the Samsung Vs the more uni-directorial JBL. I guess if I were in your shoes I'd look into the JBL more, further, you might want to just get the JBL 5.1 instead, if it's budget as its bass presence is even greater.

@@NoSo22 oh Atmos makes a world of difference if you have the appropriate setup. For example, the Samsung N850 does an unbelievable job. Cheap Atmos systems however are a waste of time.
FYI, to benefit from Atmos or DTS:X, you will need to have a source that uses it. Ie. A film using the metadata. Atmos won't work on normal terrestrial TV for example.
That aside, check my suggestions in the 5.1 video's description. If you can find or get the Samsung Q70R then that'd be my top pick at that price point. No idea how it'll be with the discount you're getting.

totallydubbedHD thanks. Quick question: do you still think the Samsung HW-Q80R is the best soundbar today?? Without the rear speakers that is..

Hi! Great review, does it support netflix dolby surround? Or does it only support stereo?
Thanks! You'd have to check with Netflix/the shows as to which does/doesn't!
Sorry.
Odd to hear that, I didn't have a similar experience!
@@timothyhewitt6736 sad to hear! You can always return it?
