The Duke of Edinburgh is the image of his grandfather, King George V1. I was astonished at the likeness. I am so old at 86 , to have seen King George close up on a number of occasions including when, during WW2 Their Majesties visited the bomb hit area of London where I lived. I am so glad that the Duke, his grandson is receiving the recognition he deserves along with his lovely wife, the Duchess.🏴🇬🇧

They were visiting many parts of London and the country as a whole to mark their Silver Wedding anniversary. Just one of the less well known events I have been lucky enough to witness.

As has been intimated an invitation is in many respects a thank you . I attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 21 July 1999. I was retiring at the end of a long career in the Civil Service during which I was ,simply by virtue of my Department, in a position to advise and assist a particular section of society. I still have the beautiful invitation card which says " The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by Her Majesty to invite..........". then my name was given in full . It was a most memorable day.🏴🇬🇧
PS you are given very detailed instructions on dress. Ladies must wear day dress and hats, unless in national costume or uniform ( no medals).Trousers must NOT be worn. Gloves are optional. Gentlemen to wear morning dress,lounge suit or uniform . No cameras, no mobile phones and nobody under 18.

I'd probably dance around my house like a crazy woman once I got my official invitation, holding it in my hand while doing so! 💃🏻😂 I always thought those parties looked like such a dream, and not just because the royals were there...but because I'd know that the entire UK monarchy (who also represent the country's & Commonwealth's people of course) was thanking me for something outstanding that I myself had done! 😱 (WOW)! I just love the royal family in the UK and I think they are lovely people who are extremely dedicated to their people, their country, their duty and their love for the Commonwealth! It's just so phenomenal that they always take the time out of their busy, jam-packed schedules to thank those personally who have contributed a lot of good to their country! A huge "thank you" from an admirer (across the ocean) in the USA here!
PS I just LOVE seeing what everyone at these garden parties are wearing, and not just the royals (they always look immaculate, imo)! I love all the hats on the ladies...and love love love the top hats like His Majesty is wearing here! 🎩👒 Everyone looks amazing, and I think if I were there I'd enjoy myself very much in just people-watching! 😉 I can just imagine how all of the ladies there (I'm sure the men too, but it's probably a tad different with the ladies) most likely spent tons of time picking out what they were going to wear, got their hair and nails done, etc...I know I sure would! It would even come down to getting a brand new umbrella if I was invited! Lol ☂️ (must always be prepared, especially in the UK weather; I noticed Queen Camilla had her umbrella with her as well)! Just love all the vibrant colors and fashion looks at these parties! Spectacular! ✨👗👠🌂
