Hi, thank you for your video.
In terms of location and applying for a self-employed visa, from your experience would your say the 'Canary Islands' is better to move to for starting / restarting a business OR is mainland Spain better?
I'm thinking in terms of 'taxes, opportunities for business, support from the government etc'. I've heard negative things when it has come to mainland Spain and operating a business there, compared to running it in the UK. So I am wondering is the Canaries Islands and any island in particular more appealing or just the same as mainland Spain...
I will also look at the 'Digital Nomad Visa' when it is ready. My long term aim is to be a resident in Spain / Canaries. I am from Birmingham UK.
    Many thanks,
    Gary

I am not sure if you are better off. The Canary Islands have special tax rules applied to them. These are troublesome if you are shipping goods. Else for pure digital services, they could be more attractive. Here is an excerpt from the European Union.
"Decision (EU) 2020/1792 of 16 November 2020 authorises the Spanish authorities to apply total exemptions or reductions of the local AIEM tax in respect of a limited list of locally manufactured products specified in the annex to that decision until 31 December 2020. These tax exemptions or reductions may not result in tax differentials of more than 15%. Nevertheless, this fiscal advantage is subject to a limit of EUR 150 million per annum."

@@AskMeStartUp i can form a company in the UK in a coffee break for less than £20. i am in Spain now and there are so many more unnecessary processes, stages, forms and other BS - it drives me mad.

@@six-gun absolutely, even when you accept that the UK is an exception, southern European countries are always very bureaucratic. To my understanding, this has to do with the fact that there is a general lack of regular employment and hence, there are more jobs created by the state. In order to prove that they are essential, they come up with a plethora of documents and tasks other countries would never have.

@@josephbenadam i am in Alicante. i think the better option is to form a branch company in Spain - i inquired with an account and they suggested forming a Spanish company over a branch as there would be low taxes for the first two years. Hmmm - i am happy to forgo those.
