The infamous "mystery" motor of Nascar. They kept it a secret until its debut, and it dominated until the hemi was approved.

I worked as a automotive painter for over 35 years also worked for dupont as a rep and paint technician my job was to put out fires I would go to all the different shops and dealerships and trouble shoot problems and back in the 80s they had all the G.M. peeler s all cars that had bad paint from the factory and I had guys at dealerships doing warranty work and I would get calls everyday about problems they were having I would tell the painters you have steps to take that need to be done and if they are not right or it won't be covered by the warranty if you have steps 1 through 10 and you need to stick to that not 1 3 5 7 9 I told them once the car is striped it needs to be blown off with clean air and don't touch it with your greesy hands wipe it down with metal prep and have a dry lent free rag and go behind it and dry so you don't leave any ŕèsadew on the car tack it off with a take rag spray a coat of 615 and 616 on it before doing any body work this took the place of the zinc chromate the factory used for many years if there is no body work to be done then you can put the sealer on it if there is body work ðo it put 6¹5 and 616 on any bare metal then prime the body work then you can block out the body work and reprime for final sanding after it is all sanded then you can whipe it down with prepsol or tar wax and greese remover and wipe with dry rag then you can spray your sealer tack that off then paint if you flow those steps your good as far as the warranty goes if you skip any of these steps that's when you have problems like paint blisters peeling if you try piling the paint or clear on that's when you trap solvents in the paint and end up with what they call solvent pops fisheyes are normally caused by touching the car with bare hands the oil in your skin will make mess out of a nice paint job also what you mix the paint and clear in . And absolutely know WD-40 in the paint shop or silicon I've seen WD-40 sprayed 60 to 80 feet away and ruin a paint job because it travels through the air also so dealerships offered a clear coat protection and if it was like Z Bart the whole car will fisheye. If you fallow these steps your job will come out right as long as the painter knows what he's doing. I treated every car like it was going in the world of wheels my boss would tell me all the time this one is not going in the world of wheels I just ignored him because my reputation was on the line and if you left 1 pin hole or chip he would point it out....lol the only thing I haven't painted was a helicopter and painted everything from straight enamel lacquer acrylic enamel base coat clear coat to Imaron to Imaron 5000 besides all types of industrial coating and marine coating. I love paint work I start at my first body shop at 14 years old and when I was 16 I was the youngest painter ever at a dealership in New Orleans Louisiana that was in 1977 I'm 62 years old now.

I would like to see this car get the TLC it deserves as a 55+ year old rare survivor car. Not many of them were made in this first year for the 427. Most of the 427 engines went into Corvettes and the biggest engine you could get in the Chevelle at that time was the 396 due to the GM 400 CID limit on the intermediate cars.

Look at my other videos. We actually just did a 66 corvette with this exact same engine. And these two customers are good friends. This car will be perfect when we are done

If you would wake up a bit before you begin recording your video and stop licking your lips and sucking on your teeth, the video could be about 25 to 30% shorter.
