  • @slovokia
    @slovokia 8 років тому +44

    Well I guess the options are: battery + inverter, near field magnetic coupling, far field RF coupling. Option 1 is most probable followed by 3 and then option 2 unless you have made your house a giant primary winding for an air coupled transformer. Options 2 and 3 would also have effects on your protoplasm.

    • @waterlubber
      @waterlubber 8 років тому +24

      +slovokia >effects on your protoplasm
      Literally microwaving yourself

    • @MadPatter66
      @MadPatter66 8 років тому +3

      I'm going to guess option 2. 60 Hz I don't think will denature your protoplasm. I would think that's his style, and he can summon up the Amps, and the Volts. Don't wear metal near it, or even a clicky pen.

    • @slovokia
      @slovokia 8 років тому +1

      +MadPatter66 I don't think an air coupled transformer would transmit enough energy at 60hz - one would probably have to use significantly higher frequency AC to get things to work. I have not done the math myself but I think somewhere in the equations the power coupling is a function of frequency.

    • @foureyedchick

    99% on LiPo, (or LiFePo or Li-Ion).
    So the question is, Inverter? Or a Boost converter?
    The light doesn't care AC or DC obviously. But I don't know that mixer so that motor may be brushed, and also very happy with DC.

      I think that, that universal motor is cappable to run on DC power

    • @JFinne9
      @JFinne9 8 років тому +1

      Yes, if it's a brushed universal motor. Have seen small appliances with brushless A/C motors though, also.

    • @JFinne9
      @JFinne9 8 років тому +2

      Mixer would have a rectifier, not an inverter, if anything. And you can put DC into an AC to DC rectifier, it just won't change anything.
      It would be if the Mixer has a transformer and/or an AC brushless motor that it wouldn't work at all.

    • @JFinne9
      @JFinne9 8 років тому +1

      sailentxx Um... Of course. IF it does have a rectifier, that won't be the only thing in that case....

    • @jackwhite3820
      @jackwhite3820 8 років тому +3

      +willyhoogs
      It's not an induction motor.

    • @therealjammit
      @therealjammit 8 років тому +11

      +muh1h1 Why an inverter? All those objects can run off of DC quite well. 160 "AA" will give you 240 DC and be able to run a few amps for about 30 minutes, and 160 "AAA" should be good for a few minutes. The universal motor will run at full speed with less voltage at DC (may need only 80 "AA" to get 120V), and the incandescent lights might be bright enough to look full bright on a sensitive camera.

  • @Joshua543215
    @Joshua543215 8 років тому +4

    Wow. The source must have a low internal resistant - the density of the light doesn't decrease as he turned the mixer on.
    The source definetly must have alternating current, because of the mixer.
    I would say it have to be something chemical - like a fuel cell but so small with that power?
    Instead of that, it have to be induction current - however.
    Now i notice the huge coils, and the 63A CEE power plug in background! and no noise of them, something strange goes on there.

    • @Humza
      @Humza 8 років тому +5

      +Josh Muhl The mixer's plug can be wired directly to the motor and accept DC. It's very likely a high voltage DC battery, both the universal motor and lamps can run on high enough DC. If I had to guess it would be some LiPo batteries.

    • @Codster
      @Codster 8 років тому +1

      +Josh Muhl The coils are variable AC transformers attached to one of Photon's power supplies for variable output. They allow for monstrous power but most likely not capable of creating an electromagnetic field strong enough to power this box. If that was the case, the field would be so strong his camera probably would not be capable of recording. Definitely a (few) low internal resistance, high discharge batteries with an inverter. These batteries must have a high C rating to have the capability of drawing so many amps (or they're paralleled).

      Microwave power transmission? /s

    • @S.ASmith
      @S.ASmith 8 років тому +1

      +callum barbra depends on the microwave frequency. If it is ~2.4GHz then yes, interference maybe high.
      It would be classed as an ISM device as well, so anything it would interfere with would have to accept the interference. Wifi, mobile phone networks and things like baby monitors are not ISM devices.
      It is also fairly efficient with over 70% of the original energy being transferred from source to rectenna.

      My theory is that the leads are purely for show. The mixer has a battery inside and he's altered the motor to run off that. The bulbs can easily be reconfigured likewise to use batteries lika a magician's prop. The rating printed on that bulb doesn't mean he has not tampered with it.

    • @tncorgi92
      @tncorgi92 8 років тому

      You may notice that the only time you see the "filament" in the bulb glow is at the beginning, when he's standing close to the camera and you can't see the power cord. Then the video cuts and it's a DIFFERENT bulb after that, a super bright LED type that uses battery. He stands far enough away that you cant't tell there is no filament. Clever editing.

      Um you are aware of Wi-Tricity: the brand name for wireless electricity? Also I've never seen Photon do anything sudo-scientific!
      This can be easily accomplished with a powerful tuned transmitter & receiver.

    Good to see you back, fellow Andy. And always enjoy your videos, as you say, those who tinker are the pioneers, I do my own little bit on my own channel in the same thinking! Onto the problem in hand. Lithium-ion battery, small inverter to step the voltage up. So long as the load remains reasonably low.
    amps=watt/volts so with the 150watt at 240v light about 0.62 amps, most inverters should handle that.

    Neat little battery powered power supply, you don't even need an inverter module provided you plug in appliances that will run from 240V DC such as that light bulb and universal motors. As the battery technology and capacity improves, miniature power supplies will be years from now be able to store up to KW hours, with heaps of current. Good for camping trips.

    Probably inductive coupling, since his power supply was on, it's probable that it's powering the primary inductor hidden somewhere in the room (on the floor probably). The cube then contains the secondary inductor along with some electronics to regulate the voltage variation from all that movement. Or... having seen that modern batteries today can hold a significant amount of energy and that electronics such as an inverter circuit can be shrunk to a small size while retaining its power capacity could be the source of that power.
