I strongly feel like BotK did what other games were doing, but better. Which is weird we're even asking this question. When BotW came out, everyone was talking about how it was doing open world cliches well. Like towers. So the idea that this conversation is now a question, rather than a fact everyone knows, makes me feel old.
Great video hope it explodes. In earlier Zelda games running around bullcrapping wouldn’t really make you that much stronger yeah you might find rupees or a side quest but there wasn’t anything else. In botw when running around bullcrapping you’ll find weapons cooking items shrines and more side quests. You are being productive.
Love this game a lot, Its cool to see how many other games such as Elden Ring or Genshin Impact adopt a similar style of open world because of breath to the wild.
I think it just added perfect gameplay. But the world expanded even more with more things to do. So, personally I would say it expanded the world a bit. But that's it.
It was revolutionary if you never played a Bethesda game before. From a Skyrim standpoint, BOTK is barely evolutionary. And the towers are a regression.
Botw was my first Zelda game I completed besides the 1985 version. My first play through easy 1000 hours... I would have a plan then see something like oh what's this. I loved it... Still do. I'm always roaming Hyrule

Do you think TOTK added anything to the open world design or just perfected the gameplay?

Botw reminds me a lot of a larger version of the first Risen game. For many reasons
